  1. I don't feel people are being as much negative as they are being realist. Groce would be the first to tell you that this team as of right now isn't ready to win in Cleveland and that they need to focus on continuing improving that way they can be playing their best basketball come March. If anything, I feel this board is a little overly optimistic that Groce will have the ship righted by March because that's what we're so accustomed seeing out of him. I don't know how any objective person could have watched the Zips the first 15 games of the season and be thinking to themselves right now that the Zips are the team to beat in the MAC right now.
  2. I feel as though you're in the minority of not being a fan of March Madness. Those first two days of the tournament, outside of the Superbowl, are my favorite days on the sports calendar. Nothing beats watching a 13 or 14 seed knock off a blue blood like Duke.
  3. Well I think the big thing is the per volume of games means that there will always be a good game on those first few days. If the game you're currently watching is a blow out, you can just switch it to a different game.
  4. I'd be okay if they expanded March Madness by another 10 or so teams IF they also gave automatic bids to conference regular season winners at mid-majors who lost their conference tournament. I have no interest in seeing more B1G or ACC teams get in who had a losing conference record.
  5. Tavari is going to mold into a great player, but man you can tell the D1 game is still a little too fast for him. He seems to make 2-3 mistakes per game that make you wonder what was he even thinking. There really is no solution for it other than playing through it and learning as he goes.
  6. I don't think Kent is a Buffalo of a few years ago, but they do look the best in the MAC given the ~17 game sample size we've seen. I think they will go 15-3 in the MAC with the second place team (whoever that is) going 13-5 or 12-6.
  7. I've always found it a bit hypocritical that MAC fans bitch and moan about P6 schools not coming to their arena to play, but at the same time those same fans would never want to see their team go on the road to play an American East or SWAC school.
  8. It's always a good sign when bigger programs want your staff. It means that you're doing something right. It's just a shame he wasn't here long enough for us to experience some success before he left for greener pastures
  9. On the road against a tough Ball State team was going to be tough as is. Assuming Castaneda is out, this is going to be an uphill battle. We're going to need more out of Hankerson this game and hope Tavari, Tribble, Hunter, and company can all chip in if we hope to win.
  10. If you go back 5 years even the "bad" MAC teams were still pretty decent compared to other mid to low majors. Now those same schools are at the absolute bottom totem pole of college basketball. It just seems like the MAC has 7-8 teams that are actually trying in basketball. The remaining 4-5 really aren't putting forth any effort and are content being horrific.
  11. Considering A&M has had one of the top recruiting classes the past few years, I doubt it.
  12. NIU coach should be fired for not sending hard double teams at Enrique, especially with X out. On another note I love to see other guys step up. Perhaps a game without X was what the Zips needed for some of these guys to step up and have confidence to create themselves some offense.
  13. This is what it looks like when you remove your best offensive player off an already struggling offense
  14. It's not like these national pundits follow all these teams closely. They kind of just looks at wins and loses then assign grades. Personally, I'd probably give him a B-, but overall I'm optimistic that 3-4 years from now this will look like an A hire.
  15. You're completely disregarding the 4 OOC games that each team played, which the MAC performed extremely poorly. This included multiple losses to FCS schools. The 48 OOC regular season games is a much larger sample size than the 6 bowl games. I'm not ragging on the MAC to just rag on the MAC. I'm doing it because it was objectively a down year for the MAC. Hopefully this years bowl performance is a sign the conference will be improved next year.
  16. I actually didn't think BG was good this year to begin with. They just did enough to capitalize on a very weak MAC this year. Most other years they would have probably been a 4 win team given their level of talent.
  17. Here is how the MAC performed during OOC play per the NET rankings. MAC Team's NET Rankings 30 - Kent State 98 - Toledo 118 - Ohio 125 - Ball State 132 - Akron 198 - Buffalo 253 - Central Michigan 277 - Bowling Green 292 - NIU 300 - Eastern Michigan 326 - Miami 327 - Western Michigan Overall Record by Quad Q1 0-21 (.000) Q2 4-15 (.211) Q3 12-19 (.387) Q4 40-22 (.645) Overall 56-77 (.421)
  18. If it was to happen, I'd imagine the Hall of Fame Village would be the host. I don't see it happening anytime soon though as the village isn't on the greatest financial footing at the moment.
  19. On the plus side, Hankerson has strung together a few good games. He seems to be emerging as that 3rd scoring option.
  20. I don't think that's a done deal yet. They're just interested in hosting one. It would still need to be approved by the NCAA.
  21. High school athletics just isn't big money like college athletics. Massillon's head football coach for example is the school districts 16th highest paid employee. He made 90k, which was 18k for being head coach and 72k for his other job responsibilities. Even if you get NIL at the high school level, I feel it would be players making <5k. Maybe a few isolated incidents in places like Texas where a player might receive a car, but that wouldn't be the norm.
  22. Unfortunately I'd assume it would.
  23. No disagreement there. It's harder in football given the volume of players needed to field a team, but in basketball building through the portal seems like the better option compared to recruiting freshman for this reason. Better to have a player that can help you now instead of spending it on a development project who bolts as soon as they can become a productive contributor
  24. The downside is the G5 is going to be the minor leagues for the P5. You might get 1 productive year out of a player after spending 2 years developing them before they transfer.
