  1. He needs to be both, but wisely. Groce wants his point guards to able and willing to hit a long three if left alone. That pulls the defense out and opens the lane. But I agree with everyone's sentiment that LCJ isn't choosing his moment's intelligently and it often looks like he is just chucking it. He should always be considering time and score for starters. We had a point guard at Illinois who when left alone from 5 feet beyond the arc would make teams pay constantly. LCJ is not Brandon Paul. He's not nearly as strong and needs to shorten his range.

  2. Even if hosting high school playoff games isn't a financial plus for the U, I'd hope they'd host AMAP. It's great publicity & great for public relations. Get as many surrounding-community members on campus as possible. I hope the U pulls out all the stops next Friday to give both Hoban and Massillon fan-bases a first-rate, professionally-executed, top-shelf experience. -Every ticket window open and ready for business! -Every concessions stand open and ready for business! -Lots of knowledgeable ushers, everywhere I could possibly look, with smiles on their faces! -All restrooms open, clean and all toilets operational! -More ticket takers than necessary to expedite stadium entry! -Before the game starts make certain the scoreboard and sound system are operational! -Hell, open the InfoCision Zips Team Store! Who knows?! I hate to say it, but my vast experience with UA has me worried they'll be able to pull it off. ? Prove me wrong, UA! This is not the Bush League! This is a big time D-1 college facility! Walk tall, UA! Make me proud!

  5. Class of 2021 Marquael Parks only scored 5 TD's in Orrville's 49 - 27 regional semifinal playoff win over Marion Pleasant at Mansfleild Arlin Field on 11/16/2019 Parks had 238 yards on 20 rushing attempts and scored on runs of 75, 32, 15, and 14 yards Parks also had fumble recovery return for a TD of 32 yards Daily Record article: Big-play Red Riders power past Pleasant to continue state-title defense "In three years — with multiple games left in 2019 if everything goes right — he’s found the end zone 117 times, good for fourth-place in state history unofficially, tied with Hoban’s Tyrell Sutton and Troy’s Ryan Brewer. The junior has plenty of time to scale his way to the top of the record books with a season left to play." - Alex Tichenor/ Staff Writer at The Daily Record "Parks was borderline unstoppable for the second straight playoff game, rushing for 238 yards and four touchdowns, adding a physics-defying catch for 33 yards and scoring his first defensive touchdown of the year. Parks now has 487 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns through two playoff games." - Alex Tichenor/ Staff Writer at The Daily Record

  6. Agreed about the entertainment factor being superior to the men’s brick fest. I watched on ESPN+ and it was a great game!

  7. After deserving the award for at least three out of the previous seven seasons, it is cruelly ironic that Jared Embick is MAC COTY upon turning in his worst season as HC. The answer to fixing MAC Soccer is not to shrink the field of participants, but to add quality provisional members, such as U of Kentucky.

  8. As far as the MAC CotY, my bet is that Jared doesn't find much meaning in it anyway. That award is given before the post season and is only based on Conference games as far as I can tell. It is meaningless. 3 College Cup appearances in 2015, 2017, and 2018 and no MAC CotY award in any of those seasons? ...hahaha. No other MAC coach even comes close to Jared, including 2013, 2014, and 2016. I'm certain 2019 is an anomaly. As far as leaving the MAC, that is one option. The other is to do as buflobo has been touting for sometime...get other good teams, such as Kentucky to join. We already have a Big 12 member in WVU. SIUE joined recently. Last year the MAC had a good RPI. We could build upon it.

  9. I totally agree and love the coach and staff.....but to be honest, and I think Coach would agree, to be named the MAC Coach of the Year is a little bit of an indictment on the MAC as a league. Not many D1 coaches go 6-10-2, even with our OOC schedule, and still win a Coach of the Year Award. These were all his lads, his recruits, and he was never able to get them to consistently play together, hold their shape, especially on Defense, and find the "ideal 11". I know, there were numerous injuries, KEY injuries, but the claim to fame for the staff was the fact that they were able to get these kids to play well enough for 5 matches to win the MAC, a little underwhelming when you think about it. I know this will seem sacrilegious, to many on this board, but understand, my passion is with this team and staff, and mention this only as an honest critique. If we want a more ideal situation, we should petition the MAC to drop men's soccer as a sport and let the 4 REAL MAC member find other homes in larger, more competitive conferences, where we could lessen our need for brutal, on-the-road early-season OOC schedules, and work towards a better strength of schedule and RPI based on our conference. I'm sure there's a Conference out there that would love to have an Akron, with our pedigree, in their mix. Okay, crucify me for my Jared comments....

  10. The best chance the Zips football team has of spolilng anything this year is to have them break into the stadium concession stands prior to their games and unplug the food refrigeration units.
