zipsoutsider
1 penalty for 5 yards, total today. We converted on 2/3 turnovers. I hope Tommy is back. Chapman played well, but against better team, there would have been interceptions. We need a better connection between QB and WRs to compete against WMU. That being said, we won't be the same team without JoJo. But, who knows, maybe we will have Warren Ball back next week. The defense had another chance to improve today. Let's hope they can play well enough to give the offense a chance to win it next week.

skip-zip
Offense: Has gotten the job done the last two weeks without Woodson. We'll need his better efficiency next week, and a guy who will look at multiple option. Our running game from anyone other than Chapman was a major disappointment today. Defense: A much better overall performance. But, those big running plays on 1st downs, with tons of broken tackles, is still bothering me. Blue & Gold
This was our 6th consecutive MAC win; first time in program history. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/university-of-akron-football-backup-quarterback-tra-von-chapman-leads-zips-to-35-13-win-over-miami-redhawks-1.717864
Blue & Gold
TC5's QB rating for the game was 136.26. But, as someone mentioned above (statistics, statistics), against a better defense there would have been a pick or two. We need Tommy back if we hope to try and make it competitive w/ WMU. Dr Z
Anybody else recognize the effort of true freshman Alvin Davis? What a great game. Second on the team in tackles, tied in first with one pass defended. I'm not sure I have seen a smaller guy on an Akron defense make such an impact. That open field tackle he made on the RB when he sent him skyward was awesome. His defended pass was at the goal line on the tight end!?!?

I've been watching him since the VMI game - he wasn't even listed on the roster! He's a baller for sure! Lol. I was still surprised to see him in the starting lineup over either Featherstone (who's also a good one!) or George (who didn't play, if I'm correct?). He played well! skip-zip
Speaking of players that stuck out in different ways yesterday... How about Soph. WR #19 Anthony Lauro? He's from Florida, only 5'-10", and had a couple of catches yesterday. I had never heard anything about him, and he was in there in some key situations. He made one catch in traffic reaching backwards for a dart that was a bad pass and pulled it right in. Pretty impressive. More depth than we even know we have at the WR position, I guess. Blue & Gold
As Balzy noted, announced attendance was 11,094. We should double that for Homecoming on a beautiful fall afternoon. Maybe one day.

He's from Bradenton and was the RB for Manatee HS when they won the mythical high school "national championship" a few years ago. He had a knee injury, so it's great to see him in there now. We might need him even more if JoJo's badly injured Edited October 9, 2016 by Blue & Gold

UA1987
I noticed Pittman did not play. He was on the sidelines, in pads, but did not participate. Anyone have any info on him as we will need him down the stretch (I did not hear the pre-game injury report on the radio)? Hamilton played some D/E with the loss of Marcus and as Pittman was out. Radio guys said he was "held out". What about DeAndre Scott? I don't recall seeing him play, either. I have noticed Davis and Lauro, as well. Coney also made a nice 3rd down grab, if I remember correctly. The Miami run D was more stout than Kent's and after watching the WMU game last night, probably better than WMU, too. Bowden mentioned how tough their Defense was on his post game interview. They have kept their games close and I think that must be largely due to their defense. I thought their young QB played respectably well in his first game. He made the mistakes you would expect him to make. TC5 mentioned chemistry still being an issue but that more reps with the 1st team have helped. A 4-2 start, 2-0 in the conference, 6 straight MAC wins, we continue to move in the right direction. ZachTheZip
Did anybody notice the defense celebrating like crazy after they got a stop towards the end of the game? It's because they were told that if they could get off the field with enough time remaining, Hoyer would get to play at QB.
Buckzip
Injuries are really mounting. Any word on when Ball will be back? Woodson needs to play. TC will not beat WMU.

This is a Division 1 FBS team with a winning record and people in Akron can't show up? It's embarrassing. Because "just winning more games" has never been the answer. I've said it many times. Winning 6 straight MAC games? Winning 9 of our last 11 games? Yes, a big deal to all of us. But to the average D-1A college football fan who watches the national polls? What we are doing makes them yawn and go back to bed on Saturday morning. Still, although I've been around here a long time, and know our history in regards to attendance.......I had still thought that attendance would have been at least a few thousand higher than this. I actually made that prediction, and I was wrong. I guess that illustrates just how bad the apathy about Akron Football has become to most people in this town. Now i see people who would like to see us "play dead" next week against WMU, and save ourselves for future MAC games. Ridiculous. This is the biggest opportunity we've had in a long time to impact those "Joe Akron's", especially if we get a little help from the local media in promoting the fact that a RANKED TEAM is coming to the Info.
kreed5120
I thought the University has done a great job of trying to market the team this year. Cleveland sports fans seem to be slow to jump on bandwagons. Indians led the AL Central for 75% of the season yet finished 28th in attendance. I'd expect an uptick next season though. To really boost announced attendance, we need to boost season ticket sales. I'm not sure what our season ticket base is, but it has to be incredibly small. I'd expect the number of STH to increase each season as long as the team keeps winning. If the goal is to average 15k, we probably need somewhere in the neighborhood of 9k-10k STH with the students, opposing fans, and Joe Akron accounting for the remaining 5k-6k per game. zipsoutsider
Have we ever done a promo with the local high schools where we run an ad featuring the alumni from their school playing the Zips and offer discounted tickets - maybe handed out as a flyer with the programs? Plant the seed - "You had fun watching them here, just think about how much fun to see them at D1 level playing ball."
