Indiana is probably the most interesting outcome in college football in my life. It's one thing for a team to upset another like App State did to Michigan. It's something entirely different for this kind of turnaround to result in such high level success.

Am I the only one getting a little disgusted with what seems like every game having a post game dust-up? I attribute this jackassery to NIL and there being little consequences for bad behavior because you can always transfer somewhere else. 

 

If they want to be professionals, treat them like professionals. Want to embarrass the NFL/college football Mr. Player? Want to run your mouth to the point someone takes a swing at you? Here is a hefty fine. Players don't misbehave like this in the NFL because they will forfeit lots of money in terms of fines and game checks. 

 

Unionized college athletics now like the NFL and they can begin to get these clowns under control. If players want to appeal, they can have their union do it for them.

My son gets an athletic digest. In it, it said about Indiana - "A program that had been the worst in Power 4 history and the losingest in FBS history just won the national title two years after getting dragged into quadruple overtime by 2-10 Akron,"

IU had some good teams in the late 80s with star RB Anthony Thompson, beating Tosu once or twice in that era.

Jason Taylor seems to have done a nice job with Miami's front 4.  I was checking out his HOF profile on the UA site, it is pretty much blank.  Is it me or does he dissociate himself from Akron.

You would think they would do everything possible to try to include him? Maybe he wants nothing to do with the school? Maybe somebody pissed him off? If I were JoeMo I’d be begging him to have some presence with the football team. He’s an NFL hall of famer!

Honestly, no thanks. I would rather have a statue of Charlie Frye or someone different. Like others said he doesn't seem to care about Akron athletics and isn't even the first person I think of when I think Akron football.

Maxx Crosby is at the top of his career at the moment and still makes time for EMU. People find time for the things that matter to them. He doesn't even give Akron a shout out on social media or anything. Even LeBron does that 1-2 times a year and he didn't even go to the school.

 

I'm not saying this to specifically lash out at him. He's free to live his life as he wishes. He just doesn't seem all that invested in Akron football, which is okay, his choice.

Dwight Smith had a Super Bowl interception TD, Chase Blackburn has 2 Super Bowls, and Domenik Hixon has 2 Super Bowls and was a major reason why Fryer and Getsy had great stats. Hixon should honestly get the statue. I was in college during his years, even cheered a football season when Frye and Hixon played together. Hixon was a beast. Statue worthy for sure.

I don't really think so because in reality Akron doesn't compete with the Hurricanes for players or prestige. If we were a middling program in the B1G then sure.

 

Even if that was the case he just took that job relatively recently (2022). It doesn't really explain the lack of involvement for the decades leading up to it.

He actually had TWO pick sixes in that Super Bowl. The only reason he didn't win MVP was because they stupidly voted for MVP before the game was over a which was before he ran back his second TD! And the "MVP" was another defensive back! Still pissed! 😁

He has been to many football alumni events, participated in a ceremony honoring him at a game and spring practices over the years. That's more than a couple of half ass social media posts.

If he's involved behind the scenes that's great. I hadn't seen or heard of involvement outside of that brief time around the time he was inducted. In that case perhaps its a relationship the University can better foster.

I was referring to the general public. You said he attended football alumni events so I took it those were closed off events restricted to former players and coaches. Not the kind of stuff you see general press releases about or the ABJ cover.
