I thought this game was an inflection point. Notice Trimble didn't make ANY of the final shots. Also, if you look at the thread you can see some, especially @clarkwgriswold talking about how it was good to limit Trimble's minutes.

unfortunate for him and his staff. He came in the same year Groce did? He's had so many good players and no results. Whitford, though, at Ball State was so bad this year. In the q-final game against Ohio, his team was so undisciplined. they would start to catch up and then run down and shoot a quick 3 and miss. There must be a critical mass that occurs on the team's message board that can correlate with a firing except for BG, of course.

I never said he was a man of high character. Clearly, he isn't. However, I thought BG overreacted when they fired him. They could have taken some remedial steps. But the Zips are fortunate Huger is still at at the helm.

@LoyalZIPmade the great point about how hard it is to repeat. Groce and company know they can't put the same team on the floor next year and expect the same results. And frankly, they shouldn't want the same results. I did a quick look at the Zips schedule and focused on their highest scoring games such as Marshall, BG, Toledo, Southern and Ball State (1). In those 5 games Bryan Trimble was on. Yes, there were a couple games post Trimble that were higher scoring but the Zips game plan against UCLA and going through the tournament was grind it out and keep it close. Keeping those power 5 teams close is a risky business and UTC and Akron paid for it. My gut, which has been spot on this year, was thinking that St. Mary's, who is used to playing Gonzaga, was going to run all over the Zips. Zips need another shooting guard and a power forward to back up Freeman. Havoc defense with transition offense and watch the JAR explode.

disappointed but not upset. lots of sad stories in the tournament. The 13th seeds all had competitive games. I measure success by winning the MAC tournament. That's an event the Zips can WIN! NCAA ... try and put up a good showing and hope for some luck and maybe the lower seed has an off game. It all sucks, especially when we think of 2020.

I said to someone last night that Aziz did his part early in the first half when he came in for Freeman and didn't cause any damage. When Aziz was in they had to keep that slow pace and not lose too much ground until Freeman came back in. Is that the kind of contribution Groce and staff expect? I wonder if Aziz was recruited before they knew what a star Freeman would be. And playing them on the floor together was a plan that never worked out.

two non-entity Toledo guys entered the portal along with a couple guys (notably Sparks) from Ball State and two from whatever is left on the BG squad. Surprisingly, White and Artis are still at Western. @Let'sGoZips94 I'm not an Aziz fan. Do we think he can improve that much?
