Technically, you are correct but generally speaking most teams will honor their commitment to the players that have earned a scholarship unless the player defaults on his commitment to keep the scholarship or if there is a coaching change…

I watched all of them bro…First off, let me say, I am not a Arth super supporter. I just call it as I see it. Arth’s first year really didn’t count as he came in after the main signing period, so he really only had about as much time as Moorhead has had. As for players, you must not be paying attention. Yes, Arth did bring in some guys that had no business being on a Div 1 FBS football team but so has Moorhead. Here is a list off the top of my head of Arth offensive guys that left for greener pastures that could have helped us George Qualls Jr., Zach Gibson, Jonzell Norills, Konata Mumpfield, Ryan Beckman, Owen Murphy, Jordan Daniels, and Xavier Grey. I am sure there are several others on defense as well… You have to also remember that Arth really only had two full recruiting years and I would have liked to have seen him coach out his contract rather than have it bought out for a half million dollars and then pay Moorhead $800k/yr for no better results….
-
True, it is the entire organization but they don’t fire the players when a team doesn’t perform….its all the coaches and sometimes the admin that go……
-
Yes, but ultimately these are mostly Moorhead’s guys as they have chased out all but a handful of kids from the Arth era. Moorhead has dug deep into portal for kids with no success, ultimately playing them over talent that was there that I feel could have done better in several positions. Look at all the players that have left the past few years that have gone on to bigger programs and who are playing at their new schools. Position coaches are not doing him any favors either. Ultimately, it’s the coaches responsibility to get these kids prepared and keep the talent he has. Moorhead is just not getting the job done, period end of story. and I do not buy NIL deals and transfer portal as a reason for program failure. Every other team has to work within these boundaries as well.

Failures fall on the players??? Really? Failure to win falls directly on the coaches and admin. The only improvement I see is on the defense. Moorhead was supposed to be this offensive savior and we are no better off than we were under Arth. In fact Arth was starting to turn things around when they canned him after only a couple of years…I don’t see that happening under Moorhead. There will be a mass exodus of talent this year just like in years past….

Arth looking good right now….Moorhead better clue up and find new some new position coaches on offense or he will find himself on the chopping block.

Position Preview (and updates) - Offensive Line
Zippyroo replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
I figured Whigan was not getting playing time at PS. That is likely why he transferred. Whether he pans out as a starter or not, he should provide depth which we have been lacking. I feel the OL should be an area of strength this year with our young players maturing and with additions like Banes and others.... -
Or a distraction. Hopefully it works out.

That is a good point. He must still be recovering as he did not play and was wearing a red jersey. Definitely have some depth now, regardless of how things shake out before the start of season. -

Ones look to be the following: LT. Grey LG. Banes C. Georges RG. Robarge RT. Williams Twos looked like the following: LT. Daniels LG. Lyons C. Beckman RG. Kilbane RT. Chambers Things to note: In second half of spring game they switched Daniels into the ones for Grey. Makes me think there is still a position battle going on there. Will be curious where Penn State transfer Whigan will play when he arrives. Gotta think he will challenge for a starting position somewhere. Line looked decent today. Irons had all day to pass and never took off and ran which was very un-Irons like from last year. However, his throws seemed to be late an multiple plays. The offensive did not run the ball much so it was difficult to tell how well the OL was run blocking. -
Agree. I think we all want best players available at every position and I trust new coaching staff will not have any bias for any player and each position will have to be earned. Would love to go watch a practice session.

Who knows if this is "first team" as they could still just be trying out different combinations on the OL but the dude at RG is probably Robarge. Looks like him based of stance and he played RG last season. In addition, if they were going to play Banes at Gaurd, why would they move him out of his natural position at RG for Beckman that played LG last season. Doesn't make sense to flip flop. I would lay money that they are projecting Banes at LG and Robarge at RG. Two solid guys....Beckman is likely competing for Center given his size. I think real questions are at both tackle positions....my two cents.

Position Preview (and updates) - Offensive Line

Hmmm. We will see. I feel you have underestimated several players and overestimated a couple as well. For instance, I would bet all of the incoming freshman will be redshirted and will be minimal impact players this year and maybe even next year. I also think Beckman or Georges are very serviceable players at center with good intelligence for the game. The other player I think you missed on is Robarge. Did you see the picture of that dude recently? He is a beast and probably the strongest guy on the team. He also started from game 4 last year, played the entire year in a club because of some injury and did pretty darn well. It is not easy to play OL without being able to grab with both hands. I have to think he is on scholarship and is a lead contender to start at guard. -
Zippy should be reinvented along with the logo. The "Barney" act alike mascot has to go. Needs to be a bad ass Kangaroo that scream "Fear the Roo". The happy go lucky zippy has no place in this new era.

Also like the preceeding comment in the article. “There is no level of compromise. They're going to do it the way we want it done or they can find another place to play or they can sit on the bench,” he said. “It's really one of three things. Do it the way this team needs to be done that's led to a 52-25 career head coaching record and five different conference championships at five different schools as a head coach or coordinator or the [transfer] portal's open for business."

Grading the 22 Recruiting Class, and What Else is needed

Wow. I assume the players shown in this tweet are offensive lineman. Looks like they have been busy in the weight room this off-season. Dude on the right looks like a beast! -
NLI National Letter of Intent (Late) Day 2022
Zippyroo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
We have some size coming back at OL with experience finally too. Gray, Murphy, Robarge, and Williams are all 6'5+, 300+ pounders so it will be interesting to see how the transfers integrate with these guys. With some improved coaching these guys should do well. I am especially excited to see Robarge play this year since he was handicaped with a hand injury all season last year and played with a club and still performed well. Tough for a lineman to block effectively with only one hand to grab with. With all the new HS additions, Akron should be in good shape for years to come even if only half of them live up to their billing. -

Class of '22 Verbal Commits
Zippyroo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Because they are high schoolers that need to slim down/beef up and mature. Rarely will a freshman OL come in and play significant minutes. Our current line now has a few years of experience which is when a typical OL player would get significant playing time. Throw these new guys in now and you will see no improvement and likely a decline in play. I anticipate we get maybe one or two OL transfers to sure up our current OL. That with the change in scheme and the addition of beefy TE's will have an immediate impact. -

Even if they decide to come to Akron it's highly unlikely that they will have any impact or even see the field for a couple of years. -

Recruiting Service "Stars" - Do they matter?
Zippyroo replied to 94zipgrad's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
See ya Big J@#k O#f. All I was saying is that there is talent that never gets rated. Sure, overall, most kids do get rated that want to play beyond HS, so of course there will be a trend for those that do. No surprise there. I see no reason for concern if these coaches offer a few no star kids if they feel they deserve it. -
Recruiting Service "Stars" - Do they matter?
Zippyroo replied to 94zipgrad's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Stars are great but don't put too much emphasis on them. There are a lot of reasons a kid may not be rated. As a coach, are you going to offer a kid based on what someone else thinks of him? No, you will make your own decisions. -

Looks like Tyler Leopold has reopened his recruitment. Why would new OL coach "Like" that tweet unless new coaches did not think he was worthy? Seemed like a solid kid coming out of HS.
