  1. This may be a good omen. I think the Zips no longer have the record for worst bowl loss.
  2. Keep slowing it down. Eventually Nevada is going to wake up..which they have
  3. Similar to what Groce says about the basketball team. Of course, that's a nice theory until you have a Treadwell come along.
  4. Thought the same thing. Nothing a team can do
  5. That didn't last long. Marquettes Howard scored 45 points! 103-85. 62% from 3. 86% from the line. 64 points in second half.
  6. The higher you are the harder the fall. PCCC@Ravenna playing well. Win at Oregon State (of course we beat them few years back). Bulls will have some competition in the MAC it looks like.
  7. I like that he doesn't!
  8. Yes, definitely bottom-feeders in the offensive rebounding although BG is #1 in both offense and defense rebounds. And Zips are last in rebounding margin.
  9. Was looking at the stats in the MAC website. Fortunately, it is redesigned! The Zips rank #1 in defense by a significant margin. They are also #1 defensive shooting percentage. The issues are at the offensive end. These stats probably explain why our losses are so close. We are also #1 (or #12 as they have it) in holding our opponents to the lowest free throw shooting percentage?? Also, The Kittens are a turnover machine! Surprisingly, Akron is #4 in turnover margin. Buffalo and Toledo are at top in assist/turnover.
  10. If you ask someone in the athletic dept they would tell you what a bad partner Acme was. The Albrechts wanted the publicity AND the $.
  11. We have Troy and UAB at home next year?
  12. Of all the 4 year players we've had over the years, his senior night is going to be the hardest to take. Seems like he's been here forever.
  13. IDK. I'm looking at the other teams schedule and records and after Buffalo only PCCC and Toledo and maybe the Kittens have decent records and wins. Otherwise I'm not seeing it. This could be a very easy sweep for Buffalo. PCCC and Toledo might get them to single digits. The rest are looking at 20+ point losses. Akron will need to be hot from 3 and figure out something in the paint to keep it respectable especially if UB takes out Marquette with ease
  14. Buffalo has two games against EMU and a game with Toledo early in their MAC schedule. Would be cool if they roll along and then run into the buzzsaw that is MAC basketball.
  15. They will sweep the MAC. Only hope for any MAC team is to get on the other side of the bracket and hope something crazy happens.
  16. 16 with that 3 from Riak!
  17. Well we were desperate for change back then. Arth has family with him. Lots of young kids.
  18. KLac looks like his face met a fist.
  19. Jimond is awesome. Lots of unselfish play and hustle.
  20. They gave him 30 secs.
  21. One turnover per minute .
  22. I don't understand. Oh, I get it. Like when at the end of the Marshall game I knew Akron wasn't going to make the final shot. An unlucky team.
  23. Wonder who the other 2 finalists were?
  24. Big Game tonight!! Exciting.
  25. Akron is notoriously bad at staging these events. The John Groce welcome was a train wreck as well. The best part was watching Antino smirking and circling around the student union while Groce introduced himself. They then had a private meet and greet for the fans at EJ Thomas. That wasn't that hot either. I don't understand football that well, but I do understand human nature. Tom Arth has a hunger to succeed. He's got a wife and five small kids (I think one is special needs), and he knows he can't screw this thing up, get fired, and be scrambling to find a head coaching job at Albion or Otterbein. I'm sure this is overwhelming change all of a sudden mid-school year for his family. John Groce had such an easy transition. Illinois owed him millions. He had a stable group of assistants who were going to follow him wherever. And he only had to meet with 9 or 10 players as opposed to 80! So if he wasn't all rah rah Akron U at the presser I get it. Also, he was sitting there with an interim president who is a political guru who joked about Arth being the lowest paid in D1. He is right out of central casting for football coach, and I can see how he wowed the interviewers. He's going to need all that youth, energy and family support to make this thing work at Akron. Right now he's refreshing and definitely something new for us. I hope he succeeds and can really brand himself and our football program.
