  1. Just wanted to thank the members of Zipsnation forum for letting an old grandma participate and even agreed with at times. Most of you have treated me as one of the guys. To those of you who disliked me posting here...may the hair on your ganuccies turn to steel wool. Here's hoping for a brighter future for Zip football.

  2. We made it to the end. Thank you @clarkwgriswold for always being on top of it and getting game threads up, and thank you to Zipsnation for giving unreasonably enthusiastic Akron fans like me a place to come discuss this disaster every day. I feel terrible for the coaches and players that are left and have to suffer through this trip. I’d like to say thank you to all the guys that played and coached their asses off all year, whether they were any good or not. At the end of the day, most of the guys still here are coaching knowing they’re about to be out of a job. That sucks. I’m laying 28.5 today, but I’d love to see some fire to end the season on some kind of high note. That was my hope last week, and we know how that went. New coach should be named in a couple of days, the future starts now! Go Zips!

  3. Believe he left as a result of Joe Moorhead getting fired, meaning likely wasn't retained by new staff.

  4. Arth wasn't irrationally fired. We aren't bad at the firing part. We are horrid at the hiring part.

  5. I have a feeling Suckeyes clearing out some coaching staff after this game. Interesting that in some articles RB coach and OC in the mix for Akron HC job. Glad after today, end of a bad era of Akron football with Arth regime and hope we see a news conference next weekend on our new HC. The hot stove should be here soon on top candidates for Akron HC.

  6. I like him. His high school tape was comically good. I think he started the first couple games of the year but then got dinged up, so I think they just made sure he’d have his red shirt status preserved.

  13. As a Marshall fan here is my take on Doc: Good Guy Great recruiter Conservative Play Doc is a great guy but he isn't the dynamic coach that is going to be in the middle of everything. He also will not show any emotion on the sideline unless provoked for it, very stoic. You could be up 30 or down 30 and he will look the same. That can be a plus at times. If Doc was hired at Akron I can almost bet that Akron recruiting wouldn't be 10-12 each year. The guy knows how to recruit and he has for many years. All but 3 of his classes at Marshall was in the Top 3 with 7 at #1 in the conference. The other 3 he was top heavy on the Big Uglies on both lines. If you want a risk taking coach Doc isn't the man. He was mentored by Don Nehlen one of if not the most conservative coaches Ive ever seen. You won't see him going for it on 4th and 3 at your 35 often. He once punted on our own 35 because it was 4th and 7 and our FG kicker had already missed 3 FGs. Lucky for him it was the right call, ball ended up inside the 1 and a safety happened on the next play.

  14. They have Club Hockey which, when I was the trainer, drew more fans than probably 3/4 of the sanctioned sports. It was a good time. As far as starting a regular program, it comes down to money. Start out with scholarship money. How many schollys? Where does the money come from? Multiply that by 2 to stay in compliance with Title IX. An alternative is to go Division 3, which has no scholarships, but there are no D3 opponents in Ohio. So your travel expenses are going to be huge. There are some D1 schools (i.e. Ivy League) that don't have scholarships, and a lot of schools that don't have the max. But can you consistently schedule them? Then you need a rink. The club team plays at Center Ice, near Akron Canton Airport. That's another cost. Add in uniforms, practice time, games, a zillion "nickle and dime" expenses nobody thought of. I'm not saying it can't be done, but there are no rich hockey alumni willing to sign checks for all of those expenses. My suggestion, visit the club team. Take in some games. These guys have been playing hockey a big part of their lives, are AU students in good standing, and put on a good show. The league is competitive. I've had a lot more fun at (club) hockey games than I have at most football games I've been to. So their families are paying the bills instead of the university, when the puck drops I seriously doubt you'll notice a difference. 😎 http://www.zipshockey.com/ https://linktr.ee/AkronIceHockey https://www.blastathletics.com/video_links/19876

  18. 20+ yard TD run on what would have been the last play of the game to lose against the spread. Unbelievable.

  19. I just want to give a shout out to the Zips Media person/team. They have had very little to work with all season but day after day, week after week, they put up posts on twitter and Instagram trying to keep people interested, motivated and engaged. Again a very challenging task given what they have available for content. Great work - Happy Thanksgiving all. Also saw for the first time yesterday Scott Van Pelt commentary called "Bad Beats". Seems like Akron football has several appearances this year and Akron basketball was featured when they lost to Ohio State.
