It’s not decided by fan vote. Winning the fan vote at this semi finalist stage is equivalent of one first place committee vote. Which is then narrowed to the final three. Those final three are then voted on by the committee to decide the winner. It’s cool you don’t care, just replying to clarify.4 points

I think a significant number of us have been sseing that. Akron can do nothing to change the direction of DI football.Lets stop talking about basketball. Its a different world. For god's sake a a major university just hired $ Bill Belichick as its HC. He hired Ernie Lombardi as his GM! $ Bill said he was going to run UNC like a professional football team. There is no reason for teams at the MAC level to play or be connected with programs like that. We can hem and haw all we want about what we think would make Akron football consistently competitive where it stands now. Given the current state of the University overall, especially financially there is little reason to believe that the Administration is going to make a bigger commitment to football specifically or to athletics generally. Its time for athletics programs at the MAC level to either collectively or individually go a different direction. By the way, do we have a new AD yet?3 points

I imagine there's a bit of a trickle down effect unfortunately. Probably not going to have many players commit here until they realize they aren't getting money elsewhere.2 points

We’re getting an official visit from LB Markus Boswell. Looks like he was a 2024 prospect that went to a prep school this past season (similar to Benenge).2 points

To add on to what @LZIp said, we also need to get these guys on campus. If we’re following the rules like schools should be, the earliest contact could be made was Monday - unless they were grad students who had already entered the portal. This isn’t meant to take a shot at NIU, but I’d rather not be sitting here with 4 DII signees. I’m sure a few will pan out, but if we’re looking for higher quality all-MAC type players, most of those come from P4 and high school recruits that have been developed. Here’s the All-MAC breakdown of recruiting classes from 2022, 2023, & 2024: P5 = 24 G5 = 5 FCS = 12 DII or Lower = 5 HS = 23 JUCO = 6 I did not count a player twice. So players like Nunnally, who made it two years in a row, was only counted once towards JUCO.1 point

Travis Hunter won the Biletnikoff Award for best WR. Meanwhile, San Jose State's Nick Nash was the WR Triple Crown King this year leading the nation in Receptions, Receiving Yards, and Receiving Touchdowns. College Football delivered the proverbial "nail in the coffin" message to G5s with their awards: they don't want G5s anymore.1 point

Emmer Lancaster was the first African American graduate of the Municipal University of Akron. Dr. Lancaster began his education at @uakron in 1918 and was a member of the baseball, track, and debate teams. He graduated with an A.B. (Bachelor of Arts) in 1921. While his education experience at UA is remarkable in its own right, it is his career after he graduated and his commitment to small and minority owned businesses in Akron and across the country is why we are celebrating him and his accomplishments. From 1940 to 1968 he served as Special Advisor to the Secretary of Commerce concerning blacks in small businesses. While he was in Washington D.C., he would travel to New York City once a week to attend classes at NYU, where he earned his Masters of Science in Retailing. Also during his time in Washington D.C., Dr. Lancaster instituted “business clinics” around the country to help African American business persons construct business plans and expand profitable enterprises that created jobs. Under the auspices of the Commerce Department, Lancaster organized several national conferences to help African American businesses in America. The conferences helped with strengthening business curriculums at historically black colleges and universities; communicating detailed information about government services available to them; assisting with submitting proposals for government contracts; and providing opportunities to meet and learn from the more successful black entrepreneurs in the country. Due to his work, many African Americans became entrepreneurs who might not have otherwise; many existing entrepreneurs became larger and more successful; and many African Americans became gainfully employed who may not have had opportunities otherwise. After retiring, Dr. Lancaster returned to Akron and became active in the community until he passed away in 1984. In 1971, The University of Akron awarded Dr. Lancaster the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws “in recognition of his significant leadership in legal and social progress and understanding.” (📷 - UAkron Libraries)1 point
