  2. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to year four of the "When is Kwan Cheatam going to become the power forward we all know he can be?" Show. Folks, Kwan will not become that man this year -- sorry to disappoint! Kwan was, and is a stretch Wing player, who on rare occasion shows the ability to rebound and perform limited time offensively in the paint. If he is not shooting well from the outside, especially beyond the 3-point line, he has to have a short leash. This is not to be overly critical of this fine young man, it is simply to explain his nature. If Keith starts three guards plus Kwan and Big Dog again, he is trying to blow away the opponent early from the 3-point line. And Isaiah had better grow horns, since he is the only post player on the floor.

  3. If Nelson is better, he'll get the QB job. If he's not, he won't. There will be 3 scholarship QB's on the roster from here-on-out. The good ones will see the field, and the others will transfer or switch positions. That's the same everywhere... Nelson will get plenty of opportunities to see the field in 2017. If Bowden could see into the future, I'm sure he would have pulled Nelson's redshirt and played him at mid-season. But Woodson's return was always "just around the corner," and Chapman won a couple games. By the time it was clear that Woodson's shoulder wasn't responding, and Chapman couldn't move the chains, it was too late to play Nelson.

  4. I do appreciate Marla covering the zips and giving them some good publicity. I am very happy that the team is playing so well. I would have preferred that her article focus on the current players rather than focusing on one event that occurred in September. Stuart, Sam, and Danilo have all missed significant time this year with injuries so it is not fair to blame one student athlete for the growing pains that this team has experienced. I hope that the zips have a great win today but I am also very appreciative of how hard that Victor Souto competed for the zips and for everything that Victor has done for Akron soccer and the university over the last 4 years.

  5. Big Dog put up a 17 7 5 on 6/10 shooting in 26 minutes of play. Those numbers are better than the 13.6 7.6 1.6 numbers that he put up last season to become 1st team all-MAC. There is a lot of blame to go around for the game 1 loss, but I felt Big Dog was one of the few that actually showed up to play...

  6. Kwan very well might be our best defensive player. For a team that surrendered a 90 point game, we need his defensive presence on the floor. I would like to see him take more of a backseat on offense. He should never be our lead shot taker like he was against YSU. We have plenty of other guys that can put the ball in the net. We don't have many + defenders.

  7. Zips looking to shore up defensive performance on eve of home opener For Dambrot, the key to fixing that situation is simple. “Splinters,” he said, suggesting players will be on the bench if they’re not performing up to expectations on the defensive end. “If you don’t hold them accountable that’s what happens. If you have to win 60-58 to prove a point, that’s what you have to do.” While I don't want to watch any 60-58 games, something has to be done to shake the team up after that sleepwalking session at YSU.

  8. I feel like the football team's uniforms get better every season, and the basketball team's get worse. Our school colors are blue and gold. Not blue, silver and black. Why does the kangaroo head just randomly get cut off below the eyes? The University seal is ugly.

  9. I don't like that they are not blue and gold... again. I do like that they say Akron... and not "Z" The lack of any consistency in brand building by the athletic dept is confusing

  11. I was at that game as well - I recorded the goal and posted it to YouTube since that was such a huge win over Indiana then. Enjoy

  13. Lest we not forget defeating IU November 28, 2010 in Akron in the round of 16 of that NCAA National Championship Season. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2010-11/schedule or August 18, 2009 during the regular season at Akron as part of the 23 wins leading to the College Cup. http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2009-10/schedule

  14. Whooo! And those were the days before Jerry was said to have mellowed. They say that Yeags taught Bobby Knight most of his tricks! So, you got to see IU legend Angelo DiBernardo? I would call him the greatest collegiate player I have been privileged to witness. America's version of Diego Maradona. What a shame he was born too soon to help the U.S. internationally.
