  1. I was really hoping someone else would step up and not force me to be the one who responds to this. I don't know the age ofK92, but these crude remarks are generally representative of an adolescent mentality. Those of us who have been on this board since it's infancy have worked to maintain some semblance of decency and decorum. A basic rule might be that people don't use language they wouldn't use to their mother. The 'c' word falls way outside what should be expected in discussion that represents the Zipsnation and the University of Akron. I'll leave it there. GoZips!

  2. They play a pretty small front court. Their starting PF comes in at 6'5, but puts up pretty solid numbers 12.5 points 6.8 boards on 60% shooting. Kwan needs to exploit his size in the post. Something he failed to do against Gonzaga. Their starting C is 6'7 217lbs, but has missed the last 4 games due to an abdominal injury. No clue if he will be healthy by Saturday. The guy starting in his place comes in at 6'9 222, but has only played about 15 minutes each game accumulating at least 4 fouls in each. Nobody has the size to handle Big Dog 1 on 1. Their 3 starting guards each average 31.8 minutes per game or more (Elmore, Loop, and Browning). Jon Elmore is the only player in D1 basketball averaging 23+ points and 7+ assists. 62 of 65 of Loop's shot attempts have come from 3 and he is shooting .484 from 3. Browning is their 2nd leading scorer and posts efficient numbers a cross the board (.495 FG%, .400 3P%, and .909 FT%). Edit:Offensively we just need to keep doing what we've been doing and feed Big Dog. They will have no option but to bring the double. We should be able to bait them into fouls in the process. Defensively I'd have Robotham and Williams (when he's on the court) babysit their 3 point specialist and have Antino and Ivey guard their dynamic play making guards.

  3. http://www.midwestprocombine.com/players/ Looks like Brad Ruhaak will be at the inaugural Midwest pro soccer combine on Dec. 19-20....working hard to make a good impression to start his pro career. The MLS soccer combine is scheduled for Jan. 7-12 in Los Angeles. MLS super draft is Jan. 13 also in Los Angeles. I don't know if Adam will be at the draft/combine as I don't know if he is still considered NYRB homegrown. I would think that Adam Najem. Victor Souto, Brad Ruhaak, and Danilo Radjen all deserve an invite to the MLS combine if the 4 of them are interested in pursuing a career in MLS. Thank you to all 4 "zips forever" mentioned above for everything that they did for the University of akron and zips soccer and good luck to all 4 if they choose to pursue a pro career.

  5. Do not expect any shot violations. The Herd is in the top ten in possessions per game, and as would be expected at that pace, also near the bottom in scoring defense. Should be a fun one to watch.

  8. And UT-Arlington (Sun Belt) was at Saint Mary's. They happen. Gonzaga had to go on the road for years and knock teams off before teams would agree to come to the Kennel.

  9. Why does that matter? Gonzaga didn't get to being where it is at by comparing itself to Pepperdine. IPFW knocked off Indiana this year and UT-Arlington knocked off St. Marys. Every year these type of upsets happen.

  10. I hope the NCAA is proud of that crap show. Horrible field, horrible referee, horrible soccer, and the champion of PK's. Awful.

  11. People have been saying that about Akron since ~2009. We know we're as good, if not better, than a lot of those 13-15 seed teams that spring those early round upsets in the tourney or those teams that come out of nowhere to beat a top 15 team in the regular season. We just for whatever reason have fallen short time after time doing it ourselves. I'm not in the camp of it will never happen because statistically speaking we should be due. I can understand however how Zips have grown tired of hearing guys like Dickau telling us how good we are and that we will be making some noise come tournament time. As someone previously said the Zips are like a bad rendition of the movie Groundhogs Day. Year after year the season ends in disappointment and we fail to take that next step. We've pretty much been stuck in a 7 year rut.

  12. Dan Dickau sure disagrees with you. The link is still up at http://www.wccsports.com/thew.tv Click Akron at Gonzaga and move to the 1:55 mark. Dickau (a member of the Bill Walton double/double club btw) has something to say about that. FWIW the "club" is making 1st Team Top 5 AP All American and First Team Top 5 Academic All American in the same season. Walton did it three times. Dickau and Olynyk have done it for Gonzaga.

  13. I can't really get upset about losing at the #8 team's place across the country. That said it'd be nice to break through and win one of these sometime. We're obviously due since we're such poison

  14. Pretty sure the T was called because he lowed his shoulder into the guy, not because he overreacted to the call.

  15. I wish the feed was a little better because I did not see the T on Big Dog. It looked like he was upset with the acting job by their center but it did not appear the his reaction was over the top or deserved a t. We are not going to get any calls on the road but that one really hurt and turned the game around. Big Dog merely put his elbow on their center's back and then their center fell down a second later.
