Oddly...I don't think you missed a ton. I think Irons looks good. He throws the ball on a rope. Our DL didn't give him much pressure, so it is tough to determine if his ball security bug-a-boos are in the past. I have to believe a P5 transfer, or a "Dalton Williams 2.0" will be brought in as insurance...or perhaps to start. If we had to rely on Jankowski for any stretch of time in 2022, I'm not too confident we beat anyone outside of Saint Francis. Maybe we could...but it would be a huge risk entering the season with him as our #2. For the most part the OL fended off the DL. It's to be expected with the Freshman becoming Sophs, and our DL running the aforementioned vanilla schemes. No one seemed to get hurt. That's a big plus! Cory Smigel gets game MVP. He may hit some FG's from 41 or even 42 yards this season? 😉 No big, game-breaking runs. It does look like we'll be 4-deep in the backfield. No RB looked slow, or overmatched. I think the coolest thing was seeing the former players approach Coaches Ferri and Moorhead after the game and wish them well. Lots of warm hugs, smiles and well-wishes from the former players invited to show up. It was a great homecoming for those guys. I think the biggest concern going into the fall will be the DL. Not due to anything gleaned from the game...it's just the way it is. It was just fun to watch some Zips football amongst a "packed house." 🙂

Not going to pin this one as it doesn’t fit the territory requirements, but how about QB Justin Rogers? I believe JoeMo offered him out of high school, so there is probably some type of relationship there. He hasn’t quit lived up to his potential and would fit this offense perfectly. Want to give a few days for the dust to settle for the May 1 deadline so that the NCAA can update the portal and 247 can update theirs then I'll post an update of where we appear to be to see what were able to add before fall camp. I have to imagine activity in the portal will slow down quite a bit until the season as players will now have to sit out this upcoming year if they have not yet entered.

Zippy should be reinvented along with the logo. The "Barney" act alike mascot has to go. Needs to be a bad ass Kangaroo that scream "Fear the Roo". The happy go lucky zippy has no place in this new era.

Zippy is an amazing mascot-- off the charts, best in class (not just a statement but an actual designation that Zippy won). It is perhaps the single best known and loved element of UA in the community. I think the branding should revolve around "Akron" because that is who we are and no one knows us well- abstracting a little known brand is a terrible idea. I also think the nickname "Zip" is terrible and frankly has always been embarrassing. The only good thing about it was Zippy the mascot. Putin is going to do all he can to corrupt "Z" and make it a symbol of evil in the world. They are using it throughout Russia to rally them to this horrific cause-- and the Russian people are responding. It would be the height of branding stupidity of the highest order to use "Z" as a symbol right now. After Russia is crushed, it will just be confusing and weird so to me still reason to not overly focus on it. Make it AKRON. And make it known.
