As long as we’re on the topic of logos, I have to admit I really like these kinds of logos. They say the name of the university and incorporate the mascot. I don’t see any reason we can’t have a logo that says “Akron” and also incorporates a kangaroo.

Judging by how little our annual payouts from the MAC are, I’d say whatever money ESPN does rake in from these weekday games, they largely keep.

Can’t make tonight’s game so I gave my ticket to my sister. She has two degrees from Toledo. Hope if the Zips can do one good thing this season, it is to send her home unhappy tonight! That would make me more likely to renew my season ticket.

Cutting 10 of 19 of the professors in our most well renown program seems like a huge mistake. Hope someone talks some sense into these people.

Maybe Dru can throw us a bone and schedule a home-and-home between the Zippers and the Dooks before he’s canned. Rooting for him to turn it around, though.

There will definitely be some sickos willing to tune in that early! I’m sure ESPN has made a killing on all the commercials they get to show on these 4-hour Tuesday night games.

I was misstating if you all thought I was implying it is JUST the commissioner’s fault, so I apologize for that. My point is, though, that if ZipsNation.org could probably crowd-fund a better TV deal than the one ESPN gives the MAC, we should have someone who is a better negotiator to go to the table with them.

Between this and the MAC’s absolutely pathetic media deal, Steinbrecher seems to be extremely incompetent.There’s a reason Toledo and NIU were considering going to the Mountain West’s skeleton conference for football only. Steinbrecher is practically giving away our media rights to ESPN. The A10 gets more money than us per school and they don’t even have football. They are a fun basketball conference. If it weren’t for our albatross football stadium, I’d love to move over to them.

With all the uncertainty in football, who knows what the divisions will look like in the future and where the Zips will be? I just hope we continue to have the opportunity to beat Kentucky State.

That’s fair. I’m sure many programs can just be a matter of how much effort is put into learning the material, and some may be a waste of time. But my point is if other colleges are picking up easy revenue from this, why not Akron? I believe Akron launched an online MBA recently, but should have 10 years ago and gotten ahead of the curve to differentiate themselves. Now they’re playing catch-up with established “brands.”

Mine has been very worthwhile and very affordable.

I would have loved to do my master’s at Akron but they don’t offer a master’s in my program. Meanwhile, I’m doing it at Kansas State, all online, where they have hundreds of people in the program from across the world. We can crap on Scarbie all we want, but he did at least see the value in online education. It’s low cost and high profit. A broken clock is right twice a day, I suppose.

This information turned out to be junk, so I apologize for jumping the gun. Grand Canyon University, a for-profit scam college, officially joined the Mountain West today as a non-football member. Despite being a scam college, they have a great basketball team. The word is that the Mountain West is still pursuing NIU and Toledo as football-only members. That would be a disaster for the MAC. Our media deal where we have to play at the worst times and get the smallest payouts continues to be detrimental. Not sure how the commissioner still has a job after letting ESPN abuse the conference like this. Need someone who can actually negotiate. Atlantic 10 schools get a higher payout than MAC schools, and they don’t even have football, which is supposedly the money-making sport.

Dang… that pretty much looks just like the JAR but nicer. Hope Guthrie makes the trip and gets inspired.

At this point I kind of want to just wait and see what happens. It seems we’re headed for a separate G6 league. If that’s the case, I would want to be all in on spending to compete in that league. For now, there is zero chance a team like Akron can compete in FBS, but I also don’t want to see us drop down to FCS and admit we’re as small-time as YSU. Whether we are or not is a different debate.
