ESPN College GameDay at Western Michigan

I can't believe nobody has commented on this.

Yes, I think it could be some sort of breakthrough with the national media paying attention to our conference, and maybe the best form of publicity that the league is ever going to get on a Saturday.

Like I said in another thread, it's comforting to know that a couple of decent OOC wins and an undefeated conference record can get you to this point, both in ranking and publicity.  I hope we can match this feat sometime.

It might not be getting attention right now.  The real value will come when Millions of people turn on their TV's on Saturday morning and see a pregame show on a college campus in Kalamazoo Michigan, with tons of signs touting WMU.  I'd probably want to go camp outside and have a 5-day Tailgate if something like that was going to happen on Saturday on Akron's campus.

I'd like it a lot more if they were they for Toledo vs. WMU. That might be a game worth GameDay but they are probably only there because there aren't any really big games this week. Still happy to see any non power 5 appearance though.

Based off the AP poll since CFP rankings aren't out this week yet, #20 Washington State plays #12 Colorado and #8 Oklahoma plays #10 WVU so there definitely were some other good options. The reason ESPN picked WMU was because every year they like to host 1 non P5 Gameday and they felt going to WMU was the most newsworthy destination. In the past they have gone places like JMU and NDSU. I don't think the uproar would have been so great had WMU played someone like Toledo this week instead of 2-8 Buffalo. Another thing that has made a lot of people upset is that the Big 12 has yet to host a Gameday this year and they clearly have the best pure match up this week.

I think it is good for the MAC based on the fact that Gameday is coming to a MAC school, but its much better in general for PJ Fleck and WMU. Would be better if it were WMU/Toledo. The fact that they are coming for Buffalo is just weird, but I'm not going to complain about it. I think I saw this is the first time Gameday has been at a MAC school since BG in 03(?).

"This will be only the second time GameDay has visited a MAC school, the first in 2003 at Bowling Green. Unranked BG defeated No. 12 Northern Illinois, 34-18, in that game. The common thread between that game and this one is WMU head coach P.J. Fleck caught a touchdown in that game as a wide receiver for NIU."--PD story by EA

“WE WANT THE BROWNS”

Western Michigan is 11-0. The Browns are 0-11. For what that’s worth. Peter King
