Jerome Lane

Another tweet that sort of sours me towards Lane. Scouts evaluate everything. Can't imagine immaturity is an attractive trait.

I saw these tweets last night and they really bothered me for a couple of reasons. First, I don't think it's cool to take the moment where everyone is focused on Jason Taylor and try to make it all about Jerome. I wasn't around when Jason Taylor was a big deal, but a Hall of Fame spot only get's offered to you once. I am sure Jason didn't notice, but it was a low class move by Hammond, IMHO, and Jerome only made it worse. I get that Hammond is an ambitious guy who thinks he can make a name for himself with Jerome Lane, but he has to try to show some class.

Second, let's wait and see how you perform at the combine, Jerome. The NFL scouts made the mistake of overlooking Jatavis Brown. That might have something to do with why he is getting a shot at the combine. If the Zips were to promote Jerome's attendance, it would make more sense after the combine results are in. However, I am not sure promoting a player who leaves early is exactly the trend the program wants to follow. I don't begrudge him leaving early, but I am not sure it is fair for him to expect to be promoted, especially with the negative garbage he posts on social media.

I took a look back last season and I could not find the Zips football account promoting Jatavis at all until he was actually drafted FWIW. Implying Coach Bowden doesn't care about his players seems pretty disingenuous when I look back and read tweets like this:

So that's what Phil Savage is doing these days. Good to see Terry lobby for his guys.

Phil Savage has been the Executive Director of the Senior Bowl since 2012. He also does color commentary for the Crimson Tide. He often appears on NFL Radio especially around draft time. If you get a chance to listen to him, you will be amazed how knowledgable he still is. He is one of my favorite guests.

I'm impressed.

It's not saying much, but out of the many Browns GMs that they have had since '99, he was probably the best.

Some are comparing Jerome Lane to WR Kevin White of the Chicago Bears

White was drafted in the first round ----- #7 overall pick in 2015

I can see it. I just watched both senior highlight tapes and I think White is quicker/faster, high points the ball better, and catches cleaner though. Also worth noting White has been a complete bust so far, although he has  mostly been injured.

I think my concern is that nobody reputable seems to be talking about Lane at all. Though I would say him being invited to the combine is a good sign.

Not to hijack the Jerome Lane thread, but this explains a lot about Pittman's lackluster year:

Pittman is still waiting.

This past season was supposed to be his for the taking. But a deep bruise in his heel forced him to play hurt most of the season. He was limited and not as explosive from his defensive end position...

Nothing more timely than revealing an injury for the first time....3 months after the season's end.

Anyone catch Lane's official measurements?

Here. 6'3" 220 lbs He's #28

I guess it is not a big deal that Lane declared early, since he apparently never even played for the Zips.

Movie: Major League (1989)

Jake Taylor: I play for the Indians.
Chaire Holloway: Here in Cleveland? I didn't know they still had a team!
Jake Taylor: Yup, we've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!
