  1. Have to give it to the poster who last week said LCJ was in the running for MAC POY. He should be getting his second straight POW honor as he put up a stat line of 22.5 7.5 2.5 this week. I still think Xeyrius is the best player on the team, but LCJ is the motor that gets the offense running.
  2. For some unexplainable reason we seem to always struggle when we have to go to DeKalb.
  3. Xeyrius just said Akron's esports program played a part in him choosing Akron.
  4. Why are we guarding teague at the 3 point line? He's a .250 3p% shooter. Play off of him and dare him to shoot. He's blowing past our bigs on the drive.
  5. You can find a stream here. https://www.reddit.com/r/ncaaBBallStreams/comments/en0d2o/game_thread_akron_vs_ball_st_0900_pm_est/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
  6. Tipoff pushed back to 9:10 because of Buffalo/Miami game ?
  7. I went looking for it earlier. Titanic Hoops had their twitter handle shutdown for what I'm guessing was copyright infringement.
  8. We do seem much more athletic, which should help our chances in Cleveland. It's tough to win 3 games in 3 days when your best player is pushing 300 lbs. I still feel the one weakness this team does have is we don't have a good back to the basket post scorer. It's not that we need it to be a focal part of the offense, but when we're going through a shooting slump and the other team is going on a run, it would be nice to be able to dip the ball down low and get an easy 2 every now and then.
  9. Are you saying some school is going to pay him to come play for them because he's certainly not going to make it in the NBA? If he wants to play in Europe of somewhere playing in Akron won't hinder him. We have tons of players overseas and they don't seem to care where you went to school. Players are paid based off how they perform. If he's transferring it's probably because he either wants to go someplace that has a better grad program for what he wants to go to school for or because he wants to experience an NCAAT tournament run. Playing somewhere closer to home I guess would be another possibility. Personally, I have him penciled in an Akron uniform for next season because he has one year of eligibility remaining. I'll have him there until he says he no longer wants to be here. I can't begin to guess what's going through his head nor know what his priorities are.
  10. Akron has 3 players who are all in the running for 1st team All-MAC (X, Cheese, & LCJ). That doesn't even count Banks who is leading the MAC in 3P% and is one of, if not the best, perimeter defender in the MAC. I doubt we get 3 1st teamers, but I'd expect all 3 to make 1st or 2nd team. Edit: Had Xeyrius not gotten into foul trouble and had to sit a large chunk of the 1st half and the majority of the 2nd, we'd probably have beaten WMU by 25+.
  11. I see Cleveland is hosting an 11 vs. 6 game. It would be fun to play a tournament game there. I doubt Akron climbs that high as that would be above the bubble line, which would probably require Akron going something like 17-1 in MAC play. Odds are even if we were awarded an 11 seed, the committee would probably send us to one of the other sites as I doubt they'd allow a 6 seed to play what would amount to being a road game.
  12. If only the JAR sold alcohol...
  13. The two 13 seeds listed above us both lost to pretty bad teams since that was last updated. We'd be a borderline 12 seed as of today IMO.
  14. It's been a long work week. I need to know who his bartender is.
  15. Akron listed as 4 point favorites.
  16. I wouldn't hold your breathe waiting. We still owe about 20 years on Infocision.
  17. I think it would have been fun to field a better team to contend with Buffalo last year. For years Dambrot complained about how the decks always stacked against us because nobody good would ever come play at the JAR. There was actually for once a team last year in the MAC that would have given us a crack to get up to 2 tournament resume building wins. I heard over the years people saying they wanted Akron to become the Gonzaga of the east. People overlook another WCC that has capitalized off of Gonzaga's success to become one of the best mid-majors in the country. That team would be St. Mary's who used some wins over Gonzaga to help catapult them. Those two teams emerging also helped attract BYU to the conference, which made the conference even better. I'd love to see the MAC become a multi-bid league.
  18. Bart Torzik gives Akron a 64.1% percent of winning the MAC outright and a 79% of winning/sharing it...Akron MAC champs confirmed ? http://www.barttorvik.com/conodds.php?conf=MAC
  19. I honestly wish we could be playing Buffalo and Toledo now. Both teams seem to be bottoming out at the moment, but I expect both to improve as the season progresses.
  20. Kwan gets a bad rap because he was a streaky shooter, but his overall numbers were still really good from behind the arc. He shot .384 his senior season and .351 from behind the arc for his Akron career. @zippy5 is correct that he's the closest we had, but I don't think he's quite as gifted as Xeyrius is.
  21. Just in general Dambrot didn't field athletic teams. We won by playing hard nose D and finding players who fit into his system on offense. We certainly never had any 6'9 bigs would could run the court and handle the ball like Xeyrius.
  22. I falsely assumed we were all old geezers on this board who have learned to temper expectations that way we could limit disappointment. Apparently we have some young bloods who aren't use to having their heart broken. Give him 3-5 years of Akron fandom. He'll soon learn what it means to be an Akron fan.
  23. I'm in agreement with you. We're currently Liberty's best win and even with their 16-1 record they have 0 votes in the coaches poll and only 2 votes in the AP poll. If we beat 2 of Louisville, Liberty, and WVU we'd be serious at-large bid contenders. We didn't and aren't contenders so our only chance of punching a ticket is by winning in Cleveland. Edit: Liberty also returned 4 starters on a team that won a tournament game last season so when it comes to mid-majors they were at least on the radar coming into this season.
  24. You missed a fun season. Akron won 19 straight games, which was the longest active streak in the country at the time, and was ranked in I believe both polls. For starters this team would have to win both the MAC regular season and MAC tournament before any discussion can be had. That team went 14-2 in MAC regular season play. They would have been 15-1 had Abreu not gotten suspended. If this team goes 16-2 in MAC play and wins the MAC tournament, I'd say they would be the best Akron team ever. Winning a tournament game would also suffice.
  25. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We aren't even getting votes currently in any of the top polls. That 2012-2013 is still the best Akron team. Had Abreu not been arrested we probably would have had a 10 or 11 seed in the tournament and would have had a real chance to get our first tournament win.
