ZippyDoo Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago the same article, they wanted to avoid ohio's kick returner? the one they had been controlling all night long? giving the ball at pretty much midfield worked out great... that thinking shows little confidence in your special teams... that same article he once again makes the excuse " that this is what happens when you lose 12 of your 16 starters" as mike ditka would say, come on man... do better than that. every division 1 team lost starters. we are 9 games in now... haven't beaten an Fbs team and the talent IS NOT why you are 1-7. to me this sounds more like joe saying hey it's not my fault, my guys just aren't good enough. shame on him... no responsibility. bunch of excuses. shame on him for ever giving the impression that the talent level isn't good enough because they lost starters... 4 Quote
exit322 Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Looking at the stats (because I wanted to see how ridiculous the attendance count was - an announced 5479 isn't absurd, so...): It felt like they ran with the backs more than they actually did. But CB had 34 throws (Roggow 1), 17 runs (3 sacks, so 20 carries)...and Gant+Patrick only had 21 carries. That also probably wasn't ideal, given they were both well over 6.5 ypc Sure did feel like they used the RBs more, though. Guess Gant was just that exciting when he had it... Quote
ZippyDoo Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago I was shocked also watching it back and saw how few times Gant carried and how many yards he had. Watching I would have thought he had close to 200 yards ! He seemed unstoppable. I will tell you that I had "that guy" sitting behind me with his female companion that apparently she did not know anything about football so every play he was going in depth about it. Every time CB would run he was making comments about how he was soft and was afraid to take a hit and judgmental things like that. I wanted so desperately to say something but for once I did not. Personally I was glad to see his choices and going out of bounds. Quote

Given his athleticism and size, this is exactly how he has to do it (because it's an integral part of his game, can't just "stay in the pocket" and expect effectiveness). This will allow him to stay much healthier. I also think due to his size and the relative lack of playing time, we'll have CB another year if he wants to be here. IIRC he's got a couple years left so teams may want him to show a bit more tape. Only thing...when sliding, let's try to avoid bouncing our head off the turf. Edited 10 hours ago by exit322 Quote

He could potentially make more money, if that's his main prerogative, being a backup elsewhere. He could choose to stay and start to further build his marketability. Joe and his staff could be fired which could lead to him wanting to leave. He could ball out these last few games and get interest from a G6 with deeper pockets. Edited 9 hours ago by kreed5120 Quote
ZippyDoo Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago For sure. The report I got on Beals is that he has a CANON for an arm and can make every throw on the field, he doesn't scramble like CB does. Who knows, new staff could want to bring in their own guys, but CB doesn't bother me at all. No offense to Roggow. It was said on here many times that the losses were not his fault and I agree. CB is just different and I like their odds better with him. They do call different style games based off the qb too which makes sense of course. It was nice to see CB letting it rip deep a few times. He does have a tendency to gamble and throw across his body and throw into way too tight of coverage, but he is young and if you want a gunslinger at qb there are going to be times when you love em and times when you hate em... 2 Quote

Given he missed five games with an injury from running too hard, in the first game back I'm not going to get too hard on him for that. But yes, the extra yard a few times would help. Quote

Well it's not like I've got a 100% accuracy record here. 1 Quote
