  1. The best marketing a coach can do is prepare his team to win games. Coach Bowden has won the last 7 out of 8 games. @CoachRobIanello tweets all the time.

  2. Saw this guy play last Friday night in Youngstown against Mooney. He is straight diesel. He's one of those athletes who is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. in pads. He was clearly the best athlete on the field at all times. For either team. Not close. He's fast. Fast off the edge - though probably not beefy enough to play DE in college. But who knows. Looks more like a LB. He returned a kickoff for a touchdown & no one was close to catching him from behind. He coasted the final 40 yards. At 6-2, 215 it was beautiful. I'm surprised STVM doesn't have him at RB. I'd be trying to get the ball into his hands as often as possible. Also surprised STVM didn't use him at WR. Only kickoff return & defense. I think we got the proverbial "steal' with this guy.

  3. Terry is on WAKR every Wednesday. He then is on 1350 every Thursday for Zips live. He also has Zips Football with Terry Bowden on STO that airs on Mondays. I hear him on Sirius radio from time to time. I've seen him on CBS Sports and he was a key speaker on Outside the Lines on ESPN. The dude is all over the place.

  4. We got a very unique piece of publicity for this game on the Channel 3 News this morning. A reporter was at a sports bar in Cleveland somewhere, and I believe they were talking to the two owners, who were dressed in Browns gear and talking about the Browns game. The one guy, after giving his Browns pick, held up a mini Zips helmet and said something like, "And as my bonus pick this week...I am picking the Zips over Appalachian State this week". I was stunned. But more than anything else, it was a reminder to me of how much mileage App State has gotten over the years from that Michigan upset, especially from Ohio's typical OSWho Honks. Why else would something like this have happened?

  6. Certainly a much better piece than anything I've seen out of the ABJ.

  7. I enjoyed this write-up on their Board. Put some effort into their research and had some humor.

  8. Baltimore Ravens let Belichick walk, not the Cleveland Browns so I don't know how it's a comparison to begin with. He wasn't going to sit out coaching 4 years until the Browns return and he certainly had no desire to leave Pats when the Browns returned. In what made up scenario would of Cleveland been able to keep Belichick? It should be noted that record was with him coaching an expansion roster.

  9. I'm wondering where you are getting your news that he is OUT. That's not what I am getting. He doesn't even have an arraignment until the 30th. There will be a small bail that he will have to post, and nothing more will happen until he has a trial scheduled, which won't happen until long after the season is over.

  10. 1. Zips have multiple weapons in the passing game. Passing attack will be the strength of this team all year long. 2. The Zips made a believer out of me last week. If only we had last year's D to go along with this years O. However, I believe that the D will improve as the season goes on. 3. D - Last year's strength, this year's weakness. Plus, the Mountaineers have a good ground attack. Watch out for the misdirection plays. They ran those well against Tennessee.

  11. To all ZipsNation members - I want to put in writing the following - This site was created to allow Zips fans an venue to discuss the various athletic programs. There's no other reason. Rather than sit around with our thumbs up our butts waiting for media coverage, a few of us banded together and did something about it. It would be very easy to drop out and move to a back page of the MACbbs board like K.e.n.t. But I think that would be embarrassing. We created something nice here, with high functionality and a higher standard for content. When opposing fans visit our site, I want them to be impressed and think we are legit. I pay to maintain ZipsNation. Happily. I deal with all the a-hole opposing fans attempting to post, and a bunch of stuff that's invisible to the general public too. I'll sit in a dark Subway parking lot at 10 pm, after a 14 hour work day, talking to some Marshall Podcasters/bloggers to help promote the Zips and ZipsNation. Whatever it takes. Dr. Z has done yeoman's work to ensure to make it look sharp, and install upgrades. He also gives us great pics, which you don't get on other MAC boards. This site has to be about Zips athletics, and fun. It can't exist to cyber-bully other fans. I do not want good people to avoid posting for fear someone will threaten, or just be downright disrespectful to them. Can you tweak someone's nose? Yes. Can you have a passionate debate? Yes. Can you say "The AD sucks!" Yes. But when it gets to the level of "Meet me behind the church after school..." or "Suck <insert something lame>", that's not acceptable. It can't be. One of our posters was a bit out of line the other day, and penned an apology. It takes a man to do that. It isn't easy. It's 100% accepted, and we move onward. I've got around 10,000 posts here. I'm pretty happy with most of them. A couple... I wish I hadn't posted. And I've had to apologize. It happens. I hope K'92 returns to posting. The backbone of this board is the guy that travels to Wisconsin and posts a trip recap complete with a humungous soft pretzel pic. I wish we had 100 more of him. Times are great for Zips football. We've won 7-of-8 games, with the lone loss coming at Wisconsin. Compare that to the Brookhart recruits on Bowden's first team - they won 6 games in their entire 4-year careers! This weekend should be a blast. Great weather and a great home opponent. And I look forward to seeing what that guy under the scoreboard has cooking in his smoker.
