  1. True, from the university website they enroll 11,323.
  2. I’m looking at the Akron live sports market. If you can’t grasp that, let’s try something else. Toledo market size: 518,300, the university has 15,013 enrollment. Attendance: 21,352 Akron market size: 556,000, and the university has 25,117 enrollment. Attendance: 7,237 The difference? Fanbase engagement. Student engagement. Winning helps too. Toledo eats our lunch when it comes to marketing.
  3. I came across this article which talks about something they talked about a dozen years ago. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/07/cleveland-state-freezes-42-bachelors-masters-degrees-while-it-retools-eliminates-programs-officials-say.html
  4. Former Akron head coach Jim Tressel was named to the Baldwin Wallace Board of Trustees.
  5. That makes too much sense. Which is why it’ll never happen.
  6. Those costs get hidden in the student loans most students take out.
  7. Here’s another thought. The Akron Rubberducks lead the league in attendance. Yes it’s minor league, but it’s baseball in Akron. They drew 3,900 fans per game to downtown Akron. That might not sound like much but they play 5 or 6 times a week. 70 home games a season X 8 minor league teams in Ohio. What do they do better? How do they engage the fans? Akron. Has. No. Clue. They can’t sell football in northeast Ohio. Some high schools draw more football fans. I went to Akron, and still lost interest in the Zips. In the right hands, it could be exciting again.
  8. I disagree. The best rivalries are local rivalries where fans (in most cases) travel to the away games (if you consider 14 miles is “traveling”). A rivalry in Muncie or DeKalb isn’t going to move the needle. Toledo or Dayton is pushing it. It has to start at the top, and I get the feeling the top people of these schools do t give a rats as about athletics. Ohio State has been stealing their lunch for decades, and they’re just hoping to move on to something more prestigious. Or a nice pre-retirement money grab.
  9. Why go to a weeknight game and then drive home and then get up for work the next morning? If you stay home and Akron is way behind you can flip the channel or go to bed.
  10. KEWL!!! I’m tired of using different LA Rams uni’s and adjusting player settings. And playing against NFL teams. It takes a LOT of imagination!!!
  11. 😐 Again?
  12. Chris pitched seven solid innings tonight giving up 2 runs on 5 hits in Fenway Park against the BoSox. He handed the bullpen a 6-2 lead, we will see if they can keep it.
  13. Chris is pitching against the Tribe today at 3:00, game is on Ballys Sports Great Lakes. Nope, he was held out for some reason. Jose Berrios is penciled ion for tomorrow.
  14. Mark your calendars for August 25, 2024, the Cleveland Guardians are planning the second annual “UA Day at the Cleveland Guardians”. Full details at https://lwcal.uakron.edu/event/22864-ua-day-at-the-cleveland-guardians

  15. Chris pitched 7 shutout innings spacing out 5 hits to (hopefully) take the win. His record should be 4-6 after tonight.
  16. If you’re looking for something to watch (since the Zips didn’t make the MAC tourney), Chris Bassett has shut out the White Sox for four innings so far. Toronto batters handed him a comfortable 9 run lead.
  17. Game two was closer, Kent 6 Akron 5.
  18. Well the good guys built a nice 8-2 lead going into the 8th before the bullpen puked up 8 runs. Well, there’s always game two.
  19. Chris left the mound with. 3 run lead giving up 1 run in 6.3 innings. That should be good for a W, but I’m headed outside for awhile.
  20. I saw that. I have not seen anything about an injury. He was on Chris Rose Rotation talking about pitcher health… https://youtu.be/zGsin-uz8OQ?si=9-Gz1qhKsyPlpaLl
  21. Chris will be on MLB Network tomorrow at 1pm vs. Philadelphia (Nola)
  22. The good guys win again in Central Michigan, they’re 8-3 in the last eleven games. This team is putting it together. I would not be disappointed if they continued this run and earned a trip up here on the 22nd. It would be a nIce to have the underclass experience that. (not criticizing the seniors by any means). They’ve all definitely put the work in and deserve more games.
  23. Zips in the Pros after one month Chris Bassett has a 2-5 record with a 5.45 ERA, 34 K’s, and a 1.68 ERA. I haven’t been able to catch him on the tube yet this season. JT Brubaker’s career is still on hold, although he was traded by the Pirates to the Yankees. He recently started throwing off a mound and the team is looking at him being active after the All Star break. The Yanks are a half game out of first. Looks like there’s a good chance he’ll be playing late into the fall [fingers crossed].
  24. oops wrong thread
