  1. I love the script Akron on both the jerseys and football helmets.

  2. We're 2-2 and 0-1 against the MAC. I think we have different definitions of good. Off to another mediocre season, I would agree.

  3. Watching the two scrimmages this summer it was clear why Kato was the QB of choice for the starter spot. In scrimmage #1 Kato was out of control, got briefly demoted, and Ramart came in and stole the show. In in the second scrimmage Kato was in control and his elite athleticism was evident. I thought “If this guy can show up every week, and continue to get better, look out MAC.” Kato still hasn’t proven he can show up every week, and we can’t beat a decent team when he doesn’t. We held on to Tre Chapman at QB too long. He was a great athlete but not a D1 QB. If Kato can’t figure it out this week, we need to move on to plan B. Ramart isn’t the elite athlete that Kato is, but neither was Frye. We need someone with pocket poise, and who can hit open receivers. We beat Northwestern a couple weeks ago, so Buffalo doesn’t scare me. We need to play with poise and purpose and we’re fine. That starts at the QB position.

  4. This is a pivotal game. Lose and MAC Championship hopes are over, as Buffalo will likely come out of the East and will have the tiebreaker over us and a 2 game lead early into conference play. I don't get how we can play so good vs Northwestern and ISU, then lay a giant turd coming off a a bye week vs Miami. The way coach talked, it seems like we are going to give some other guys looks at RB, so its hard to say that won't turn out to be a positive. Van apparently had a good spring/camp, but he looks the same he always has to me, and the stats confirm my thoughts. Hopefully Kato can start throwing like he was a Northwestern. I think Buffalo is solid, but not like Toledo last year or WMU the year before or anything like that. We can definitely beat them. If not, I'd probably be down with some changes, like trying out Ramart. Though I agree he has looked a little shaky in his limited time this season. He could settle with extended playing time. This season could end up going down the gutter if we get embarrassed Saturday/coach refuses to make a QB switch/Ramart underwhelms if there is one. If so, I'd want Larry to force a change. Not necessarily fire Bowden, (as I'm a believer in the defensive staff, the recruiting is getting better every year, and I like continuity) but force his hand to move on from Milwee. The offense is young, but I think most of us can agree there is quite a bit of talent at the skill positions. We need more from that unit.

  5. Thanks for the nice comments. It's great that many of you liked it. I got the call that Jabari would be available to interview at 4 pm on Thursday. So I had about an hour after work to brush up on his career and generate some questions before I drove down to Akron. I almost didn't do it. It would have been a huge mistake not to go. I was able to get 6 minutes of his time prior to his radio interview. When he was done with the segment, he spoke to me for another 25 minutes. I offered a couple times for him to go eat his dinner, but he declined. He seemed genuinely excited to tell his story. When we were done we went back to the dinner table near the bar and someone had covered his meal with a plate to try and keep it warm. He's a super person. It was really uplifting to speak to him and I'm glad I could convey his enthusiasm for UA in the story.

  6. Most of those programs were not at all redundant nor out of demand. UA needs to decide if it is primarily an athletics club that happens to have academic programs or vice versa.

  7. Not quite the same, but we did raise a Zips flag from Akron fans at our tailgate before the Iowa State game. It flew during the tailgate and all through the game until its rightful owners (folks from ZipsNation) came and got it.

  8. Wake me up if we get some production at QB or RB.

  9. He inherited a 1-11 team 7 years ago. That's a lifetime ago in sports. He's now the 2nd longest tenured coach in the MAC. That shouldn't be used as an excuse any longer for the cycle of mediocrity we find ourselves in. We should be in a position to compete for MAC Championships by now. No getting smoked by Toledo last year on national TV doesn't in my mind count as competing. I have been critical of Bowden on this forum, but I am very appreciative that he brought us out of that cycle of being bottom feeders. I just have no faith he can lead us to being top contenders in the MAC, which is what I aspire the program to be. This program just reeks of stagnation.

  10. Couldn't agree more with both thoughts: 1) send Newman to the bench, and 2) give us more Wolfley, he makes good things happen.

  12. I love Bowden. I've grown restless this season because of the cancelled game, early bye and egg laying to Miami. I think we're all afraid, based on the rack record, that the Zips will disappoint us this year (as evidenced by the Miami debacle). But by all accounts, we shouldn't have been in the MACC last year and were. Perhaps we should give them a chance to work this out...and by "we" I am directing a lot of this criticism as myself. Akron is not in any financial situation to be firing coaches. Any changes that will be made to the coaching staff I'd envision would be similar to Kent's recent coaching change. Bowden has brought stability to this program. We're still technically having a good season, and a win this weekend would certainly go a long way to making us look past Miami. Hopefully I will not be eating those words as well...
