Tracking Outgoing Transfers

Recommended Posts

Special teams took some hits. Perez is a solid kicker and the snapper hit the portal, too. They’re left with great players in Wiley, Castle and Jackson, but the chemistry between them may be thrown a bit. Did we sign a new punter, even though we have Jackson and Castle?

I’ve read the same. It appears he had several visits with them early on his HS timeline. He was a star in Oklahoma and first team all state with impressive numbers through out his career so makes sense if so. Wish it had worked out here, but best of luck to him. Still a fan of Wasel.

Steele Wasel transferring to Oklahoma U as a walk-on after not getting any playing time with us. Anyone else have that on their bingo card?

He’ll probably start out 3rd on the depth chart there too, behind another 2024 Ohio native QB we offered - Brendan Zurbrugg.

I don't have a clue as to everything that went into his decision to hit the portal, but I'll offer this. If he was going to sit behind other QB's he might as well go to Oklahoma and sit in a place that is close to home. He loses a scholarship but maybe he's happier being close to home while having the chance to win a scholly if he does well. Akron is a long way from home just to sit on the bench.

people rarely factor in how difficult it is for some players to be away from home or even out of state.  When lifting starts in June local guys can still make it home to see friends and family.

A few updates:
DT Kyle Thomas transferred to Valdosta State.
OL Kilbane did not make it in to UMASS. Apparently some course credits were not accepted.

Please refresh my memory. Wasn't Kyle Thomas a starter last year?

No, he was a backup and was one of the 4 (?) defenders that decided to preserve their eligibility and hit the portal 4 games in. Thomas did start 4 games in the middle of the 2022 season and played well. Once Holt was fully healthy, it knocked Thomas into a backup role. This past season, Jones and Lavea locked down the starting roles. On the bright side, Thomas hitting the portal allowed Moore to have an opportunity.

Posted (edited)

Ka’Marrii Landers recruitment has heated up lately. Offers from Arkansas and South Carolina in the past few days. Hope he does well, but frustrating as he would have likely been a 4 year starter at LT for us.

I actually heard from a pretty reliable source that CJ Price is transferring from Jackson State to San Diego State. I'm not sure on the exact timeframe, but what ever it is, I'm guessing he won't be playing in any games for Jackson State this year. Curious how this is going to work out.

I always get a kick out reading Catdaddyp's review of how much playing time former Zips get with their new clubs. After reviewing all the transferred players I've come to the conclusion we didn't lose as much as what we gained thru the portal. Still I wish we could have held on to a few, especially RT Nate Williams. He would have improved our weak OL. I can't help but wonder how good our DB's would have been if Tyson Durant and Corey Thomas had stayed. We picked up good replacements, but depth is a luxury we need against this schedule.

Overall, the talent is improving under JoMo and I believe that will continue if Jo hangs in there. Still, I hate losing good ones, but I can't blame them for wanting to play for winning programs and possibly have the chance to get NIL dollars, which I hate.
