I usually overlook the specialists as my understanding is whoever wins the jobs are the ones who get the scholarships. Unsure who they'd be at this point. Ohh, I get it, yes. The punter and kicker will get a scholarship, whoever they are. Quote
catdaddyp Posted February 21, 2023 Author Report Posted February 21, 2023 New DL coach Nyeem Wartman issued an offer to JUCO DE Rodney Green. 1 Quote
catdaddyp Posted February 21, 2023 Author Report Posted February 21, 2023 New offer out to JUCO DT Bryce Dunnuck. A little surprising seeing as we already have 7 DTs on the roster. I wonder if the staff expects a current DT to hit the portal or if we see more of a 3-4 alignment this year? Or maybe I’m reading too much into it and Wartman just wants to land one of the guys he targeted. 1 Quote
catdaddyp Posted February 22, 2023 Author Report Posted February 22, 2023 Another offer out to a JUCO DT. Jaden Hamilton. 6’5” 310 and carries the weight well. Quote
catdaddyp Posted February 23, 2023 Author Report Posted February 23, 2023 Fresh offer out to JUCO DE Kabbash Richards. Michigan native that played at Eastern Kentucky for a few years before landing at JUCO. Richards started 9 games at EKU his sophomore year. From an athletic and potential standpoint I like this offer. Richards can play with his hand on the ground or as a standup edge. He runs really well for a guy his size. 1 Quote
catdaddyp Posted February 23, 2023 Author Report Posted February 23, 2023 Offer to JUCO DE Antonio Smith. 2 years of eligibility remaining. He’s not as impressive as Kabbash Richards, but would still be a solid addition. Especially considering our lack of bodies at the position. Quote
72 Roo Posted February 23, 2023 Report Posted February 23, 2023 Catdaddy, it seems to me that we are recruiting DL players who are long on potential, but short on actual performance. Hence the lack of significant D1 offers from other schools. What are your thoughts? Quote

The better high school players have already signed (minus a handful that don’t involve us) and most of the portal options aren’t great. That leaves us with JUCO and whoever enters the portal in the next window (after spring practice). The latest JUCO offers have gone out to guys that will be able to enroll in May. My guess is there were some eligibility issues before now and they will probably receive more offers since they have been cleared. We landed some high quality players in the April/May timeframe last year and I expect the same will happen this year. That being said, I still don’t like DE being so light on depth but Wartman is trying to address it. Quote

Based on the other schools that have offered every JUCO mentioned on this page, the staff must have doubts about their ability to sign anyone who can significantly improve the Zip's roster during the next portal session. And the greater the number of these JUCOs that sign with the Zips the lower the odds that we will have spots available for portal transfers that might be able to assist in the effort to win more than our standard two wins or less per season. 1 Quote
catdaddyp Posted February 26, 2023 Author Report Posted February 26, 2023 New offer to JUCO WR Shemar Kirk. Purdue came in with an offer shortly after. Kirk looks explosive on film and reminds me of Daniel George. 1 Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 2, 2023 Author Report Posted March 2, 2023 Offer out to German native Keon Rohe. Offensive tackle. Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 5, 2023 Author Report Posted March 5, 2023 JUCO DE Antonio Smith will visit next month. Quote

catdaddyp Posted March 5, 2023 Author Report Posted March 5, 2023 Antonio Smith Hudl Film. As things stand, I’d say we have a good chance at landing Smith. 2 Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 9, 2023 Author Report Posted March 9, 2023 Offer out to JUCO DE Timothy Brown. He was JUCO teammates with Amin Mimouni. Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 11, 2023 Author Report Posted March 11, 2023 Offer out to JUCO LB Raymond Collins. I can’t see us landing Collins if Ole Miss really wants him, but always worth throwing an offer out there. Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 21, 2023 Author Report Posted March 21, 2023 Looks like we are still looking for immediate help along the OL. New offer out to JUCO IOL Que McBroom. Honestly, I’m surprised it took us this long to offer. He’s a guy I’ve been watching for a while now. 3 years to play 3. HUDL FILM 2 Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 27, 2023 Author Report Posted March 27, 2023 JUCO DE Rodney Green is one of many coming in for visits during spring ball, but I wanted to point him out because he’s been offered and DE is a position of need. We are seemingly his best option, so a commitment may not be far behind. Visit is scheduled for 4/6. HUDL FILM Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 29, 2023 Author Report Posted March 29, 2023 New offer out to JUCO DL Alex Navarro. Not sure what happened, but he signed with Portland State and is still listed on their 2023 roster. Rivals lists him as a DE and he would probably be a great fit for a DE in the 3-4, but more than likely would be moved to DT for us. Quote
catdaddyp Posted March 29, 2023 Author Report Posted March 29, 2023 Navarro’s teammate LB Gage Summers was also offered. Summers is a tackling machine. Take a look at his hudl film. Shades of Bubba. Quote

catdaddyp Posted March 29, 2023 Author Report Posted March 29, 2023 Just now, Blue & Gold said: Previously with the Arizona Wildcats? Yep. Sounds like that was sandwiched between JUCO stops. 1 Quote
catdaddyp Posted April 5, 2023 Author Report Posted April 5, 2023 (edited) I know we are the current leader for Gage. If things go well, we should land both. Edited April 5, 2023 by catdaddyp 2 Quote
catdaddyp Posted April 7, 2023 Author Report Posted April 7, 2023 (edited) New offer out to JUCO CB Marion Ponds. That’s the first 2023 CB offer we’ve issued in a while. Guessing we see some more offers go out as that probably means someone from the CB group will be hitting the portal. Edited April 7, 2023 by catdaddyp 1 Quote
