Kent has played an incredible number of close games. To their credit, they have pulled through in most of them. Gonna likely see them twice coming up. I fully expect Kent to try and get under the Zips skin by being super aggressive. Show composure, rebound and make every possession count. Zips get it done but it’s gonna be a battle.

Kent slops their way to a lot of wins. I do not like a potential semifinal game with them. Need to crush their confidence Friday night.

until the last two games, Akron won the rebounding battle in just about every game. Not making excuses for the last two but Kent missed 22 3-point shots. Lotta long rebounds. Last night was a zombie performance but they still managed to win. Groce will get into these guys and clean it up.

OK I haven’t seen it brought up and it doesn’t bother me but the woman next to me last night was clearly troubled by the Jesus Won warmup shirts. Again no issue here but it did seem odd. Great win. As a Zip/Buckeye combo fan, Evan Mahaffey plays hard. Good defender, high motor. Hoping the staff can do what Ohio State’s couldn’t and that’s give him some confidence on offense. He’s a guy who just has trouble getting the ball in the bucket even from in close. He just seemed in over his head in the Big 10. 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 18 minutes per game this year. Those numbers should improve at Akron if he can translate his effort and attitude onto the stat sheet. Really good guy. Rooting for him to have a great 25-26 season.
