catdaddyp Posted December 17, 2023 Report Posted December 17, 2023 Excellent article. About the only thing he’s missing is the Title IX lawsuit that was filed in Oregon a few weeks ago. That could drastically change the landscape as well. Quote
GP1 Posted December 17, 2023 Report Posted December 17, 2023 Interesting article. Misses the point of what really needs done. Football is special and driving revenues for schools. There needs to be one division with one commissioner for P5 schools only. The money will pour in. So much money, G5 schools could get one $4.4 million dollar payday instead of three beat downs to get the same amount. $4.4 million would be a drop in the bucket for the big schools. The G5 schools could then go about rationally organizing themselves into a highly competitive and entertaining division for athletes students alumni fans and general communities around the schools and country. Hilltopper Posted December 18, 2023 Report Posted December 18, 2023 I would bet it might look more like professional soccer. P5 and P5 lite. The lesser P5 teams would serve as cannon fodder for the upper P5 programs. Maybe some sort of relagation system for the P5 lite programs to move up and down if they perform well enough. That way the big guys keep all the money. The G5 will become glorified FCS. Quote

kreed5120 Posted December 21, 2023 Report Posted December 21, 2023 Some proposals I've seen reported have had schools allowed to pay up to $30k per scholarship athlete. If you have 200 scholarship athletes, that's $6 million. I know we're all sport fans here, but the NCAA keeps making it more and more expensive to participate. I think it's pretty clear at some point the MAC as a whole will have no choice but to say enough is enough and step down. Quote

Or, they could join the other G5 conferences, set up a football division with one commissioner and leverage their numbers against TV networks and P5 conferences. Quote
