I think Xeyrius got snubbed on 1st team all defense. The dude is a difference on the interior with his help defense.

Assessing Coach Arth (and his staff)
kreed5120 replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
Funny he mentioned Clemson retaining their staff because last I checked nobody still wants their unpaid intern ?. Even I-Coach was good enough to land a position coach job after his disaster at Akron. -
TBS/CBS would prefer fans at the game I'd imagine. the 20k in attendance instead of watching games on TV doesn't even move the needle in ratings. Large crowds create an atmosphere that makes games more exciting to TV viewers.

I'm just looking forward to the 30 for 30 that they will be releasing in 2045 for this "One Silent Moment"
-
Unless a place is advertising that they're showing the game, I wouldn't bother
-
I'm on self quarantine until the 23rd. I'm not showing symptoms, but my company told everyone to work from home for the next two weeks and I just want a break from people. Get off my lawn
-
Two weeks without a game I'd think would hinder our chances of pulling off an upset as we'd be rusty.

If the MAC decides to play the tournament without fans, that would be a huge advantage to NIU if we face them. Their players are use to playing in empty arenas ?

Tracking 2019-20 Zips Men's Hoops in the Polls
kreed5120 replied to RowdyZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Yes, the long storied 4 year tradition has been cancelled. I'm sure the Harvard team and their fans are a little upset. They beat Yale 2x this year and they were the ones that were hosting the tournament this year. -
I just missed him being on, but from the brief recap it doesn't sound like it.

Tracking 2019-20 Zips Men's Hoops in the Polls

Yale, Liberty, and ETSU have all clinched their conferences tourney bid. Akron probably needs at the very least for SFA to lose to have a hope at the 12 seed. Preferably both SFA and Vermont. -
PCCC hasn't won 4 games in a row since November back when they were playing cupcakes. I don't see them suddenly doing it in March. Edit: I'm guessing Ball State is the team that comes out of the other side of the bracket. They play the best defense in the MAC and defense travels.

You wouldn't see re-seeding for the semi's because of the quick turnaround. The last quarterfinal game may end at near midnight. They aren't going to turn around and make that team play again 17 hours later. That's why the winner of the noon game plays the winner of the ~2:30 game. Both teams get 24+ hours of rest between games.

We went 2-0 against then and they think we're scared? Sure, I would have preferred playing CMU as we could have beaten them without having to break a sweat.
-
Ohio MAC schools went 4-0 last night and all 6 made it to Cleveland.
-
It makes our half of the bracket easier as Buffalo is better than NIU. We still got to take care of business Thursday.
-
I'm just cheering for the OU/CMU game to turn into an 8 OT thriller. We want whoever we play to have tired legs.

Akron looks like a pretty heavy Vegas favorite to win the MAC tournament. Akron +145 Ball State +500 Bowling Green +600 Buffalo +600 Kent +700 Toledo +1000 Ohio +1500 EMU +5500 CMU +6000 Miami +7500 WMU +7500

I think you're overlooking the fact that the Chipps started MAC play going 6-2 in their first 8 games, but finished 7-11. That means they went 1-9 down the stretch. I'm definitely buying Ohio winning that game. That being said, I'm not sure why people are scared about Ohio in Cleveland. I've seen them blow numerous double digit 2nd half leads this MAC season. They just don't perform well under pressure, which is what a single elimination tournament is all about. I think they will be great if Boals keeps them together in the next year or two, but right now they're too inexperienced. Lunardi is one of the worst bracketologists out there. Bracketmatrix tracks 107 brackets per year and usually Lunardi places in the 70s or 80s when it comes to how close his bracket matches up with the committees. There are literally people who do their brackets as a hobby on wordpress that are better than Lunardi at predicting the field. Lunardi just gets the notoriety that he does because he works for ESPN.

There really doesn't seem to be much separation between Akron and Vermont in the bracketmatrix. Obviously it would just be best for them to lose to eliminate all doubt, but we might be able to leap them anyways. Akron will be picking up better quality wins by winning its tournament than Vermont will be by winning theirs. -
I don't see us attracting athletes like Xeyrius as true freshmen. At least not on a consistent basis. I think under Groce we'll always utilize transfers and juco to some degree. You almost have to if you want to be successful as a mid-major in todays college landscape.

Outside of Zeke what coveted recruit did Dambrot get? Did Big Dog even have an offer outside of Akron? If anything I'd say Groce is known more as the recruiter. Dambrot just had a nice plug and play system and found under the radar guys that fit it and developed them. Part of why Buffalo had our number in the tournament is they had more athletically gifted players. Groce has brought those same type of players to Akron.

Personally, I feed off the tears of sad Kent fans. Please keep the crying coming.
