Did I just see Sayles in an arm cast at the end of shoot around?
-
One other thing that is driving me nuts this year is the number of highlights shown on the big screen for the Zips' opponents. Do we really need to replay the other team's breakaway dunks off a lazy Zips pass or a missed assignment? I have no idea who selects the highlights, but please stop them.

It is a matter of time until someone who in not paying attention takes a T to the face. Once or twice a game, they fire some live rounds into the upper deck. He usually hits the rafter once as well. I guess the cannon is set to mirror the Zips 3 point percentage for the night.

Game 19 - Central Michigan Chippewas

Agreed. When you can't hit your jumpers, take it to the hoop. -
Thanks for posting this. I had not heard the sad news. Rudy was a great guy and the JAR will not be the same without him.
-
Don't jinx him. Remember Bob Huggins once got a Technical called on him at halftime at the JAR

K lac with a block and bucket.

...and possibly a Kostelac sighting. On a serious note, from powerhouse opponents to DIII exibitions and everything in between, we only get about 15 or 16 home games a year so I try to get to all of them. Go Zips!

Well said. In the words of cousin Eddie, "Thanks Clark".

I have to ask, why do you hate Groce so much?
-
Agreed. I liked KD and was sorry that he left, but he wanted out of the MAC plain and simple. Being the best MAC team all season long, but not being able to win the MACC was clearly getting to him his last years here. He went to a conference that gets multiple bids and i cannot blame him for that. I felt hiring Groce was a good move and made perfect sense with his knowledge of Ohio, MAC and Midwest hoops.

Story told on last night's ESPN broadcast of Frisco Bowl

I think we found TB's burner account -
A lot of green in the crowd yesterday. Also, I saw boxes and boxes of gold Zips T's stacked on the far base line as there were not enough Zips fans to give all of them away.
-
We couldn't gain 100 total yards with our 2nd string QB so hopefully this is move in the right direction.

With all the anger you have, I just don't understand how a 4 win team that could not compete in the MAC and was frequently unwatchable gets a full pass from you. I have stated TB did some good things and took over a terrible program. After 7 years, the fact is he wins 40% of his games and only wins about 1 out of 3 against FBS teams. Next year looked like more of the same. Why are you not upset about that? Why are you not upset that we never had a running game, never had a back up QB ready to step in, never had any depth on the offensive line, never recruited well, etc. We all want the Zips to do well and we can disagree about how they need to move forward but you have a level of venom for other Zips fans that should be reserved for PCCC.
-
He fired a coach that could only win 35% of his games against FBS opponents so that is a start. You were so willing to give TB more time, you can give the AD a season or two to see how this plays out.

TB did win the East and get a us a bowl victory. It was a fun season and he was probably the best available coach we could have hired to follow Ianello. But taking an close look at the past Zips DI coaches, TB's legacy is being greatly over-hyped by some on this site that did not like his firing. Gerry Faust and JD Brookhart both had better records than TB at Akron. JD won .417 of his games and Gerry .447 to TB's .402. Gerry did it while taking us from DI-AA OVC to DI-A Independent to the MAC which may not have been as bad as following Ianello, but was not an easy road. Gerry also did not get a free win against a DI-AA opponent every year as he played an 11 game season. Lee Owens did not get the free win either for the first part of his tenure. The yearly stomping of Howard, Morgan State, etc. inflate TB's winning percentage from .350 to .402. GF (.438), LO (.432) and JD (.458) all had better MAC records than TB (.411). All the prior coaches also played in an era where a 7-5 team did not get a bowl bid. If you wish TB was still here I get it, but please be honest that you are arguing to keep a coach that won 35% of his games against FBS opponents.

Wouldn't the definition of insanity have been to keep Bowden and expect a different outcome next year from the past 7 years?
-
What's the over/under on the number of 3's put up in this game? They will be flying all game.
-
Take it easy. A typo doesn't negate an opinion or create the need for snide comments. Your argument as to the coaching could be correct or we may have just recruited bad lineman. A list of potentials doesn't mean depth. Instead of cliches, I will leave it at this. During the Bowden era everytime one starting lineman got injured, our running game fell apart. It may have been coaching, recruiting, game plans or most likely a combination of all of them. We are in agreement that Larry needs to make a good hire.

41% beats TB
-
He can go back to the studio desk with no problems if he wants to do that. He's a Bowden so he is a natural story teller.
-
If TB would have signed a new class and then they fire him, doesn't that release any player who wants to leave the program without having to sit out?
-
You might be rigth as to coaching, but we certainly had no depth in terms of guys ready to step up when someone was injured. We never had next man up as part of our program.
