Upgraded from Nebraska, Iowa State, and Northwestern to Clemson, Auburn, and Ohio State. Impressive.
-
On a "worst stadium" list? No way. Your stadium is fine. Just waiting for fans to put it to better use.
-
Great player and great man. Never heard a bad word about him. When he was together with fans, he made everyone feel like they were the stars.
-
NW looked really good in the second half tonight! Nice to hear them make reference to the loss to Akron just as the game ended! Go Zips!

Made for some very interesting conversations during our holiday visit with the in-laws.
-
Ouch. To what do you attribute this? Is it the grind of the season? Not able to prep well for bowls? Being predictable so other teams can prep well for you? Those numbers are so bad they defy logic.

#330 pounds or phone?

Maybe there is no issue. Maybe it is more common in Ohio. As I survey the college football world, I think it is unusual. And I don't think it is possible for Bowden to be employed by the university and "not be involved with the football program whatsoever." The only reason to keep him around is that you think there is some net gain for the football program. Apparently they did and I hope for your sake they are right.
-
I hope that the University has a net gain financially by keeping Bowden around. Surely that has to be the most compelling reason. It probably doesn't cost the school much more to keep him around, but they must think that they can use him in a way that saves money or makes money. However, a "little" bit of conflict between him and the new coach could be "very costly."

Story told on last night's ESPN broadcast of Frisco Bowl
Cykron replied to jupitertoo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I heard that story and wondered if there was more to it. Too bad that they threw Akron under the bus when there is surely another side to the story. -
Yeah. I'm surprised how okay everyone seems with having former head coaches hanging around. On one hand, it is great that they are still supportive of the program. However, on the other hand, it is impossible not to exert influence that is awkward at best. Hope it works out for you. Maybe in a better world, this is how it should be.
-
Not sure what to think about that. It is such a cut-throat business. Is it really that congenial? Or is just a way to reduce the cost of buying out someone's contract? Its not like Bowden's roots in the area are that deep. Maybe you Akron people are just that nice.
-
Good for you. That is much better than I was expecting, especially given the early reports that seemed like they were going to stiff you.

dre22era helped me learn about a new tool on this site, the "Ignore List." This thread will be much better now.

Seems odd for Bowden to stay around in any meaningful capacity, particularly with a young coach who needs to establish his own identity properly.

Is the $650k from the Fuskers for this year's cancelled game only (and then another $1m or so in 2025)? Or is the $650k for this year and 2025? The latter sounds more like Fusker negotiating logic. If you got $650k this year for the cancelled game and full price for another game in 2025, then your AD came through for you. Interesting that Nebraska hasn't announced anything about it that I can find.

1. Do you think football should be played on Saturday? 2. Do you know LeBron? 3. Do you trust corn farmers? 4. Do you think "Fear the Roo" (with the piercing eyes) is the best logo ever? 5. What is your username on ZipsNation?

College football itself pretty much reeks of First World Problems!

I think Matt Campbell would give much credit for his success to his foundation at Mount Union.

For now. As a lower tier Big 12 team, we are worried about what will happen when the TV "grant of rights" expires. I think it is 2020. There may be a major reset at that time. For instance, if the whole TV deal switches more to a subscription basis to watch individual teams, then Iowa State might need national support to keep its money flowing in. Hard to imagine that many people around the country paying to see Iowa State (other than the Akron fans that we have won over!).
-
Surprised to find out how "little" Bowden was making at Akron. Iowa State just gave Campbell an extension on his $3.5 million contract and an extra $1 million for his assistant coaches. In Ames, Iowa! The arms race for head coaches' pay is crazy. And I know who will be paying more for season tickets next year!
-
Have the Fuskers paid 50%? Or was that the initial anticipated settlement? Sounds to me like nothing was going to be paid anyway until March 2019. From the looks of it, nothing has been paid . . . and won't be paid unless you agree to a return game . . . which may mean that you eat the expenses of the cancelled game. Darn Fuskers.
-
I agree. It seems odd that they are insisting that Akron come to Lincoln again. Unless they are trying to double-dip on a payment. Something like "we will pay you the full amount, but you have to agree to play another game." Who can understand the mind of a Fusker?

Yeah, not quite what we were expecting on Saturday. We tailgated and it was miserable. Even lost my favorite tailgate tent to a nasty east wind. This game was not meant to be played! Yet, I would take our makeup game over yours. Our AD talked about it being like a bowl game for Drake. He let them use our practice facility on Friday. Even had a dinner for them in our endzone club area with Drake stuff on the jumbotrons and ribbon boards. All the pregame articles were about the backups who never ended up playing. Maybe we made too big a deal of it for them. They came to play. And they had plays ready to exploit the weather. It didn't help when we got a high snap on the punt after our first possession and they sacked our punter in the red zone. Made us play from behind all day until DeShante Jones from Cincinnati ran a slant for the TD. Oh well, next stop is the Riverwalk in San Antonio. P.S. If Adrian has an open date, I'm sure our AD is already calling them!
