  1. I’m more interested in when do we start our, “We want Wilson!” chant?
  2. I greatly enjoyed the home environment KD brought back to Akron. The JAR had not rocked like that since Huggins. KD built a premiere mid major program that unfortunately ended with several years of heartbreak in the MAC tourney. After multiple years of being the #1 seed but failing to get it done for the automatic trip to the big dance, I think he was telling the truth when he went to a team that was in a 3 bid league (at least it was when he arrived). His family is from Pittsburgh and his son transferred to Duquesne to finish his soccer career so I don’t blame him. The money was not that big an increase if my memory serves correct. It was time for both him and program to go in new directions. I think the whole of ZNO (minus one or two cranks) agrees Groce is the best coach for the job. Let’s just enjoy what we have and leave KD in the past. Go Zips!
  3. I'm sorry to hear you are leaving. Hopefully, you will see what happens in the off season and give them one more chance. My main thought is I do not understand the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" statement. Coach seems to be a great lady; however, she is barely above .500 for her career at Akron, she's 40-50 (44%) in MAC play, and 4 out of 5 starters are graduating leaving us with by far the worst roster in the MAC heading into next year. We only have 1 remaining player that would start for any other MAC team (maybe 2 on the lesser teams). This is now a total rebuild. I hope they get hot in Cleveland, and I have no doubt they will play hard for Coach. Go Zips!
  4. You are totally correct. A 44% winning percentage in MAC play is not going to cut it. Also, with 4 starters graduating we are now in a complete rebuild which made it all the more likely the program would go in a new direction. You have Bass (please tell me she is staying), Stinson and not much else to build around. The backcourt was horrific this season and both starters are gone with no clear successors in place. Our backup point guard appears to be 4' 6'' and we had a lot of ladies on the bench that did not or could not regularly contribute. If the roster was loaded with young talent, Coach would probably have been brought back. I was at the Toledo game when at one point 6 Zips hit 3's out of the gate (6/7 shooting) so here's hoping they get red hot and make some noise in Cleveland for Coach. Go Zips!
  5. I forgot to mention parking pass is thrown in with season ticket orders. If they try to give you Lot 1 (parking deck) ask for Lot 8 for hoops and Lot 9 for football.
  6. Call or stop in at the Ticket Office and there is no extra charge (maybe a $5 total charge for the whole order on season tix). They will email you eTickets or mail you paper ones. Don't let the Google get you!
  7. For the ZNO Board: Better road trip - Kentucky or Indiana?
  8. I'm in for my usual 4 seats. Go Zips!
  9. Bring the whole family. We need the dues!
  10. 100%. A freelance reporter recently told me the ABJ is now paying based on where the article is placed in the paper. I don't know if that is true, but it would explain why they focus on written-version click-bait instead of actual reporting. I cannot believe how bad that rag is. It's embarrassing.
  11. Agreed. It would be similar to the Marshall game. Lots of green in the stadium that day but good fans that know football.
  12. I'm a long-time season ticket holder to FB and MBB but had never gone to WBB games in the past. My daughter is now playing travel ball, so we went to 4 or 5 WBB games. I was amazed that Camp as a Sr. point guard could be so out of control and so sloppy with the ball. Not only the TO's but the pull up jumpers with no rebounders in place, lazy defense in transition and the inability to make good crisp passes drove me crazy. The poor, poor point guard play with no consistent scoring from the 2 guard really killed any chance to have what could have been a really good season. It wasted the talent of the 4 quality bigs on the roster. I do not have enough knowledge or insight to say if it was a good or bad move to let the coach go, but with a slightly over .500 career record, losing 4 starters and having an AD that did not hire her, the writing was on the wall. Getting housed by 40 plus at Can't did not help. Hopefully they can get hot at the right time and make some noise in the MACC. Go Zips!
  13. This may have been pointed out earlier in the thread and I missed it, but the Cant fans seem less and less confident in their squad the longer Groce is on the Akron bench (I suspect it could also be realizing they have the inferior coach). There was not the usual cockiness as they came into the JAR this time. They were less vocal and smaller in numbers than some past games. They bailed on their team quickly. I loved seeing all the Zips students in white waving goodbye as the Cant kids in their black shirts filed out like a long line of ants.
  14. Add in missing X for a stretch and adding new pieces as he keeps working on the rotations. COY hands down.
  15. To show just how bad it truly was, Arth's winning percentage at Akron would yield an 8-68 record over the same number of games (even worse without BGSU). That is why Akron has at least 15 breweries with more on the way.
  16. More power to Kalle leaving to get a chance to start, but I won't miss Trimble. He was good for one or two Steph Curry-like 3-point clinics a year but that was it. Prior to his benching or whatever happened he was good for 7 pts, 2 boards, 1 assist and 0 defense a game. The only stats he leads a team in is lack of hustle, especially when his shot is not dropping, and highest pouting percentage.
  17. I heard he tried to enter the Transfer Portal several times but kept dropping his paperwork, so he didn't.
  18. We all saw that this team, even sitting at 1 win, was better than anything Arth put on the field. This win validates that and gives them something to build on. Plus, Coach Joe gets a full recruiting season this time around so let's go!.
  19. It also limits the passing game because there is no time for double moves, delayed routes, etc. We have trouble even setting up screens. I has to be a nightmare to try and call the plays when the OL gets blown up so often. Think of all the drives that start well and then suddenly nobody picks up the blitzing safety or linebacker. So many of the sacks we give up are complete whiffs that are going to get Irons hurt again.
  20. Sadly, you are correct. It's not just the $ they are worried about losing. None of the bigger programs want to risk losing to a mid-major on the mid's court. Think about it, would you rather have a cupcake come to your arena (and keep the revenue) or travel to Akron to face a very good team in a bandbox gym. Akron's long term success at home makes scheduling a nightmare. Throwing 2 away games with a home game is not nearly enough to get it done.
  21. Following in the footsteps of Emmanuel Olojapoke, but will he ever match Poke's SR season averages of 5.6 pts, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 BS per game against powerhouses like Antelope Valley and UTRGV? It will be interesting to see how Aziz develops.
  22. I have always heard Knoxville is a great game day experience. Has anybody been to Spartan Stadium? thx
  23. Seton Hall Peacocks
  24. Great thread. Thanks for starting it.
  25. I moved this to the 2023 thread. 2022 is a Terry-free year.
