I would dream of a year like that as well. Kent was brought up above and like it or not they are a pretty good comparison to our program historically. Would you trade this year that WMU had (beat nobody of significance) to go back to what Kent is now? Heck even in Kent's great year they beat a ranked B1G team on the road. Let Bowden finish out his contract, but evaluate, keep options open, and plan for the future in the meantime. We can't afford to buy him out. Save that money for a more high profile coach if needed. Maybe he doesn't turn us into an Ohio, but at the very least he is building a foundation to have at minimum an average MAC program which is valuable considering program history. skip-zip Posted January 13, 2017 Author Report Posted January 13, 2017 Yep, that's pretty lame to me. They might never have another opportunity like this again to reach a little higher on the totem pole. I'm wondering if they are possibly feeling like they can capitalize on the current enthusiasm and build the alum/ex-athlete participation by grabbing a former player? I can't come up with anything else that makes this sound like a good hire. Quote

K92 Posted January 14, 2017 Report Posted January 14, 2017 I don't think Tim's first spiel inspired anyone to want to strap it on and run through a brick wall for him. Watching that makes me want to take a couple of shots of NyQuil and go back to bed. 2 Quote

Balsy Posted January 14, 2017 Report Posted January 14, 2017 Anyone want that one-and-done season again? Kent went from Hazel to Alumni Paul Haynes. WMU went from Fleck to alumni Tim Lester. Anyone else see a pattern here? The good thing for us though is that this hire might make our return visit to WMU this season a winnable game. Quote

You wouldn't want to know what I would give to win the MAC, be ranked, and play in the Cotton Bowl. Coaches come and go. The next football coach to leave Akron for a better job, will be the first. zipsoutsider Posted January 14, 2017 Report Posted January 14, 2017 It would have been a mistake for him to go in and try to replicate the persona that was Fleck. The kids would have seen right through it. Looks more like a Dabo than a PJ. Quote

You can count me in on that too. And ESPN Gameday coming to our campus. And everything else that comes along with that kind of success. I'll take any coach who can bring me that kind of year here in Akron after what I've been through in my lifetime as a Zips fan. I don't give a damn where he goes the following year. Quote
