It really was. Ohio kept throwing up 3s at the end. Just didn't make as many as they did against the Zips.

BG taking it to OU. They've tried to lose it. Jason Carter just got a double T and kicked out of the game. OU shot 37 three pointers. Missed the vast majority.

Those two bad losses for the Zips put them on the wrong side of the bracket with Toledo.

Agree. Not sure if there can be trap games this late in the season when the teams, well at least a Groce team, is prepping for the tournament with each game. Looking at last year's record, I think Zips lost 2 games going into Cleveland. But I really don't count last year. LCJ had a baby during the last half of the season, and they never knew when they were playing. What I do note from last year, is that Ohio was pretty fresh having come off a long COVID break and then played 3 games (winning 2 and losing 1 badly) and then missing their last two games before Cleveland. Makes me think that there may be a benefit to having fresh legs and a clear head. It feels like the Zips season started fresh after Trimble left, which is a sad commentary on Brian. Looking at last year, there were many games where he was the top scorer over LCJ. Continue to play tough and play right with a good attitude. The seeding is set. I wonder if the final game against CMU will decided the Chippewas' fate.

not to digress the thread but when was Kwan's 3 point shooting ever on? (edit: apart from a rare occasion) The crowd at the JAR usually sceamed "Don't Shoot" whenever he had the ball on the perimeter.

Utomi was supposed to be the 3 point specialist off the bench. I think Tommy Schmock does that role fairly well for the Bobcats.

Yes, i was thinking more of Central and Eastern Michigan. They could both finish season winning the same # of conference games but Central would get the nod because 6-12 is a better % than 6-14, even though Eastern beat Central twice. Doesn't seem fair, but life isn't fair

Great weekend to be a Zip. Akron men and women sweep the Bobcats at the Convocation Center. Similar endings. Women up by 12 with a minute left. Kittens get it down to 8, almost steal the ball on an inbounds play, then don't foul the Zips and let them run the clock down and make a shot AND get an offensive rebound before Ohio fouls.

Zips, Ball State, and CMU (our last game) have already punched their tickets to Cleveland. In a way, it's good not worrying about the regular season championship. Zips were sliding heading into the tournament last year and LCJ had just become a dad. Groce is going to have these guys playing with high energy and gathering all that momentum. Buffalo, the likely first round opponent, has Toledo and Ravenna to finish the season.

I mentioned in the thread last night: were the Zips always starting in a hole because Trimble was giving them 5 or 6 empty possessions with clunker 3s to start every game? When Wynn is on the floor, I see him doing things at both ends. Other than shooting 3s (and the Western game when he made some jump shots)Trimble was a ghost on the floor. Remember, those final possessions against WMU at the JAR, the last 4 baskets were Tribble, Ali, Castanenda, and Ali. So @Illini Zip the answer is NO WAY bring Trimble back. Groce allowed him to shoot away all he wanted and apparently didn't appreciate the freedom Groce gave him.

Is it only the Zips, but it seems like in all our game when Zips have like a 12-20 point lead in the final minutes the other team (be it a directional school or whoever) always makes these crazy 3s. But on the plus side, Zips learned that every free throw counts in the clutch. Ali and Tribble just threw some up there and they missed. Aziz and Dawson got it done.

This is the most likely bracket:Ball State isn't going to pull off any upsets. Maybe Miami can surprise.

yes, every which way I ran it, they have Buffalo in the first round. But Ohio is dropping to a 3 seed which puts them with Kent in the lower half. Central and Toledo would be the 1/8 match up. Never know...If Buffalo wins out, Akron could play Kent in first round. actually, if Buffalo beats Toledo and then Kent beats Buffalo, (vomit) Mr. Pinky would have the #1 seed.
