Time for the Zips to put-up-or-shut-up. If we really deserved to be in the tournament...if that 28 RPI meant anything...the Zips need to win tonight. Three straight games in Cleveland = no "big arena" excuses. Hell...Reggie played at the OSU arena in high school. Kent has had two, 3-deep NIT runs. Ball State went 4-deep in the NIT a while back. It's time for the Zips to win some post season games for the first time since Nick Dials donned the Blue and Gold!5 points

Let us get off Kwan's back. KC spent an hour pre-practice yesterday working on several aspects of his game with coaches. Yes, he worked on shooting both inside and beyond the arc. KC cares and has a strong desire to win. Encourage him. Being down on any player is detrimental. Akron is a really good team. Encourage them all. KC is NOT the reason the Zips lost to Buffalo. KC plays good defense and leads. Have faith in him, He will be a positive force. Kwan was a shooting guard through out high school. He was six-four when recruited by Akron. His expected maximum height was six-six or seven. KC never expected to be a post player or power forward. In this regard he has done well learning to play out of position. As regards to Aaron Jackson don't you just love his energy and attitude? Aaron plays his heart out. Yes, he is as wild as a March hare. Aaron is growing out of that. Aaron plays good defense especially when he avoids reach in fouls. We need Ace to give 10-15 minutes per game. It is a balancing act managing minutes. Make yourself a depth chart (your own) and determine how to distribute them. Keep in mind that most players can not go much over 30 minutes in a game. Then, factor in that they will play again in two or three days. The coaching staff looks at many factors in deciding a player's playing time. Love the kids; all of them.3 points

Glad to see Lebron publicly choose Akron over OSU. Its game day Zipsnation, and we have a chance to get our biggest win in school history. GO ZIPS!3 points

Any A10 or MVC games would be an improvement. The MAC in general needs to schedule higher levels or it will always be a one invite league. How about Akron and Cant team up and schedule (ie.) Northern Iowa and Drake on a Thursday/Saturday in Iowa, then the next year in Ohio? That would give all 4 teams potentially 2 wins over quality opponents and could be done for small travel dollars.2 points

LeBron is rooting for the Zips. Hope he is there wearing Zips gear. "Obviously I'm torn, You know, being a huge supporter of Ohio State, but I'm also a big supporter of my high school coach in Keith Dambrot. "He helped shaped me into who I am today as a basketball player, and it's where I'm from, so I'm going with the Zips for sure." Zips are five point underdogs This was on ESPN's front page (on the right side) this morning.2 points

Everybody has been taking KD's comments out of context. I saw some announcers doing it, I think I saw it in an article, and I've seen people here do it. I don't have the exact quote, but I'm fairly certain I can paraphrase in the proper context. He said that he was 'going to pretend like he still has Lebron James sand run everything through him'. In other words, he wasn't saying Big Dog is the chosen one. He was just saying that he wanted to run the offense through him, something he once did when he had Lebron. KD was even asked later in the interview if he was comparing BigDog to LeBron and he said, no, if anything BigDog is more like a Shaq then a LeBron.1 point

The time for change this season is over. Play the players who got you here. Play the rotations that got you here. It will be up to our team to play to it's ability - if they do, there is a very good chance to keep playing.1 point

Start Kwan and Big Dog together. Take Aron out of the starting lineup. We could use the extra rebounding.1 point

Travis...Joyce...Wood...those 26-win guys never got a shot at redemption after their MAC Finals loss. Kwan's certainly got his shot at redemption tonight. As an athlete coming off a loss and a poor performance, that's all you can ask.1 point

Kwan always seems to play his best against P5 programs. I expect him to play well tonight. If he plays like he did against Kent in the game at the JAR, we win.1 point

I feel getting NEO fans to cheer for Akron basketball over tOSU basketball isn't that much of a stretch. Now getting them to cheer for Akron football over tOSU football...1 point

Amen Morris. “It’s every kid’s dream from Ohio to go to Ohio State, play at the Schottenstein and beat them on their home court,” Kretzer said. “You ask anyone growing up, most of the time they’re Ohio State fans for the most part. They don’t get recruited by Ohio State. Guys take that as a chip on their shoulder and if they get to go there and get an opportunity to play, it’s definitely an added incentive to your mind-set.”1 point

The funny thing is had we sacrificed a Coppin State or Bethune-Cookman home game in the regular season to take the cash and play at OSU like we are being forced to now, we might of at least been in a position for our name to appear on the screen of 20+ "bubble teams" during the selection show and be hosting an NIT game.1 point

Handed out washable Zips tattoos to my students so far today. About 35 kids are walking around with the Zips "Z" on them because they thought it was "sleek" and "cool".1 point

You want to win every game, but as far as big wins go, this is a lousy OSU team that isn't good enough to be in the NCAA tourney-- but the type of win this program needs... or at least the type of opponent they need to face more often --win or lose. The fact that ZN and the players are excited is the exact reason Akron should forgo home games against lousy opponents that draw 3,000 fans-- and they should hit the road for better games, money, and more recognizable opponents. Fans seem to want it, and I would be shocked if the players didn't want it. I would gladly give up 5 home games a year and still follow the Zips if they played a better schedule 21-13 vs 26-8 i can live with that... I think it would help in recruiting, and better prepare the team to play on bigger stages. --Go Zips1 point

Good find. I agree, nice to see us get some respect. Now let's go get a win and give a reason for the rest of the pundits to respect us.1 point

Interesting Observation: Ohio State is playing, so the local news in Cleveland seems to be giving us an incredible amount of attention. It does have me wondering if, from a local publicity standpoint, this game may have just as much value to us as an NCAA game.1 point

Give me solid mid-major home-home's and I'm happy. Middle Tennessee was a good one. UWGB is a good one. Even Duquesne is ok. Monmouth is looking to play anyone, anywhere. I think they'd be a great home-home. Valpo. Stoney Brook. Replace the lost Bracket Buster match up and dump a cupcake or two for decent competition and I'm happy. Save the high majors for the early season tournaments. Dreaming of getting a high-major to Akron is like pretending the RPI means anything. Can't our new AD get us a game with Marquette? What are his connections? Steinbrecher is bitching that our strength of schedule needs upped...so give us a couple phone numbers of willing opponents.1 point

We've had a home-and-home with Dayton in recent year, and had a home-and-home with Xavier in the 90s. That's good stuff. I don't know why we can't get those anymore. And of course, the Xavier home game was the multi-OT game where Ball had the 44 point outburst. I'll never forget it. And Xavier was ranked at the time. THOSE are the kinds of opportunities we need more often. It was nearly the all-time greatest win for the program.1 point

We have heard all year about the 11 straight years of 21+ wins teams. Akron has it again this year. OSU currently has 20 wins so Akron can make the club more exclusive by knocking someone out head to head. I guess there is some irony to that.1 point
