Reading the game thread yesterday I was amazed how some posters were implying it's ok for UA to lose as long as they aren't favored to win. I guess those Ianello seasons were successes at 1-11 as last as Akron was expected to lose every game. i wonder if the reasons we are favored to lose is because of the coaching staff. Novel idea, I know. I give any coaching staff at least 2 years to become winners. It takes time to get "your players" on the team. After 6 years, 100% is on the staff. If the talent isn't there, whose fault is that? It's the coach that recruited and developed that talent. Lack of facilities and a garbage off campus stadium haven't been excuses for a long time now. Sooner or later people need to wake up to the real issue.3 points

Umm. Interesting to see the different reactions from people to the same circumstances. Not just referring to the Troy game but all previous games. Didn't see the Troy game. Checked the post game stats thoroughly. I saw a Troy team taht was able to pick up a lot of yards against the Akron defense. Even though they also had trouble scoring earlier in the second half Troy made THE long drive it had to in order to win the game in the 4th Q. Akron's defense could not prevent that again. I saw 2 teams that made lots of mistakes. Hundred yard + in penalties both ways. Again,an Akron trademark. Don't know about Troy. I saw an Akron RB who had a 100 yard game! Ya might think that would spell a win at least. But the QB had a -37 yards on the ground(I know sacks are counted there). Can he not run or won't run anymore? Honestly don't know. I saw that Wolf had 70 or so yards receiving. Thats a + as he was their best WR coming back. I saw a QB who only completed 50% of his passes(20-40) and threw 2 interceptions. Much different on the Troy side. And on and on.. I think the frustration is that there appears to be little or very limited growth of the program in general and at specific and very noticeable positions on the field year in and year out. 1-11 has not been a legitimate yardstick for a number of seasons now. The so called point 'spread' never has been a legitimate yardstick by which to measure the progress of a program. What is legit is to measure performance against your closest peers. Here that is teams in the MAC. And if the program is truly progressing it should be measuring itself against the best teams in the MAC and we know who they are: NIU,Toledo,WMU,OU,BGSU. You don't measure progress against the perennial 'bottom feeders'. Finally, you measure progress by looking back to see what the program has done. Is it winning the MAC Championship in 2005? Is it a bowl win a couple of seasons ago? Choose what you will the question remains is the program now performing at those levels?3 points

Wait a second. Troy beat Southern Miss last year? Well that changes everything! Southern Miss? The mighty 7-6 Southern Miss?!?!? You can't be serious. And as far as using a close loss to a good team as any kind of a yardstick to measure a team's quality is absolute folly. It means less than jack $hit. I watched a terrible Akron Zips ball club piddle fart for 4 hours to lose to an equally inept Troy squad. Spin it however you want. That was bad football. If you can somehow pull any type of value out of last night's debacle, I wonder if you could enjoy watching 4 hours worth of Or Or And then get on here and tell me why I was wrong for thinking I watched a TW, DF, GF.3 points

Since this is on ESPN3 again, I will specifically schedule something productive to do with it on in the background (hard to watch, hard not to watch) so I will have something to show for the 3.5 hours, just in case.2 points

I stayed first half with my comrade above. Too much over the top long ball into offensive third. Need to play more through balls diagonally on the ground. Fitness seems to be an overall issue. Good News is that I enjoyed watching and will return.1 point

Stuck around for the first half of the womens game. Looked good but tired near the end of the first half. Sorry to read but not surprised they faltered in the 2nd half. Wish them the best to continue progressing and find some more victories.1 point

I was at the Iowa State game. I have watched a lot of football and that is a top 4 MAC team at best. I am just frustrated as $hit!! I am sick of losing and nobody seems to be as pissed off as I am about it. I want results now. I am sick of waiting and watching bad football while I wait.1 point

We haven't beaten a D1 opponent since October 22, 2016. Since then we got throttled by a horrendous buffalo team. We then turned around and got hammered by Toledo. Then we get beat by one of the worst teams in the MAC at home against BGSU. It gets so ridiculous that we have to throw in a high school quarterback to go get beat at Ohio. I know... I know... injuries. Excuses excuses I understand losing to PSU, but come on.... we didn't even have a pulse! They could have beaten us by 100 if they wanted and penn state hasn't exactly been blowing people out since that game. iowa state isn't very good. That isn't my opinion. That is fact. Last year they beat a 4 win San Jose state team, a horrendous Kansas team and a powerhouse 5 win Texas tech team. That's it. This year they struggled to beat their D-1AA opponent far more than they struggled with us. Troy is the best "loss" we have this year. Congrats.1 point

Troy looked like absolute crap last night. We looked worse. That game was right there for the taking and we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. You have to win those games.1 point

The Zips played a pathetic first half, but didn't look to bad in the second half. You can't go into the red zone all the time and come away with 3 or no points. To me, Austin Wolf is their best receiver when he's in there, but I don't know if he's 100% health wise. K Smith has also improved a lot from last year. The Zips defensive line has a inept pass rush and is less than average against the run. They're are definitely not going to reach 6 wins this year. I don't even know when or if they will win against an FBS school. I think it might be time to start looking at some strong DII head coaches to come in and shake things up. The current staff does not seem to be getting any better and there doesn't seem to be any indication that they will. I have watched better play calling in my 8yr olds football games. I don't think any Zips fans have any expectations or confidence in the current staff. They're just not getting any better. It's time to move on.1 point

Put it this way.... people I work with k ow so much about Troy they thought they were from Michigan and they were surprised as hell that they had a football team.1 point

Congrats to @ZippyRulz @Zipgrad01 @kreed5120 @LZIp and @GJGood who answered all three correct. Only two would have been correct with one less dropped pass. (honorable mention @zippyfan34)1 point

LZ and Skip, You can spout whatever you want about Troy's record last year, or the point spread, or that they were playing at home or whatever excuse you want to use to somehow make it seem like this isn't a bad loss. However. . . Is your eyesight ok? Did Troy look like a good team in any way, shape or form? If that is a team that makes a bowl game it will be because they play shittier competition than can be imagined. They were just as inept as the Zips. Terrible discipline. Terrible execution. They had a nice running back. I'll give you that. If I was the Troy OC, that guy would have run the ball 20 more times and won the game by 3 scores. Akron played a horrendously lackluster game and almost and should have gotten the road W. Time will tell and I certainly could be wrong, but for me, as of now, that's a terrible loss. Any game that is winnable with any remote semblance of basic football competence that winds up being a loss is a bad loss. Any excuses made are empty, delusional exercises in turd polishing.1 point

Spare me the Bullsh!t. Its the same sh!t every year. We are a mediocre pathetic team with absolutely nothing to look forward to which is why our home game attendance continues to be hot garbage. Call this team what it is = GARBAGE No Growth no nothing. I am sick and tired of watching the Zips basically in the blind week by week knowing absolutely nothing in regards to how we are going to come out and play. There is absolutely no consistency with this team unless we are playing a garbage FCS school. Its time to hold everyone accountable instead of contining to give this team from the top down a pass. The only thing spectacular about Akron Football is @ZipsEquipment And until the masses stop sugar coding this BS NOTHING will change.1 point

I'm right there with you as a proud low division player (D6: as low as you could go when i was in high school), but it is no lie that I saw maybe 5 made field goals (for my team or my opponents) in my 4 years. The run game was also dominate for good reason as well. Maybe you had a different experience, but I saw a lot of games in my time.1 point

That was grounding. Putting this game in the GP1 Dollar General game category would even be a stretch1 point

Yep, Otto Orf with the Cleveland Force at the Richfield Coliseum. In the days that I thought indoor soccer was great. I can no longer say that now that I have such appreciation for the true beautiful game.1 point
