I'm very pro using analytics as I buy into it that it helps increase your chances of winning. That said, those analytics are basing the odds on you being a baseline average team. I guess what I'm getting at is for an example if analytics is saying that Iowa should go for it on 4th down in a particular situation it's not accounting for the fact Iowa has a pitiful offense. Meanwhile, analytics might say that Tennessee shouldn't go for it in a particular situation, however, it's not taking into account their high powered offense. Edit: I'm not exactly sure why I responded to your post as my reply is some what unrelated. It's just an idea on my mind that I felt never really gets brought up when discussing analytics.

I wonder if that February matchup would be similar to bracket busters where they try to match up similar ranked teams? Both conferences should have some good teams near the top, but really lack the depth needed for any team to have much of a chance of building an at-large resume. Assuming a MAC team or Sun Belt team is close to being on the cusp of an at-large, getting a top 50-60 win against another similar caliber opponent would certainly help provide a boost. Obviously what the MAC has been doing hasn't been working as it's been 20+ years since our last at-large. It's nice seeing we're trying something different.

This doesn't even go into how much more use the community would get out of the arena compared to the football stadium. Infocision gets used for 5 home games per year then maybe a handful of high school games. The basketball arena houses 3 Zips sport teams, high school graduations, and if it wasn't a dump could host concerts and other similar type events

I watched the end of the Kent - Ball St game. On a 4th down play Schlee scrambled out of the pocket and would have picked up the first down by a good yard or so had just kept running or dived forward. Instead he slid giving himself up about 1/2 yard short of the first down marker therefore handed the ball back to Ball State to run out the clock. One of the worst displays of situation awareness I've seen in a football game.

This is 100% the correct answer. Akron has no real running threat outside of Kato dropping back for a pass, eluding 1-2 defenders, and then taking off for some yards. The redzone efficiency will improve once we can get a run game that other teams have to respect. It puts you in more makeable down and distances, helps you on 3rd/4th and short yardage, and helps get receivers open on playaction.

If it was going to be televised it would either be on ESPN+ or ESPN3. I don't see it listed on ESPN so my best guess is that it's not. Maybe they'll do a stream for it, but who knows. Personally, this is the home OOC game that I'm looking most to therefore going to attend. SDSU is a very solid mid-major program and should provide the Zips a good early season test.

I would assume his preferred playing position would be DT given that's where he played his first 4 years. He logged 53 tackles a crossed 26 games and appeared to play a good amount of the snaps his freshman and sophomore year before falling out of favor. If playing time is what he wants, he shouldn't have much trouble getting it at Akron. It's just a matter of if he's willing to come to the other side of the country and whether he finds Akron appealing enough

Referees aren't hired by the MAC. The same referees who work B10, Horizon, A10, MVC, etc are the same refs who work MAC. I'm pretty sure college football is the only collegiate sport where conferences have their own officials.

Once UC, Houston, and UCF leave, the AAC is pretty much going to be what the C-USA was 10 years ago. I'd say it's a upgrade, but really not all that better than the MAC. I'd rather just save the millions we'd have to spend flying our non-revenue sports teams to places like Texas, Florida, Louisiana, etc and instead invest that money on better coaches and facilities.

These writers for the hustlebelt write these previews and articles more as a hobby. I doubt they make any money off the site. They probably do watch a couple MAC games a week, but given how bad Akron is they probably only tune in for the games their teams face Akron. The majority of these previews are them just looking through stats and boxscores and then adding in whatever anecdotal opinions based off the few highlights they've seen. Edit: And that's not meant as a knock to the writers. They're certainly trying to step in and fill a gap since the national and local media outlets don't give MAC schools much attention. I'm more so just pointing out these writers have other jobs so it's not like you're going to get the best stuff from them.
