NCAA second round vs. South Florida
zippyrifle32 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
And along the bench side fence line there were several people sitting in the trees to watch. -
Portland a potentially dangerous team. Clevelander Michael Green (The Dark Thunder as he likes to call himself) set up UNM's goal but the Pilots stormed back late, scoring with 6 minutes to play in regulation to set up OT. There are some VERY good second round matchups, like Portland travelling to NCSU; Maryland @ Penn State (good luck to the Lions -- please knock out the defenders!); and UCSB travelling to San Diego to take on the Toreros. On the Left side Stanford @ Irvine; St Louis going to Tulsa; seeded Butler playing @ Hoosierland. All these visitors have good chances of victory. Portland has both their men's and women's teams in the tourney and I believe the women are in the semi'sYes the Pilots are a venerated program And they are the Flushes of the NW -- but next year look for the Portland State Viks to win it all! Women for sure, but men might have a tough time getting past Akron, especially since they'll have to start a men's team between now and next season. Spoken like a PSU alum! To an Oregonian.LOL! I don't even go into that argument. I have several classmates at both schools.

you beat me to posting this.

I'm sorry, but we're #1 and it's not even close. 20 wins, no loses, no ties, two total OT for the ENTIRE SEASON. We played (and beat) a lot of ranked teams... I would be shocked and angry if we didn't get #1... on the other hand it is the NCAA, so I'm buying some lube today in case we do get screwed. Hopefully it will make it easier to take this year...

They rotate around every year. There are certain range size requirements that must be met for a team to qualify as a host venue... and Akron's range is too small. Plus, more and more schools are going to electronic targets so without those, a school won't get a chance to host either.

smallbore scores are still WAY too low to make the NCAA tourney. IF anyone qualifies this year, it would be an individual in the air rifle event. The air scores are getting closer to where they need to be, but overall as a team just a smudge too low to get the team there. One or two people could put on a good show during qualifications and make the trip to TCU in March.

Bunbury vs. Zakuani
zippyrifle32 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I do not believe Teal is even close to winning the Hermann trophy. He is a dangerous player and he scores goals. However, if you watch him during games, he is a blackhole with the ball. He either gets a shot or loses the ball; he rarely looks to set up his teammates. With Zakuani, you knew you were going to get a dangerous ball on goal almost every time he touched the ball. With Teal, it is hit or miss. Additionally, he has very little in the way of "moves." He beats defenders simply because he is faster and bigger than them. Individually, Teal is a great player. However, at the level Akron is playing, he could make them far better by looking to pass more than he does. If he were to start playing balls the way Nano and Ampi do, I would fully support his Hermann candidacy.Teal isn't even on the Herman watch list, so he's not going to get it. Ampi is though. -

Reggie's Interception Highlight -
if they want to go to the ncaa's as a team they need to start having 4 people consistently shoot 580's or better in both guns. There is a little more leeway with smallbore, but 560's smallbore and 570's air rifle isn't going to cut it. I would also put my money on tOSU beating Akron in the shoulder to shoulder. Since they have become fully funded, they've pulled in some real hot recruits, while recruiting is not Newt's strong point. He's gotten real lucky with what he has, but he doesn't aggressively go after the top prospects.

I cannot attend due to class (can't skip either) and have a GA ticket that someone could have if they want. I only have one, and first come first serve. GO ZIPS!

Jacquemain Update & a Coach Is Suspended w/Pay

The athletic department can't withdraw his scholarship money. If he was say a freshman, they could choose to remove him from the team and then not renew his scholarship the following year, but they can't send him a bill for tuition in the middle of the semester. That's NCAA stuff. -
i must have missed your post :/ the second schedule is the accurate one according to gozips.com

Athletes with a book scholarship have to fill out a form listing all of their books, isbn, name, sport, etc, and they return the books directly to the book store. The book store then sends paperwork/bill to compliance if there are any books missing. If you turn your books in late it's a bit of a paperwork headache fro Klotz, and you turn in your late book directly to him to return to the book store.

I nominate for a best of zipsnation post. Dr. P with the Rowdies... nothing but classic

I'd rather see the "rifle is not a sport" comment banned first. The schedule and their roster are never up in time, especially since their first matches are usually the first or second week of October. From what I've gathered from other schools' posted schedules (home are in bold and unsure matches are in italics):10/3-4/09 MAC Tournament @ Navy10/10/09 vs. John Jay College 10/17/09 @ Morehead State University10/18/09 vs. West Virginia University11/7/09 vs. University of the Sciences in Philadelphia 11/21/09 vs. Ohio State University1/17/10 @ Palmyra Invitational2/07/09 @ Ohio State University 2/12-14/10 NCAA Qualifiers @ Ohio State University2/20/10 WIRC Championsihps @ Michigan State University3/6/10 MAC Championships @ Coast Guard 3/10-14/10 NCAA Championships @ Texas Christian University

old, I know the sound lags from the video, and the quality is not the best...but behold head coach Newt Engle singing some Johnny Cash!

to be fair, I was sitting near a group of either music majors, music groupies, or former band members. I overheard them talking about Karricker (sp?) and some talk about practicing etc. However, the student section I was in did jump right in when they started the cheers and chants so... I don't know...
