  1. not only that but the guy goes to almost every home game no matter what sport it is. i agree with inthezone on this, that guy had just as big of a part in that championship as the people who were actually on the field.
  2. still, i'd rather see us play a caliber team like them and lose then some chicken shit team that can't played. we need the experience playing the big teams to become a big team, and they're just another rung on the ladder that we need to pass to get to the top where we want to be.
  3. i got to see a couple of those in person and they are NICE! i admit i am a little jealous, but those guys deserve them one hundred percent! i especially like the part on the side that has the score: Akron 31, NIU 30 :macc: :macc: :macc:
  4. i'm not going to say that he deserved the promotion or not. but i willl say i like what mack has in store for us and his vision of where we should be. i really buy into that. now, uam is a great guy and it is too bad to see him, but maybe it's just that he wants to stick around mike thomas.

    Rifle

first of all... riflebusdriver -> <- mesecond of all, those suits we wear are thick (usually) canvas pants and jackets. they are designed to be extremely rigid, providing stiffness and support while shooting. the pants provide additional back support for standing, which is necessary because in order to maintain balance holding a 13 lb. rifle you must have a little back bend. shooting without any type of bacCan't Statepport will eventually mess up your back pretty bad. the suits with the addition of the under garments also provide pulse suppression. now, they are stiff (my pants could stand up by themselves when i first got them) but it's not what makes us shoot high scores. it's not like anyone can throw on a suit and suddenly be olympic caliber. they mearly minimize the small twitches and movements that the body naturally makes. there are also specific rules on how thick the canvas, how tightly the jacket can be buttoned, and the types of under garments that can be worn. underneath you see a lot of shooters wearing spandex or breathable under armour type stuff. the rules say that under the pants nothing with a fly (dress slacks or jeans) can be worn. because of the layers and how heavy the outer suits are, shooters need something that will make it easy to get in and out of the suits as well as wick away sweat to keep them cool. then over the spandex usually goes a shooting sweater. most sweaters have a double zipper, padded elbows, some type of breathable weave, and are nice and thick to suppress pulse. shooting in a jacket without a sweater can be tough, because inside the suits are rough and can rub weird (i had bloody knuckles for the first week in my new jacket from trying to get my arm in). as far as what is underneath, that's personal preference for the shooter. as you use your suits more, you break them in to a comfortable level, and eventually after several year they'll be worn out. if taken care of properly they can last a long time. any other questions?
  6. i don't know...on one of the message boards they (Can't) were talking about making a bunch of little signs that would form one big screw the roo covering an entire section. i know, i know, unoriginal, but i'll find it humorous if they actually try it and get theirs taken away as well
  7. he came down and met with our team. i must say he's a great guy and i buy into his vision of akron athletics.
  8. is there a list out here of the fan board sites for the other mac schools? thanks
  9. i've been wondering about this too. i don't think they can do much, and whatever they try we'll be too loud and drown out whatever useless chant they come up with. seems pointless to worry about
  10. oregon is beautiful and i love the state, but not my family...lol. my other option was ole miss, and i like akron a LOT better than ole miss. it's not that different, just a little colder here and the rivers are cleaner back home. :thumb:i think now a lot of oregon people hate ohio state because of the bcs bowls this year and university of oregon getting a snub even with having a better record (but i'm not going to touch the strength of schedule discussion here)
  11. i watched the game from my hotel room, and it did look a lot bigger. i also got everyone at home to watch the game, and they didn't think it looked as crappy as i described.
  12. i have never been an ohio state fan, but that's mainly because i'm from oregon. when i came here i was disgusted with the amount of support students gave osu and how little they gave their own school. since i have come to school i have hated osu more and more, and the next time someone asks why i would waste my time with akron and not go to ohio state, i'll just give them a few choice words.go zips!
  13. i watched the game from my hotel room (actually our entire team was), and the rowdies looked good. i loved the bald caps, and the only thing i was disappointed in was that we couldn't hear the good cheers over the commentary.
  14. you gotta be shitting me...
  15. i agree with this. ced is one of my favorite player because he can create something if need be. and when he does have to dribble into the forest he can get a decent shot off, and isn't just throwing up crap. i like the idea of him penetrating then kicking it out, but i'm not sure to who. it seems like everyone on our team is capable of shooting the three except for romeo.
  16. too bad we still don't have mcfadden, that guy was clutch!
  17. yeah, well the team's dirty laundry doesn't need to be aired. it's something they're going to have to work out, and if there's a big problem then the guys need to discuss it with their coach and as a team. crap like this happens with every team and if they can overcome it it will only make them stronger.
  18. there is talent on our team, but our girls just don't play together. i don't understand why some of the freshmen don't play more, they actually take the ball to the hoop and try to do something. we also have a bit of size, but don't use it. they should be pounding it inside then kicking it back out to the open wings if needed. we were throwing up a lot of junk, but the few ak-rowdies that were there really pissed the Can't fans off.
  19. check ebay, i think i saw one out there the other day. also the bookstore carries a couple different akron ties including one that has the athletic kangaroo on it.
  20. most rifle shooters are not in great athletic shape (myself included), but if you look at who's at the top of the game they all are (which i admit i am not in the elite). they do just as much "motion" off the range as other athletes on the field. shooters have to be strong to be able to hold a 13 lb. rifle perfectly still, and do it several times over a few hours. that takes conditioning in the gym. to be able to have perfect breathing technique and shoot in between heartbeats reqires good cardio training. so, even though shooters need to run and lift like every other athlete, they shouldn't be considered athletes because they try not to move during competition? i'm also going to have to correct you here. the ncaa says that a rifle team can have a maximum of 3.6 schoarships to hand out, however it takes 4 people to field a team. then when you look at our school they don't even give us the full 3.6. my freshman year we go 2.0 scholarships, and that was split between 7 or 8 girls. this year i believe we have one more scholarship, and because of the way the proportions are in the athletic department we were able to give some of that to the guys. basically, no one on our team gets a full ride, and no school that i know of gives out full rides either. knowing that a lot of shooters make up for the money they know they won't be getting through academic money. hope that help clarify some things. i never said title ix was fair, because it's not.
  21. Well obviously it didn't give them much exposure because neither I nor about 99.9 percent of anybody else had a damn clue about any of those teams. I can tell you who the national powers in hockey and wrestling are though. And our softball and volleyball teams have thousands of fans??? I've been to softball games. I was there with a few parents. I have walked through the jar during a volleyball match. There were maybe 10 people in the stands. Give me a break . And I'm not the one that brought up cutting those sports either. You were. I just say don't add any other useless sports to appease that pos Title IX which has been amended. And also, not saying this to be offensive, but rifle is not a sport. It's a skill, but definately does not take "athletic" talent. Riflers are not athletes. Any competition in which men and women can compete is not an "athletic" competition. Genetics can tell you that. Rifle should be dropped from the athletic department and the budget and get funding from another department of the school. Also, there is absolutely no reason why anyone on the rifle team should have a scholarship. What a waste of school money!!! first things first...hockey and wrestling? i couldn't name the top 10 in either. my point is that each sport has its own following and fan base. there are thousands of people that follow softball and volleyball, know who's the favorite to win the next ncaa championship, who made the olympic team etc. i wasn't saying specifically that akron's teams have thousands of fans, i'm saying that just because you don't follow a sport doesn't mean others don't too. you can't group everyone together just for that reason. now for the second topic...well you're wrong. if you want more information on why shooting is a sport look in some of the other rifle threads. rifle informationthere's plenty of information there, and if you don't want to look at it that's fine too. if you ever want to come down to one of our practices to see exactly what we do, you're more than welcome to. i'll even let you shoot my gun one more thing, as far as who deserves what for scholarship money, well athletes work for the money they get. playing their sport is their job, and they can put in just as many hours as the "regular student" flipping burgers. on top of that, athletes are expected to do well in the classroom, and are often held to a higher standard.
  22. i agree. we get some good cheers but our rowdies section isn't always together. one of the games each end was chanting something else...lol...it'd be nice to have like a cheering practice to get everyone on the same page.i like the romeo chant, but think it should be limited to saying twice.
  23. they actually kind of already have this. they have a forensics team (speech and debate), but that could still use some improvement
  24. ice hockey or wrestling?! you got to be joking! you really think that there would be a huge following for those sports? wow. you underestimate the sports you're talking about. thousands of people follow softball and volleyball, so why cut those programs? because we're not nationally ranked? by that theory then we should have cut football years ago. if we build stronger teams we will get the recognition. example: nebraska has a bowling team and they've won 2 national championships. it doesn't stop there either, they have a gymnastics team that has produced individual champions, a rifle team that took third at ncaa's last year, and a golf team that has produced several conference titles and all-americans. does that mean that they're a waste of time and money? no, they gave their school bragging rights and national exposure. the university of akron would take a national championship title in any sport, not just the ones with more "interest."
