  1. i got my ticket... leaving out of cak at 6am thurs and arriving in pdx @ 10:45am. cutting it a little close, but i'm sure i'm going to be fine. i don't even know if i have a ticket to the game yet. *fingers crossed* hope i get the phone call tomorrow.
  2. look for any hotel near the light rail and you can take the light rail from the air port to the hotel, and from the hotel to the rose garden. tons of stuff to do and see in downtown. you don't need a car, especially if you don't mind walking a couple of blocks to eat, shop, etc. i'll be staying in salem with my dad
  3. it's marked as sold out, so i assume after each school sells their allotment, there is nothing more... unless you're going to get on ebay...
  4. To answer the question, yes it is winnable. On any given day, the Zips can beat any team in the tournament.I'm not so concerned about the Zips traveling west. I'm concerned that Gonzaga can take a bus from their campus to Portland. Spokane is more than 350 miles from Portland. Spokane is located in the Eastern Mountains of the State of Washington and most of the trip from Spokane to Portland will not be on a major highway. They may have a far shorter distance. But, the trip is not a piece of cake.ummm... yeah it is a piece of cake trip. made that drive several times while heading to northern idaho and montana.
  5. i was just going to ask this.
  6. yeah, but you can just hop on the max (light rail) and avoid parking altogether. portland is a nice city.
  7. I'm fortunate to have rung up enough frequent flyer miles to cover the trip, so I don't have to pay the high fares. What I saw in my brief search through available flights is that there are no bargains for Portland, but there are some to Seattle. Hilltopper and I have decided to drive to Detroit (3 hours) and catch a direct flight to Seattle. It's less than a 3-hour drive from Seattle to Portland. The best prices I saw were Columbus to Seattle. It includes a couple of connections, but prices out around $400.got room for one more?
  8. i'm trying to get my dad to fly me out to "visit" but he's not having any of it... he knows i only want to go for the game
  9. tickets on ebaytickets on craigslist
  10. there was a small paragraph on the second page of the sports sectionstory
  11. no not good. it is actually ironic for me. gonzaga, my mom's (who i can't stand) alma matter playing against my school an hour from my hometown. i'd make a bet with the woman, but that would require me to make contact with her.
  12. i saw that too. he just jumped into the huddle like he was one of them. then when he was on the block waiting for the free throw, he was talking to the buffalo player. i'd bet money it had something to do with the huddle thing.
  13. The MAC does not allow it. They put all the security guards in the building in front of the main group of Akron fans. All the security guards in the building were not in front of the main group. They were EVERYWHERE. I tried several different places to get down, and they had multiple security guards at EVERY turn. I have never seen security so tight at any sporting event. It burns me to watch highlights today of every other conference's students getting to rush the floor.they were assholes about it too. i was in the upper section and slowly made my way down and waited. finally when all the cleaning crews were out i was able to just walk down to the floor by the bench. by that time though, they were clearing everyone out. i can kind of understand preventing a student rush of the floor, but to not even let the families of the players out on the floor was absolutely ridiculous.
  14. some pictures:
  15. no, TCU's Mattie Brogdon took 7th and was the only other woman in the finals.
  16. want to see improvement? in her first match she shot a 556/600, for the NCAA qualifier she shot a 587/600, and for the NCAA championship she shot a 590/600.
  17. I am more than just pumped for this game, I'm pumped that we have our second National Champion. Winning tonight would just be icing on the cake.GO ZIPS!!!
  18. i got invited down below lebron, but since i'm driving up alone (and am a light weight) i'm not sure how much pregaming i can do
  19. screen shot from the live feed of Jenna accepting her 1st place award.
  20. according to the NCAA website, the first NCAA rifle championship was in 1980 and Tenn Tech won the team title.source
  21. if i remember correctly, winning gives her an automatic appointment on the national team... or maybe that's the national development team. anyways, she will have future opportunities to train under the national coach and compete for our country. the door is now open for her to possibly be representing the us in the olympics some day.
  22. resultsIT'S OFFICIAL... JENNA COMPTON IS THE 2009 NATIONAL AIR RIFLE CHAMPION!!! she beat out second place by 6 tenths of a point in the final!
  23. just checked the live results and the final results are not in yet, but it appears that in the preliminary Jenna Compton shot the second highest score with a 590/600 setting a school record and sending her into the final in one point out of first!!! for those who are not familiar with the sport, each competitior shoots a preliminary round course of fire. then the top 8 individuals shoot a 10 shot final, which is then added to the preliminary score and a winner is declared. in the final, the competitors have to 75 seconds to shoot each shot and are stopped in between shots. after each shot their scores are then read out loud to the crowd until the 10 shots have been fired. also in the final, each shot is scored to a tenth of a point instead of the whole points in the preliminary, making it very easy to make up the distance (or lose ground) on other competitors.
  24. as I said before, I'm fairly certain (and still trying to find a good source to nail this down and cite) that the first NCAA rifle championships were in 1980, and before the NCAA took over the collegiate national championships it was the NRA that put it on. That would make her the first NCAA participant, but not the first college national match competitor.
