  1. A lot of chatter here about using the transfer portal more to finish out the class and maybe it should have been utilized more in past years, and I don't necessarily disagree. Jake Spatival, who I would have liked to replace Bowden actually, has taken the total opposite approach. He brought in 20 transfers in his 2020 recruiting class and has yet (even after late signing day) to sign a high school kid in the 2021 class. https://old.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/lc3bhu/at_the_end_of_national_signing_day_the_texas/ That 2020 class full of players who could "contribute right away" got him to a record of 2-10. Put me on record as wanting us to finish out of class with mostly transfers expected to play right away, but Texas State's results thus far are a data point against going all in on the portal.

  3. On a night where Toledo shoots their normal 45-46% FG and 39% on three pointers instead of 50% and 44% and the Zips shoot their normal 46% and 33% instead of 42% and 32% and the Zips make 76% of their free throws instead of 61% , I don't think there's a significant difference between the two. Toledo was sure the better of the two last night but I am not willing to concede they are the clear favorite yet. I think on a neutral floor at the Fieldhouse, I could see the spread at 3, maybe 4, but the teams are pretty close if they both bring their regular games. The first game was more indicative of the talent differential that last night.

  4. I think we are at or past the "some point " stage. Different players, different look, just can't exchange any of the guys this year for Cheese and Banks.

  5. "https://www.ncsasports.org/coronavirus-sports/ncaa-eligibility-coronavirus" I'm not familiar with this website - but assume they're not pulling stuff out of thin air - so it sounds like there will indeed be a H.S. recruiting logjam with players slipping down the food chain of where they otherwise might go. Which would imply that any Zips not performing up to expectations might be shown the transfer vortex and replaced with talented H.S. seniors we might not otherwise be able to get.

  6. I think we are all with you in that a balance has to be struck. Right now we need talent that can improve the team and win a few. We are not getting that with incoming freshmen, but have a chance within the transfer portal. After experiencing a 0-12 season Jake's 2-10 season makes me jealous. Never thought I'd say that! Geesh!

  7. You're a fool if you disagree with Hip Zip in regards to basketball. I just can't believe how weakly Maishe Dailey's been playing. Coming into the season I thought he and LCJ were gonna be a tandem that would send chills down the spines of the MAC. But last night Maishe had 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. I thought he was going to be a 2nd Team All-MAC-type player. If Maishe would play like we know... think... hope he's capable of I'd take our starting 5. But with Maishe essentially being little more than a warm body... yeah. Hip Zips's right.

  8. ? You're almost certainly correct. Otherwise (by my count) of our 24 scholarship recruits, 7 are WR's. I'm sure the Akron Beacon Journal will clarify the issue and give us interesting human interest articles on all our new signees.?
