TennZip Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 Standings after October 24 games Creighton 3-0-3 12 points Akron and Xavier 2-1-3 both have 9 points Marquette 2-4-0 6 points Butler and DePaul. 1-2-2 both have 5 points remaining schedule for Creighton, Akron and Xavier Friday October 30 Creighton at 6-0 Georgetown If Creighton wins or gets a tie, they will almost assuredly win the Midwest Saturday October 31 1 pm Akron at Villanova 0-5-1 6:30 pm U Conn 3-2-0 at Xavier UConn has a league game on O 27 Friday November 6 all games start at same time Akron at 2-4-0 Marquette DePaul 1-2-2 at Creighton Xavier at 1-2-2 Butler and to answer an obvious question, I do not know the tiebreakers if Akron, Xavier and Creighton finish tied at 15 points I also do not know tiebreaker if Creighton and Akron finish in 2 way tie at 15 obviously, Akron needs to win 2 road games Akron fans want to root for a Georgetown win against Creighton Quote
TennZip Posted October 25 Author Report Posted October 25 I think that the zips would win the Midwest if Xavier, Akron and Creighton all finish with 15 points tiebreaker Mini-conference head-to-head records among the tied teams (best record gains advantage, worst seeded lowest). If split, reverts to 2-team rules. From my perspective, the zips would be 1-0-1 vs C and X Creighton would be 0-0-2 Xavier would be 0-1-1 Quote

From my perspective, the zips would be 1-0-1 vs C and X Creighton would be 0-0-2 Xavier would be 0-1-1 Based on two-way tiebreaker that I saw on Google AI (could be incorrect), the first tiebreaker for a two-way tie would be 1. head-to-head (we beat Xavier and drew with Creighton). 2. Record against highest teams in standings. **if** Creighton loses to Georgetown, both would have lost to the top team (Xavier did not play them) so then it goes down the standings until there's a common opponent where one team has a better record. (I haven't looked at all scenarios because the rest of the seeds are TBD) 1 Quote

As @Zips1991 said in another topic, the zips are at more risk of not making the Big East tournament than they are of not making the NCAA tournament. if the zips win their last 2 road games, the zips will make the NCAA tournament and be seeded in the top 16. as far as the Big east tournament, the zips can only get to 15 points Georgetown is the only team certain to get in right now as they have 18 points and still have 2 games left to play. Creighton will win the Midwest division with 18 points if they beat Georgetown and DePaul in their last 2 games. Is it likely that Creighton beats Georgetown? Probably not. But they can still win the Midwest with a tie against Georgetown and a win over DePaul. UConn could finish with 18 points with wins in their last 3 games. Their last 2 games are against Xavier and Georgetown so they have a challenging path to finish with 18 points. As I mentioned in another topic yesterday, Seton Hall has the easiest schedule and they could finish with 17 points. Bottom line, I think that the Zips are in good shape to make Big East tournament if they win their last 2. however, if Georgetown loses their last 2(super unlikely), things could get complicated. 3 1 Quote

Great analysis. I don't have the RPI math but I assume Akron would make the NCAA Tournament even with 2 losses to close the season. However, anything short of two wins would likely leave them out of the Big East tournament. However, my prediction is the Zips win the Midwest division. The Creighton-Georgetown match is in DC and as @TennZip laid out, the three-way tiebreaker favors Akron right now. 1 Quote

Tuesday night results.......are helping the Zips chances of making the Big East tournament.... St. John's was 1-2-2 before tonight....they played 3-2-0 UConn St. John's wins 3-2........so St. John's is now 2--2-2 (8 points)... UConn is now 3-3-0 (has 9 points after 6 games) UConn's last 2 games are against Xavier and Georgetown....so they are not likely to reach the Big East tournament. Seton Hall was 2-1-2 before tonight...with games remaining against DePaul, Providence and Villanova at 73 minutes, 1-2-2 DePaul....is beating Seton Hall 3-1......so it is likely that Seton Hall is not going to take advantage of their weak schedule. 1 Quote
Zips1991 Posted Wednesday at 01:26 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:26 PM Here's the seeding as of this morning. The two teams in bold text have played one fewer conference match due to postponements earlier this season. I did not look into tiebreakers for the order of any teams on the same number of points (other than Akron over Xavier since I knew that one 😉) 1 Quote

Zips1991 Posted Wednesday at 02:31 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:31 PM (edited) Also, an important note for context on the standings I posted above...Xavier and UConn play each other on Saturday, so that should help Akron assuming the Zips take care of business against Villanova. And Creighton plays Georgetown (on Friday). So, Akron could be tied for the division lead by the end of Saturday. Edited Wednesday at 02:32 PM by Zips1991 3 Quote
TennZip Posted Friday at 11:34 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 11:34 PM Georgetown is an amazing offensive juggernaut Creighton scored in the first 4 minutes Georgetown has responded with 4 goals in the next 16 minutes Matthew Van Horne and Mitchell Baker each have 11 goals for the year GT leads 4-1 after 19:58 Quote
TennZip Posted Saturday at 01:18 AM Author Report Posted Saturday at 01:18 AM Zips now control their own destiny in the midwest division. With a win at Villanova tomorrow afternoon, they can reach 12 points after 7 games. Creighton now has 12 points after 7 games.... Georgetown defeated Creighton tonight 5-3. Congratulations to Big East regular season champion Georgetown. Georgetown is now 7-0-0 after 7 games of the Big East regular season. 1 Quote
Zips1991 Posted Saturday at 01:54 AM Report Posted Saturday at 01:54 AM (edited) When searching Google for Big East men's soccer tiebreakers, I came across this cool page on the Big East website. You can enter different results and it will show you the seeding and tell you who wins tiebreakers. https://www.bigeast.com/sports/2026/10/8/MSOC_1008263346.aspx According to this, Creighton would win a head-to-head tiebreaker over Akron due to better record against common conference opponents. However, Akron would win the tiebreaker in a three-way tie with Creighton and Xavier. Tiebreakers are explained at the bottom of the page for those who want to read through them. To me, it seems we either want Creighton to draw or lose next weekend...or have Xavier win both of their matches so it ends in a three-way tie, for which Akron would win the tiebreaker. But Akron does control it's own destiny in terms of finishing in the top 4 and making the Big East tournament. 1 Quote
MDZip Posted Saturday at 03:11 PM Report Posted Saturday at 03:11 PM (edited) If Akron and Xavier both win their final two matches, it is irrelevant what Creighton does in their final match, Akron wins the Midwest. If Akron and Creighton tie without Xavier (either higher or lower, Akron cannot win the Midwest). If Marquette or DePaul sneak in and tie at 12 points as well I don't want to think about it 😂. The really crazy thing is DePaul could still win the division outright. They would have to beat Butler and Creighton and hope that neither Akron nor Xavier gets more than a win and a tie in their last two games. Ties for seeding will be broken as follows: If two teams are tied: 1. Regular season head-to-head results. 2. Total points against all common opponents (the common opponent pool). 3. Record against the top team in the common opponent pool continuing down until the tie is broken. 4. Goal differential against all teams in the common opponent pool. 5. Team with highest RPI (based on the latest RPI released by the NCAA). If three or more teams are tied, they are viewed as a "mini conference" when comparing results. A. The team or teams with the most points versus the other teams in the mini conference gains the advantage. Edited Saturday at 03:13 PM by MDZip Quote

Based on the two-way tiebreaker order listed above, between Akron and Creighton, the first one is a tie since they drew. Looking at the common opponents (2nd two-way tiebreaker) for Akron and Creighton, there are six of common opponents (5 completed matches and 1 remaining). Results are below. Creighton: Providence...Win Marquette...Win Xavier...Draw Butler...Win Georgetown...Loss Depaul (next week) TOTAL: 10 points Akron: Providence...Draw Xavier...Win Butler...Draw Georgetown...Loss Depaul...Win Marquette (next week) TOTAL: 8 points So, if both were to win their last match, Creighton would have the tiebreaker, 13 points to 11 points. By that match, Akron needs a three-way tiebreaker to win the division. Quote

TennZip Posted yesterday at 01:01 AM Author Report Posted yesterday at 01:01 AM (edited) UConn dominated Xavier 2-1 UConn is now 4-3 and has 12 points their last game is against Georgetown Xavier now has 9 points Marquette won tonight 2–1 over St. John’s Marquette is 3-4 and has 9 points Butler just defeated DePaul 3-1 that result leaves both teams with 8 points…DePaul can’t catch Creighton or Akron Butler has 2 league games left on their schedule Butler is 2-2-2 and has games remaining against Providence and Xavier. Zips1991 Posted yesterday at 01:23 AM Report Posted yesterday at 01:23 AM (edited) Rounding off the results from @TennZip, Seton Hall beat Providence to move to 11 pts. Current standings are below: Tonight's results from around the conference did not help the Zips' chances of winning the division or making the Big East tournament...In short: To win the division, Akron needs to win and have Creighton draw or lose (unless Akron and Creighton both lose, and Xavier wins OR if Akron draws and Creighton losses) If Akron wins over Marquette, we're into the Big East tournament. We could make it with a draw depending on other results. (there's way too many scenarios to go through) I also just want to note for the fun of it, Butler can still win the Midwest division, and be the only team from the division to make the Big East tournament, with one specific scenario (Butler win, Xavier/Akron/Creighton losses). Basically, almost everything is still up in the air. 😅 (Akron is going to the NCAA tournament regardless) Edited yesterday at 01:27 AM by Zips1991 Quote
MDZip Posted yesterday at 01:26 AM Report Posted yesterday at 01:26 AM (edited) With the way the results fell today, Zips need a win against Marquette. A loss would almost certainly knock the Zips out of the Big East tournament and even a tie would put them on shaky ground. Also if Akron, Creighton and UConn all win all three make the tournament, but Akron would be the 4th seed and play Georgetown in the opening round. Edited yesterday at 01:33 AM by MDZip 1 Quote

Although, I do think it's unlikely that UConn beats Georgetown on Friday. I've found one scenario where Akron can make it with a loss, which is: Seton Hall loss or draw AND UConn loss. A draw opens up so many scenarios that I'm not gonna go through them tonight. 😆 A Seton Hall loss or draw tonight would've been very helpful, as it would've meant that Akron only needed a draw in the last match to qualify.
