  1. ^^Yawn. I took a peak over there a while back and fans were already growing restless a few games into his tenure after losses to inter-city rivals Robert Morris and Pitt. Get some context Elton, of course Duquesne fans are going to love this compared to what they've dealt with the past 30 years. Being overanalyzed for faults in victory is a sign of a good program. It's natural to want more, especially when those victories weren't leading to anything meaningful in the post season. If you can't handle it, go to a shitty program with no expectations like KD did. I can't remember anyone calling for his head. Shame on us for hoping to raise expectations to something other than a 21+ win season over cupcakes, disappointing MAC-C loss, and inevitable first round NIT/CBI/CIT exit. I guess he's never watched a Buckeye game? People get disappointed if they don't win half of their games by 40+ points. The Steelers just let go of their OC after getting the #2 seed in the conference. Bo Pelini got fired from Nebraska for winning 9 games every year. What was Mike Brown's winning % (the first time he was fired) or David Blatt's when he was let go? I can go on and on.

  2. So what you're telling me is all this time we've been blaming the destruction of the football program and poor attendance on Ianello, when it was possibly related to Segway-Gate?

  5. There were probably a few overcritical posters, but @LZIp hit the nail on the head, all programs with high expectations have them. What was posted on this board was pretty mild compared to what I've seen other fan bases post on the internet.

  6. Will this be the game we get our first road win? To me the keys are how well we shoot. We need to hit our 3 ball around 40% or better. We need to score points in the paint. We outscored Ohio in the paint on Tuesday. We need production from Klac. He is our only true center and he needs to be part of the offense. Utomi is also a key player. He cannot disappear on the road. This team has to play well to win. There is simply not enough experience or talent to win when we play poorly, don't hustle or rebound, or do not shoot the ball well. This team has won 3 out of 4 so they should start playing with some confidence. If they win this game we are squarely in the race for a direct trip to the Q. GO ZIPS!!!

  8. I'm with you, Kreed. I want to give LZip some props for giving a good analysis of how things naturally change when a program starts to become consistently successful. I think maybe he's mellowed a bit from his "I am going to bash Dambrot at every opportunity" post from earlier in this thread. I think one thing is forgotten as the Dambrot banter continues. No matter where we all stand on our satisfaction level, ALL of us share in the disappointment of the MAC title game losses, and ALL of us share in the disappointment that we didn't win an NCAA tournament game during his tenure. Those disappointments are not only felt by those who choose to minimize all of Keith's accomplishments. Those trips back from Cleveland on those Saturday nights were painful. LZip....As a factual correction, I think you should have just checked your "inevitable first round NIT losses" comment. On 3 different occasions, we won first round games and advanced to the 2nd round of the NIT. For those of us who had to endure Akron Basketball between 1989 (Huggins departure) and 2004 (Keith's arrival), those triumphs certainly are not forgotten.

  11. Another interesting fact about the video: These are three of the four St Vincent-St Mary's players to have their numbers retired by the HS. The OTHER is today celebrating the 30th anniversary of his most famous moment! Bill Rafter made it famous with his words: "Send it in Jerome!" http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/25/sports/ncaabasketball/call-by-espn-broadcaster-bill-raftery-on-dunk-by-jerome-lane-still-reverberates.html

  12. In terms of actually scheduling the classes, this should actually make things simpler and easier to look at. The 50 minute classes with 15 minutes between caused weird start times due to classes starting every 1 hour and 5 minutes (7:45, 8:50, 9:55, ...). 75 minute classes allow classes to start every 90 minutes at only the top and bottom of the hour (7:30, 9, 10:30, ...). 3 hour lab sessions also will now fit into the usual time slots instead of just being scheduled seemingly randomly. As other people have said in the thread, it was only intro level courses and specific majors that have ever really scheduled classes on Fridays even before this change. This change is probably negative for science majors, but I can't imagine that they would make the change with no foresight into how they plan on making labs work in the new structure.

  13. Fall Chem labs are far "worse" on Fridays. Friday 2:15-5:00 labs last fall were fully used. Spring chem labs are always a little lighter because not everyone takes Qual, and the Qual meets MW or TR. However, I could see a shift to Friday for many more labs if the scheduling requires it. The big unease about this is that it is not a zero-sum game of time we are playing here. We are indeed losing a day for classes so there will be crunching required to fit in the 25 minutes to add to MW classes that used to be MWF. Could classes start at 7:30 instead of 7:45? Might help along with evening classes starting a little later (5:30 instead of 5:10, for example, to let the daytime classes finish up). It will be interesting to see what happens, for sure. I know that fewer, larger sections of some classes would ease the burden of scheduling somewhat--might as well pack MGH 111 with 255 twice instead of 170 three times if you need to get 510 students through and time is crunched.

  14. Back in the Spring of 2000 I participated in this! I didn't land Zippy, but I did get a call and became a professional Akron mascot....and I got to participate in the Olympic torch relay when it came through Akron on its way to Salt Lake City! What a life achievement!
