2017 looks bright for the men and women runners, jumpers and throwers. Both teams smash Kent State in annual dual meet while the basketball team was beating Eastern Michigan. Score would have been worse if the scoring sustem wasn't skewed, only 2 scores per each team per event. 10 firsts by the men's team, 9 firsts for women's team. Terrell McClain breaks school record in long jump. Both men and women strong as usual in pole vault. Ariadna Rams Gandia a beast in women long jump and triple jump. Still need some good weight throwers, both guys and gals. Two sophomore men high jumpers that are the two best in the MAC by far. A few off-shore recruits this year. Need a replacement for Clayton Murphy mid-distance, but Jackie Seifring a multi-wonner and will be the multi champ indoor and out. Big meet on February 2 and 3 - Akron Invitational, lots of top notch competition. Great place to watch track too.2 points

With the MAC so weak any loss we have from now on will be considered a "bad" loss and any win irrelevant.2 points

ESPN3 is a valuable tool for MAC schools (Crain's full article) By KEVIN KLEPS ...Akron's high-definition broadcasts on ESPN3 — the Worldwide Leader's online streaming service — are produced by Classic Teleproductions and originate from a production room in which the university invested about $500,000 on a studio and new equipment. It's a costly endeavor for an institution whose budget problems have been well-documented, but one Akron feels is necessary because of its obligations to ESPN and the Mid-American Conference. The Zips, like their MAC peers, also believe streaming athletic events is a way to increase the school's exposure and add to its appeal with athletes and wanna-be broadcasters....2 points

I stayed up to watch it. First, I was shocked it was such a long segment. I expected the usual....just a short blurb. Secondly, I was happy it talked about the success of the entire program instead of just the success of one local guy. That kind of publicity for Akron Soccer from the Cleveland Media is not something we get except for once in a blue moon. Kudos to WKYC.2 points

So today Webster was out on the court to help pick up the winning duck. My son actually threw it and won. When we went to claim the prize, not only did we get the cash, but Webster was there and ave us a voucher for 4 tickets to any Ducks game this year. My son said it was the best day ever!2 points

I looked it up - eerily similar year in some ways. Started off with an awful loss to Coastal Carolina, then a couple "good losses" - one to Oklahoma State (I remember this one painfully I was in attendance in Puerto Rico, where Tree and Harney did not play over a paperwork issue and Chauncey, oh Chauncey why did you have to foul late on a missed three point shot? But I digress :). Anyway also lost at Creighton (and a loss to Detroit Mercy). So the Zips were 17-4 and the streak was at 13 when they got any votes in the Coaches Poll Date Votes Rank Record Streak 2/4/13 2 42 17-4 13 2/11/13 9 37 19-4 15 2/18/13 19 27 21-4 17 2/25/13 53 24 23-4 19 Ranked in top 25 3/5/13 6 36 24-5 lost to Buffalo 3/12/13 0 0 24-6 lost to Kent1 point

We added bodies certainly to the position, but its still to be seen if they can play at the FBS level or not.1 point

Oh by the way ! Nate Stewart is Definitely a Zip. He has the dynamic that can blow the roof off of any defense . The coaching staff , they got a diamond for the price of gold. He is the same on both sides of the ball but , he prefers receiver , Look him up on YouTube , he played football for 2 schools St. Pius X H.S. in Pennsylvania And Bethlehem Catholic H.S., also in Northeast Pennsylvania . His last high school game was in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania McDonald's All-star Classic game. He left a record 7 catches 269 yards and three touchdowns .and was the M.V.P., all 4 years of his highlights are on you tube . He was in the 2012 USA U15 All-American game , was supposed to be in the Big33 game but got snubbed by his coach at Bethlehem Catholic, because he left the school in November 2015 . In 2014-2015 season, at the end of his Junior season , while still at Pius X he was the district XI class A Defensive Player Of The Year and they still selected him as an All-State wide receiver 81 catches 1151 yards and 16 tds., and that's not including special team yards and tds. Once they put whoever the right quarterback is on the field , you guys can be like what WM had at WR last year , specially if you can get Freddie Simmons on the field too ! Be excited !! 1920324_875137349187174_714289787501443344_n.jpg?oh=13e4757b3d3d2101abf3dc71aad70f9f&oe=5868313F 12193770_1073552322679008_3790327300310901683_n.jpg?oh=29588dfbc196cab21460348d5506b056&oe=5873B5A51 point

Absolutely. He is very well educated (even says he loves the Zips! - in response to you). The comment wasn't directed at him, but more the perception of "In short: not good." Another topic but one that will continue to warrant more discussion. The P5 schools have automatic exposure due to their conference ranks and conference schedules. They can play 10 DIII schools, but if they go .500 or better in conference play, the committee/media will take notice. Mid-Majors, especially those not in the A-10 and AAC, don't have that luxury. Hence the hundreds or thousands of posts on this board ranting about our Out-of-Conference schedule. My frustration stems from us needing to "up" our level of competition, that next-level competition not being willing to play away from their home gym, and then us scheduling Coppin State instead. It's a perpetuating circle of crap.1 point

I think this is awesome if true. Philly is ~1.5 hours further from Clifton, NJ than is Red Bull Arena (Harrison, NJ) but still relatively close to home for Adam. BTW, our new transfer, Morgan Hackworth, is in the Union's development system, I believe.1 point

I would love for a H&H vs UNCW as I live in Wilmington now. I know of many Zips alumni in our area of NC who would travel to the game (many of us worked for athletics). The only top 100 teams UNCW has played are Clemson and Middle Tennessee and they lost to both. They will probably run through their conference.1 point

I don't have a problem admitting that my perception or opinion was wrong when facts are presented. So thank you Jupitertoo and OU dude for chiming in and adding some objectivity to the conversation. Campbell and Big Dog are both great players and it is a shame Campbell will finish his college career on the bench. At this point, however, it seems like big dog is dominating the conference and no one is matching up with him.1 point

DeAndre Yedlin dubbed ‘best full-back in Championship’ after two-assist performance vs. Rotherham ...While the comment of him being the best full-back in the league is made by just one random analyst, it’s still a cool complement for him and proof that he’s doing very well this season. Under Jurgen Klinsmann, Yedlin lost his grasp on the starting right back job towards the final few matches as Timmy Chandler took over. It will be interesting to see where he stands in the pecking order now that Bruce Arena is in charge.1 point

Watched a bit of Ravenna/Toledo game. Didn't look sold out. Whatever. That is a horrible place to watch a game. Just getting in there and finding a place to sit is a pain and even many of the seats courtside are benches. When you walk in the JAR, and you are looking for a bleacher seat you can at least assess the situation.1 point

Absolutely! I was just trying to say that I'll be relieved if we win both games this week alone.1 point

Kent won 28 games in 2008, and was a #9 Seed. That's well within the pool of At-Large participants. Let me just say this. I only responded to that previous post because I think it's ridiculous to be looking at a 16-3 Akron team right now, in mid-January, and proclaiming the "a MAC team is not getting an At Large" crap. I'll wait until we have a couple more losses before I do that. But, I am not putting any games in the loss column until they happen. Right now, we're better than every team in this league by 2 games, and I hope it doesn't end.1 point
