For anyone who is interested, I dug up the design drawings on the new stadium. I didn't get through all of them, but I guess I'm just a little disappointed with what I saw. There are going to be a TON of bathrooms.....probably too many. All of that stuff about being the most fan friendly Stadium just means we'll have one crapper per person. I hope that underneath the stands, it looks nice, like Ford Field, and not like Cleveland Browns Stadium. I don't think that will be the case though. It looks like it won't have many frills. One thing that I did like, that is smart, is how on the visitors side, they will have banners that will enclose the backside of the stands, making it look a lot nicer. Enjoy!http://www3.uakron.edu/bids/conbidresults.htm

It seems like they keep changing the camera angles. It would be nice if they kept one centered on the hole. But it's cool to be able to watch the equipment running around and good to see a crane on site. And what's with the cross on top of the field house -- are we a parochial school now?

Not sure what you mean with the banners on the backside of the stands, but to the best of my knowledge, as of the last board of trustees meeting, it was decided to enclose the east stands with brick and glass as the current drawings dictate.

Thanks Zipsrifle! But those plans look like what I was expecting - concessions stands and bathrooms in the concourses. What else were you expecting/hoping would be down there?

I was hoping that there would be a store right there that you could walk into and buy zips gear, not just a counter. It looks like the counters where the food will be served are rather small and it looks like there are only 2. Have one that serves hotdogs and burgers, another that serves maybe pizza and tacos, yet another that serves maybe subs and gyros, etc. I guess I imagned maybe an area where people might sit down near the food in the hour or so before the game. I really was impressed with Ford Field, and I was hoping that it would look something like that. CBS and Jacobs Field aren't quite as inviting as Ford field. As for enclosing the visitors stands in brick,

Zipsrifle -The team shop will be at street level at the southwest entrance to the stadium. There will be a concourse level entrance for fans already in the stadium on event days. All other days the entrnce is from the exterior doors to the street. See the southwest view of the stadium at the UA Stadium site. The team store is directly to the right of the ticket office.

Concrete walls are going up on the visitors side, the ground is level under the home stands and you can see the slope down to the field on the home side is looking good. I see some concrete pilings on the home side are in place as well. Not just pushing dirt around anymore! I need to get to campus and take a look for myself!

Seems to me that they are preparing to tear down the houses across Nash Street. They have been ripping out the trees which means they are getting ready to bring in the heavy equipment! :wall: The hole is right up to the edge of the street now and they'll probably want the street to haul away the remains after they rip the house down. I would guess that tomorrow or early next week we'll see some the houses come down and the street starting to be torn up! Of course, I don't know the first thing about tearing down houses or building a stadium so take it for what it's worth. Also, the forms are coming off the concrete on the back of the visitors stands. So, what properties does UA still need to acquire in the construction area? I believe they own all the land they will need for the stadium building, but not ALL of the land for the entire complex. I'm hoping to see some more destruction here soon. :chair:

I'm pretty sure that everything has been settled except for the Nemers' properties. The stadium footprint is all acquired; all that's left is the land for the dorms/shops on the corner of Exchange and Spicer.
That's all that's left. UOfA owns everything else less Nemers properties. Joe's court date is in May and Manny court date is in June. The jury trial will decide how much compensation they're entitled too. They're in for shock as historical eminent domain cases rarely award more then what was being offered. Most of the time less as the offers far exceed property and business values for eminent domain.

They own all the land you see in the stadium cams. The only properties left to aquire are the Nemers properties on Exchange and Spicer. The buildings they're about to tear down have to be prepped before they can tear them down. They're having to remove asbestos from those houses which has delayed them being torn down. That's why the one house is boarded up on the front porch and you see that white semi-trailer in the driveway.

That makes sense. Lots of asbestos used in those days. How long does it take to clear one house? I can't wait to see some actual steel rising on the site!
Depends on how much they find. You have to be very, very careful removing asbestos and it can be a very slow process. The first semi-trailer sat in the driveway of the white house for over a week before it was moved to the driveway where it is now. They came yesterday and moved one out of the driveway and placed the one that's there now. That's been going one for about week at that house. They appear to moving right along. They removed a lot of trees and utility poles the last two days. The cam from ExchangeSt now has a clear shot of most of site with the trees and poles gone. They began pouring more concrete in Cam 1 yesterday. I believe we'll really start to see it picking up steam in the coming weeks. Per the data they used on the site. Only a small portion of the workers are on site that will be working there in the coming weeks and months.

First of all, let me say that I work in the construction industry.Unless I'm missing something, these drawings are only showing the site work. Typically, this involves grading and connecting the city sewer system, etc. to the structure. That is the work you guys see going on right now.I think they just superimposed the look of the stadium over the site work on the drawings (makes for a nice drawing for the client to look at). From what little they show, there is more than enough time to build this stadium between now and opening day. If the stadium is concrete in nature, most of it will be built somewhere other than at the site and brought in and assembled on site. If the contract has been awarded for the concrete work, the contractor will start to make the stadium at their plant and will have the pieces stored at their plant until they are needed. All of this will take place very rapidly once the support structures are in place.Enjoy the view.

Just a sidenote...... Believe it or not, asbestos is still used today. The EPA tried to ban it twenty years ago or so and the building materials companies sued and the courts decided that they couldn't stop them from using it. Fortunately most American manufacturers don't use it anymore but if you buy drywall or tile from Canada or Mexico it could be asbestos containing, so beware.

You can still buy asbestos containing roof cements in the US. The asbestos is completely harmless as long as it is contained in the asphaltic products. They are much better products than the plastic reinforced cements. There is little difference between asbestos and sacarine. If you limit your exposure to asbestos to small amounts you will be fine. If you drink 1,000 cans of Tab a day with sacarine in it, you will probably get cancer. Thank your local trial lawyer.

Just nosing around on gozips.com and came across these stats for the stadium. I guess I'm very surprised at how many suites are sold and that $21 million of the $30 million is raised. The big question there is, how much of that money ISN'T from Summa or InfoCision? Anyway, it's interesting.http://www.uakron.edu/stadium/support.php
