Agreed, downtown Akron is kind of depressing these days. Me and my friends actually used to do almost all our drinking down there rather than the Exchange Street bars. Would love to see it come back to life!

For what it’s worth, I went to Akron BECAUSE it is an urban university. I grew up in a cowtown so Akron used to seem really big to me, and I liked that. Not sure how many of my fellow cowtowners have the same mindset as me, but there were a handful of other people from my high school that went to Akron as well. I don’t know if I would have chosen a “college town” if I was initially from an urban area. Tough to say since I didn’t have that experience.

One thing I will add about this, is I was going to UA when it was at peak enrollment. At the time, we had all the res halls that are currently on-campus, plus Grant, Gallucci (not sure if I spelled that right), and Quaker. Quaker is currently shuttered and they’re looking to sell it, and Grant and Gallucci are in the landfill. So, I would think that compared to peak enrollment, both on-campus and off-campus students are down.

Agreed that a first round match-up versus a rival wouldn’t be ideal, but on the other hand, if we don’t even win a co-share of the regular season MAC title this year after all the promise of the season, I’ll be pretty irate. Last night’s choke job had much bigger implications than any of our other losses this year. We still had everything we wanted in our sights before last night, and now we will likely be the second seed in the MAC tournament with three very tough match-ups in a row. Ugh.

Hey, the arena wasn’t totally dead. My eardrums are still ringing from the DJ blasting crappy music instead of letting our band full of talented musicians have some play time.

I have a friend who works in higher ed transfers, formerly at Akron but now at one of those nine colleges. He said Akron is accepting those kids, but they never take the time to be proactive enough to get onto those press releases. That is an issue in its own right.

Yeah if we took Vermont, VCU, or someone else without a football team, I feel like we’d pretty much be obligated to take UConn for football only to make sure we’ve got an even number of teams. Agreed that Delaware would have been great. I doubt they would have picked C-USA over the MAC if we had invited them. Not sure why that didn’t happen.

Dang, that’s so stupid. Would love to see all the mid-major conferences band together and form our own post season tournament for the good teams that didn’t make the NCAA tournament. This is the final nail in the coffin of anyone giving a crap about the NIT tournament, which by the way, was won by a mid-major team last year.

So, I don’t really understand the new NIT rules. But we’re still 99th in the NET rankings. Would we still have a shot at an at-large bid to that if we don’t win the MAC tournament? The NCAA is so dumb for thinking people want to see more mediocre P6 teams in the NIT.

Crazy to me that we are in first place yet I am still disappointed with the guys this season. Plenty of talent but they just don't have that dawg in them that’s required to win close games.

Any decent colleges in New Jersey looking to step up from FCS? I’d love to have some of this gabagool!

Looks like the MAC will be adding UMASS in all sports starting in 2025-2026. Got to say I didn’t really see that one coming.

Personally I’d love to have a chance to pound them for the third time in a single season but I agree they seem a lot better than your prototypical 8th seed.
