  1. Don’t love Arth yet and I may never, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt for now. I backed Terry as hard as I could for as long as I could, but man he lost me fast and I don’t see myself ever missing what he and the program eventually turned into. (Not referring to the division championship, ya buzzards, nor do I have to) The biggest difference that gives me hope right now is that this staff was able to sign a higher-rated class than the previous staff pretty much ever did, and that’s without signing a single player before February. That is pretty amazing whether you are a person who is not cutting the new group any slack because you don’t think Bowden should’ve been fired or not. If you can’t agree with that, I’m sorry, but you might as well go be a Kent State fan. Another difference I see is the lack of FBS coaching experience. The pressure is on like never before, and it helped to have guys like Stroud and Amato here when that group first came in. Their contributions were incredible. That’s the most frustrating thing about this group to me. Off the top of my head, and it’s the last one I’ll list because I can’t think of anymore, I see a team that’s got some fire to it that I haven’t seen in a while. I’m not talking about 3 defensive touchdown fire or wagon wheel fire, I’m talking about desire to play football for 60 minutes. Those early Bowden teams did it, but the last couple of years those teams rarely played hard for 60 minutes. Small thing, but could end up being a big difference maker. Also, rather irrelevant but could help with recruiting, the way this staff uses social media is really cool. It’s like a D1 program. Between the two of them I know of one constant, my love for Akron football. It’s a love I know a lot of people on this board (seemingly not all unfortunately) share with me.

  2. Who'd have thought that at this juncture of the season the only Zip "football" team to win a game/match would be....the Women's soccer team?? Football 0-3, MSOC 0-5. This is not to equate the WSOC schedule, nor their play to the MSOC program, but at 2-5, they actually should be 3-4 and at least 2-4-1. They started the season with a lot of promising recruits, saw two Internationals get injured playing in Europe for their Clubs and not even making it to campus, and then losing 5 women to injuries...so far. Sunday vs. Eastern Kentucky saw some of their best play as they came out of the locker room after a timid display in the first period to dominate in the second and had the Colonels on their heels all afternoon, only to go to OT and lose on a golden goal...with 23 seconds remaining! UGHHHH! Anyway, the soccer s better than in past seasons so far, and there are a number of promising players like Bailee Bowers from Dublin Ohio, And two Irishwomen in Aislinn Meaney and Lucia Lobato, to join veterans Charlie Kale, Carly Pcholinsky, Annamarie Alfery, Ryley Watt and the ever-tough Ashley Amato to name just a few. They play Robert Morris (no Stanford, but still....) Thursday evening at First Energy and hey, all the games are free. FYI ; lots of the AK Rowdies at Pitt were from the WSOC....

  3. MANY, MANY, MANY THANKS to the 17 AK Rowdies who traveled to Pitt to support our Zips Men's Soccer team last night. I watched the game in the standing room area behind our Zips across the field from the stands where you sat among most of the fans (Pitt and Akron), and I could hear you loud and often and well above any Pitt fans. Felt like a home game in Akron. You deserve a huge round of applause from ZipsNation. Our team did not deserve you last night, but you were there throughout that entire mess. Thank you, thank you, thank you. So happy to have done my small part in your efforts, taking your group photo which looks great on your twitter feed. I hope you won't lose the heart and Akron Pride that you showed last night. You were the bright spot that made me Akron Proud last night. Please keep coming to soccer matches. Hopefully, something will "click" soon with our players, and they will again become worthy of your support.

  4. Nicolas Alt has not been seen since the 2nd exhibition match, but I think it may be time to give him a try. I've seen every one of these losses in person and do not ever remember watching such uninspired Zips Men's Soccer. Will no one step up to right this ship? The coaches can only do so much. The players have to take the responsibility for fixing this.

  5. It looks like he has already committed to a lower level school for this season. Maybe a signing for next year? He is also quoted as going to Mott College in this article from July Edit: totally missed that he mentions Mott in his tweet. I still don't think he would be eligible for Akron this season and is probably playing for Mott for one year.

  6. And I'd have to add, the final season saw a coaching staff (not just Terry) that rarely coached hard for 60 minutes...especially the last two losses, capitulating to BG especially, and OU, not to mention the make-up game vs. SC.

  8. LZip has it right. Any of the three bars he mentioned are what you’re looking for, and immediately across the street from the stadium. Lot 9 is the tailgate lot across the street from the bars, at the south end of the stadium. I’ll be there with a Zips flag and a black F-150. Stop by and say hello. Safe travels to the AK.?

  9. Euro Gyro, The Score, and Manny's are bar/grills right across the street from the stadium. The tailgating scene isn't anything to write home about, but we have some die hards. Tailgating lots are literally right next to the stadium as well.

  10. Hard to beat Playstation Vue + ESPN+ for sports (including ACC Network via Vue).

  11. GT apparently thinks we should be encouraged by the Zips second half showings. I tend to think a team does better in the second half in those situations in part because the team ahead lets up knowing that the game is essentially over. As such, I can't get too excited by the team's second half performances.

  12. Our old friend Kreed is right on point. The polling showed the citizens of Summit County didn't want to pay for a new arena and the issue died. I was really looking forward to the Ice Capades, Harlem Globetrotters, a circus that exploited animals, and monster trucks. The JAR is a dump but it's our dump. Sure I'd love another arena and wish some of the money put into the nearly always empty and decaying football behemoth had gone towards an arena or reworking the JAR, but those are worthless wishes. I think the JAR could be revamped into a more workable arena that would promote a better fan experience but that also requires money the university doesn't have.

  13. It's just a shame the Trojans never played in the Rubber Bowl.

  14. Slow, sloppy, uninspired...backline unorganized/confused. Worst Zips soccer I can remember watching.
