I've been thinking the same thing. The big guys never really get punished and sometimes even get better. It's unfortunate, especially since most small schools do things the right way. The biggest NCAA scandals of the past couple of decades? Penn State football, Ohio State football, UNC basketball, Miami football, Florida State football, USC football. All of those teams are still at the top. All had different infractions, but no penalties seemed to hurt them, except for maybe 1 or 2 losing seasons. I'm sure Louisville will get someone like Tom Crean and be just fine...2 points

Louisville sold it's soul in pursuit of athletic glory. Pitino and Petrino are two of the scummiest coaches in all of college athletics. I hope Louisville goes down hard.2 points

Which is why my Juniors in high school can't write three sentences explaining how a condenser works. Explaining why one group, or even one subgrroup within the group, in america doesn't get to dictate what is and is not patriotism; deserves a through heartfelt explanation.2 points

Annnnnnnd now this thread has turned into an echo chamber. I'm going to try to teach my parakeets to read. They certainly like to repeat sounds they hear. If I can just get them to read and echo what they read here, I won't need Zipsnation threads anymore!1 point

Maybe the consequences will be different this time. Maybe they'll truly go after them hard this time. I welcome anything that helps to shake things up, and possibly even the playing field a bit.1 point

Political correctness is a modern form of left wing McCarthyism. It's why the mainstream media is afraid to call out the groups promoting this nonsense for fear of being labeled as racists, bigots etc...1 point

Came across this today. Complain about it all you want folks, this is VERY promising research which is sure to be expanded upon soon with larger sample sizes. The article breaks it down pretty well. But we discussed on this forum research published earlier this year studying 202 former NFL players, which appeared to link CTE to football players. The result of that study was that researchers were going to try to locate a biomarker to then predict the existence of CTE in living people. This new BU research, albeit relatively small sample size, appears to have found a biomarker. Which means now we can expand to a larger, more general population to analyze/follow/make predictions based on the biomarker. Make predictions of who's more likely to have it, and the severity of it, and by death confirm the predictions. Were of course still aways away from that. But in no way shape or form is this bad science, or missleading. This is very good science folks. Connection to football has been indicated. Now there is a possible bio-indicator, found in heightened levels within Football players studied. Now for researching both in conjunction together to see if the link in fact is there.1 point

Feds = tax evasion. Also, this isn't the end. Typically, you start with low-level targets and get them to flip to testify against the big targets in exchange for lighter sentences.1 point

There's no such thing as too long. Again, it forces you to consider something you possibly hadn't considered before, like the following: The military doesn't own the symbols of this country. Patriotism is not determined by military service. Both my grandfathers served in the military. As did my great grandfathers and my great uncle. Both of my grandfathers and my great uncle, whom I was rather close with, all didn't believe that pledges, anthems, and flags were a measure of patriotism that mattered. I know this from conversations I've had with them. They all believed it was what you do to support your fellow citizen, and the common welfare that matters. My grandfather (on my mother's side) refused to fly an american flag at his house because he was disgusted with McCarthyism, and swore to "high heaven, hell be in high water, and the great lord all mighty hath no fury" (as my mother and grandmother tell the story) if he would be declared unpatriotic for not flying a flag. He opposed segregation of the boy scouts. He opposed segregation in schools, and spent his public life (elementary school teacher, principal and later Education Department; and positive status in the community) to work to overturning both of those things. He was a great man. His service in the military wasn't what made him great (what he told me when I asked a child about it) but his dedication to his community, to making it a better place for everyone everyday. And I believe from what I know if him, he'd absolutely be supporting those kneeling in prayer during the national anthem. From what I know of him; hell he would have said we needed more of that!1 point

The federal Prosecutors will skate by the small stuff like a donor picking up the cost of a car for a Toledo basketball player. They are trying to shut down the big guys. This first set of indictments are to get the small guys to turn on the big prey. Watch the employees of Nike and Adidas and the assistant coaches turn on their coaching fraternity to get reduced sentences. Here is one of the biggest target: http://bit.ly/2yreu1I1 point

Hope you guys are watching on Thursday night as we host Texas in the Big 12 imitation of MAC-tion. Seriously, we have had some fun games on weeknights. In 2013, the refs took the Texas game away from us after calling a play back when we stripped the ball at the goal line and were heading for a TD with no whistles blowing until very, very, very late. In 2011, we ended the BCS era by knocking Oklahoma State out of the national championship game and putting Alabama in by a statistical thread (but try to get a Tide fan to admit it, never happen). In 2015, though not on a weeknight, it was Halloween and we shut out the Smallhorns. The crowd was going nuts as Texas desperately tried to score at the end . . . and failed. We won't have a sellout because of Thursday night, but we will still have 55k fans (providing further proof that there isn't much to do in Iowa ). And Thursday night games are killers for tailgating. Hope your game next season gets scheduled for a Saturday afternoon or evening, so you can maximize your experience in Ames.1 point

Well when I was there there the airport was empty. Same with the Derby. And there was no signs of life anywhere. Except for Hoppin Frog, which was where my friends and I were attending a party - after a funeral. My perceptions have changed quite a bit since I left Akron 20 years ago, but for me, it was not a good experience being there. I had the opportunity to work all over the most forgotten parts of Appalachia for my job, and many parts of Akron have that same feel of desperation, and hopelessness in the air. I wish Akron the best, but it's not my place anymore.1 point

There are so many ways to stream onto the TV. The ONLY way to fly! As long as we get ESPN3. And not those rinky dink network things they hit us with during OOC1 point

Season prediction poll closed, we will revisit in December. This will be the first December I won't be in Miami for years, so I'm sure the Zips will be playing a bowl game in that area this year. Edit: I guess it could be entertaining (for the 33 voters) to keep running stats as the season progresses. Zips Wins - 0 Warren Ball rushing yards - 0 Reception Leaders - Nobody Defensive sacks - 01 point
