Blue & Gold
By the way, if you get the chance, pick up a paper copy of today's ABJ. The Zips recruiting class gets the entire page one (sports) above-the-fold placement, complete with a wicked picture of Jemarulin Suggs. Columbus State gets below-the-fold placement. (I'm showing my age. I doubt anyone presently in college even knows what "above-the-fold" placement means. Lol.)

Alex Ramart (QB) - definite redshirt Jordan Riley (ATH) - love this guy's build & looks like he can jump out of the gym. But we're rather set at DB so he'll likely redshirt. Reggie Corner (S) - same as above. Jeffrey Lubin (CB) - again, will be a good one but will redshirt. Zaire Jacobs (DB) - ditto DeAndre Brimage (DL) - Brim needs a year in the strength program before he sees the field. But that's normal, rarely do guys play as true frosh on the DL (unless you're at Ohio State or Alabama or one of those hyper-elite programs). Eric Bentley (DL) - ditto. GoZips.com lists him @ 6-2, 244. That's why he didn't see more attention during the recruiting process. I saw Bentley play a handful of times & thought he looked bigger than that. I would have pegged him at 265-275. On the field he and Hoban's Jabari Taylor looked like twins to me. Jemarulin Suggs (RB) - Suggs is simply a great RB but I think he gets red shirted. I'm excited to see what Suggs looks like 18 months from now after spending a year in our strength program. Malik Wooldridge (WR) - needs a year to develop more; red shirt. Kobie Booker (TE) - I'm disappointed they list him at TE. I'm afraid he's going to be wasted there. He's built like the Incredible Hulk. I think he could be an absolute terror at DE. But, oh well. Red shirt for Kobie. Dusty Burkhart (WR) - Great straight-line speed. But, like Austin Wolf, no reason to rush him out there. Red shirt. Which leaves who I think has the best shot of who I think answers your question about making the biggest impact the quickest. I'm going with QB Nick Johns. He has a chance to start at Penn State next year. I agree, but wouldn't be surprised to see the kid from St. Thomas Aquinas play next year. Bowden made a pretty big deal about the fact that he is already used to batting the best WR's in the nation Edited February 3, 2017 by zipsoutsider

Blue & Gold
I somehow missed OL Hunter Corne (poor OL always get overlooked. Lol). I think any linemen on the D-1 level are benefitted by a redshirt. Red shirt for Corne. Red shirts are great. Get acclimated to college. Focus on academics. LZIp
Even though it is a small signing day class, I think I feel that this class might be the highest overall quality yet*. With that said, I am not sure I see any outside of Johns not red shirting. i think we are set at a lot of those positions. My guess is that a player that was not announced yet makes the biggest contribution as long as they get through the clearing house, since I see it as a position of weakness. That is either Sampson or Matthew Hanson from FL assuming they qualify. Picking the kid from St. A is not a bad pick either...as we saw what Alvin Davis did as a true freshman. *For everybody who like to contribute nothing but bitching to the board, I do still think there is more improvement needed. I agree with you that this is Bowden's best class. I had a minor meltdown in 2015 about that class. Would you like to discuss that class now? I would love to. Though to be honest I don't recall a lot of them....Off of the top of my head....Featherstone and Davis came in right away and played good. I think Jest should be added to that as well. Playing a DL as a true freshman is a tall task and he has some upside. I rank him as our 3rd best DL last season outside of Marcus and Boxen. Hopefully he has hit the weight room. DeMarkus Glover's film reminded me of Jatavis Brown's a lot as I said in a previous thread. I think he was a non qualifer last year. Believe we brought in a few O lineman to help replace all 5 starters after the Potato Bowl, and Kato seemed like the "crown jewel" of the class, but we obviously did not see him as coach said yesterday he did not want to burn the redshirt at the end of the season. LZip, you're referring to last year's class, which was 2016. Keener's talking about the 2015 class. I don't remember who was in that class, do you? I should write that stuff down. Edit: And... Keener beat me to it. Thanks, K92! Edited February 3, 2017 by Blue & Gold

I agree...outside of Boxen and Gilbert....and I guess Edwards if you want to include him in that group, we are not getting anything out of that class AT ALL. Monroe was a good 5th year senior. Bryce did okay...but another 1 year guy. Ray Ray was supposed to be pretty solid, but I don't think he ever qualified. Odd that we included him then, but left out a few guys this year who may not be qualifiers. I agree that that class overall was quite bad. Maybe partially explains why this year's class only included 13 high schoolers but will have 29 newcomers per Coach Bowden. Need to supplement one way or another. kreed5120
Bump it so we can all see. People always want to rush out and give immediate gradez. Nice to look at a class 2-3 years later to see how it really stacks up.

Tiger for Life 88
Hunter Corne will move inside to Center or Guard according to OL coach. He would have played either in HS but had no one else to play left tackle. His dad is also the Defensive Coordinator at the school. He had 35 tackles,14 TFL, 2 sacks 2 FF as a senior. Benches 330, cleans 280, squats 475. Works with retired strength Coach from UF and Stanford. Coach has a performance complex in ocala fl and trains guys like a college strength program. He is also on Track Team and Weightlifting Team. Probaly will redshirt due to change of his position. He has high football IQ.

I don't recall the infamous Blake Dennis being listed lol. I do agree that that is another bad list (even though some of those guys are also included in Keener's 2015 listing). I also think we can all agree that its hard to track this stuff or classify what class certain players are in due to the many blue/grey shirts and transfers. It seems there was a decent class in 2013 (MTB, Woody, Lane..maybe others I can't think of?) and then I like the quality of this class as well as 2015s., but a drop off in high school players in between.
