I also believe there is a plan to tear down Galluci Hall. For those who don't know it was a Holiday Inn at one point and converted to a dorm something like 20+ years ago. My brother (who graduated 3 years ago) said the last time he was there -- there were still some things labeled with Holiday Inn in the dorm rooms. Probably a good thing to knock it over.

If you have ever had the opportunity to see Mentor play football he indeed did play WR in a spread offense that relied on mostly short passes.

C'mon GP1 -- I've heard talk before about how many points it takes to win a game -- if it that number isn't at least 33 then maybe I'm watching the wrong sport. Maybe if we had a defense and coaching staff that could coach there way out of a paper bag we'd have won.
-
Yeah -- you guys are right -- this one is on Jacq. Listen I'm probably one of the only people who seems to give the guy any credit while everyone wants to bench him -- I think GP1 is right this back up quarterback thing must be tied to NE Ohio. His play isn't fantastic, but he's certainly adequate enough. JD sees him and Rogers everyday at practice.Just wondering if all you guys happened to realize the offense put 33 points on the board!!!!!! You telling me that isn't enough points to win a game -- 33 f'ing points. Maybe we should look a little more closely at the defense. I will say I am puzzled at the trick play when we are close. Kennedy had a day today I thought we'd never see yet when the time to run the ball came -- we elected to not let him have the ball!!

J Woods Playing Days Continue........

I'm guessing the Finish league is worse than the MAC. He didn't put up those kind of numbers here!!!! -
So included in this discussion of bashing Jacq are we going to include the many, many, many balls that are dropped by the receivers. Bowser makes great catches, but misses about half of them that are thrown to him. Two interceptions yesterday bounced off of receivers hands. But this board is right -- Jacq is the problem. How about the pass that Cruz missed -- that kid should have been on the bench the rest of the game after that one. I'm not saying Jacq is the best quarterback I've seen, but the wide receivers and Joe Moorehead should all be under equal scrutinty.

What a great way to kick off the Senior Year -- Congratulations Zeke!

I put the score as 31-27 Akron. Unfortunately I'm not sure the Zips can contain Edelman -- running quarterbacks always seem to give the Zips fits. If they can contain Edelman I think this game is lobsided. I think Rason missed a point in his video preview of the game when the guy from Can't said they played even against BSU -- the final score looked similar, but BSU was missing there best player in the Can't game. Hard to compare the games when there top threat is on the sideline. This Akron team is better than expected and this is the most pivotal to the year -- I agree with others who say this game could be the catalyst to a second trip to Detroit and another shot at BSU with our their wideout.

JD mentioned on the post game interview the play in question was a screen that was blown up by Cincy. He also mentioned Jacq did exactly what he was coached to do -- can't imagine he was coached to do something that causes a penalty. Our offense was paralyzed when AJ went down - Kennedy was cramping up and Tuzze was seen by Cincy's D as far less of a threat. All I kept thinking about was why hasn't JD sent B Williams back into play RB. That was certainly what I would have done. It was the end of the game and I'm sure he was tired, but the threat he would have provided would have been great. At this point we are essentially down to our third and fourth string RBs in my opinion.Speaking of football rules -- one I'll never understand and I think is the dumbest in all of sports is the half the distance to the goal when there is 15 yards that can be had. For example ball on the 16 and you get a 15 yard penalty --- it is half the distance to the goal. Why not take it to the one? If the other team gets a penalty on the next play for 15 yards it moves 15 the other way. This happened to us a lot yesterday or at least it felt like it did.The penalty on the punt did cost us 15 yards because the interference call on A Jones would have put the ball at the 37 -- instead it was at the 22. I thought Cincy looked pretty bad for a team that destroyed Miami last week. If the same team that showed up for Akron yesterday shows up the rest of the way this team has the potential to finish at least .500 and looking even better going into next year. Igor's kicking (no matter how you slice it) was the only true impact on the game yesterday. Everything else is a wash and we lost the kicking game -- we got our ass beat in the kicking game. If you had asked me before the game if that would have happened I would have said no.

I hate to say it, but I really expected a win at Syracuse and I didn't see it as the upset it is being portrayed as. What I don't expect is a win this week against a very good BSU team. A win this week (like it or not) will be far more impressive to me than the win against Syracuse.

No --I'm still not convinced it was Jacq and it wasn't the terrible offensive play calling and the way he was jerked around last year competing against an option quarterback that couldn't throw worth a lick. We saw this is kind of play last year in small doses. Maybe we aren't actually seeing what he was capable of last year if the play calling was better. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I saw the kid play in high school and the kid we've seen the last two weeks is closer to that one.

I've got a novel idea how about instead of asking me for my story -- the ABJ can get off their ass and write a story. Here I'll give them an idea -- look at some of the significant happenings at the Rubber Bowl over the years and interviewing someone who played an important role. How about an interview with Jason Taylor, Charlie Frye or even Domenik Hixon. Interview Faust or Dennison or go back further. Talk to someone from the Walenda family when they did the sky walking exhibition. There are plenty of stories. Heck ask Lee Owens about his favorite Zips moment at the RB or Dwight Smith. Talk to Dr. Ruebel what he remembers most. There are plenty of angels that actually require work.

I know plenty of people who made mistakes that landed them in juvenile detention when they were younger and it was enough for them to straighten out. I've also known people he ended up the othere way and are in jail now. The only differentiator was the person himself. I hope JD has made the right decision here. I'd like to be able to give this kid the benefit of the doubt, but he has to know up front he'll be on a short leash. I wish him luck and can only hope this was the wake up the kid needed. As for JD - I'm not sure he's on as short a leash as people think. After this year he'll have two more years on his contract and can't imagine we would have the ability to just let him walk away. Too costly to the school.

They played until 1995 -- July of 1995. One of my favorite shows was Three Rivers Stadium that year -- Rusted Root opened for them and it rained like hell during the second set. Who is Jerry Garcia? That's funny -- if you are serious type his name in your google search bar and surf through the millions of hits.

that show wasn't just the dead it was dylan and the dead with tommy petty and the heartbreakers as openers I believe

I think it actually has more to do with self confidence. Interestingly enought self confidence can be seen in a kids decision to go to UNC or to go to Akron. The kid who goes to UNC isn't thinking about riding the pine because in his mind he is going to be playing. He is better than those kids at UNC and the other recruits. His self confidenc in himself is what probably makes him the player his is along with his skills. The kid like Zeke who goes to Akron is not only self confident in his ability, but he is sure a decision to go to a mid-major school is not going to impact his career aspirations. He has the self confidence to make the right decision for him and to not let others impact his thought process. This is his decision and he is going to make it. I don't know that there is a wrong answer here. I do think the original point of the post is valid though because I think many of the kids never consider the opportunities available to them at mid-major schools because they are doing what they are supposed to do - select a high level school.

Would love to see the U build around then and then fence off the University property in that area. They could easily play it off as a safety precaution given the shootings outside of the bar -- blah blah blah. I would love to see them pay taxes on the $3.1 million that would be great. It is fine if you don't want to sell and go to court fine let them have their property at the value they believe it is worth. The taxes on the $1 million parking lot that generates no revenue would be great.

Some campus construction pics
Big Zip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I believe the Korean War was known as the mechanized war and the rust is supposed to simbolize that -- I also think if you look at the globe it sits on it is on the longitude of border between Korea. This may also be on the medal structure that sits on top. -
Behold the new UA Campus map.
Big Zip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Speaking of Google maps -- there is now a link to tour Walt Disney World from a person POV on google maps. That has to be the next step in this map -- the ability tour campus via a map would be great. All in all though -- this is a very nice step in the right direction. I only wish someone would tell the University that your website is your best marketing tool for new students and they need to build it out as such. The current version appears to be more aimed at students and faculty -- not a good decision considering they use Zipline the most if anything. -
Zen my point is you obviously haven't been to the area for years and it is the same reason you wouldn't live there -- it wasn't worth $3 million. I have no problem with the guy getting fair market value -- this isn't fair market value.
-
Zen tell me you live in that neighborhood? If you dont' live in that neighborhood tell me you'll move there. Tell me you drink at Joes -- you're a regular. This is a situation where a run down area of town is going to be replaced with something that is going to benefit the city more than the land owners every considered. The land owners had their opportunity to make it a better place while they were there and they didnt'. One more thing -- can someone tell me what the parking deck cost at the corner of Spicer and Buchtel -- I'm thinking it was like $5 million of which 1/7 was paid for by the Chapel. How many spots is that - in a much more prime location. How about we use that to value the 50 spots the Nemers have and then deduct for location and the falling property values in Summit County. Tell me there lot is worth a $1 million -- I call bullshit. Thank goodness the University is appealing this decision.
-
How about we really be honest here -- we are talking about a Democratic town that votes Democratic every chance they get. Democrats are the party of what can the government do for me and how can I put the responibility on someone else. As I was reading this article the first thing that occured to me is what someone else posted -- if the dump is worth that much then why wasn't he paying taxes on that much. I'm all for giving him the money he deserves, but I want to know when the property became that value and I want back taxes for the city. They are the people who brought this case on themselves they should get the good with the bad.

MAC Conference expanding to 14 teams...
Big Zip replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If Western Kentucky and Temple were both full members I think it would do a lot for basketball, but it would certainly make scheduling more difficult. What I'm afraid will happen is Temple will stay in football and Western Kentuck will join for basketball -- which I think is moving the conference in the wrong direction. Adding part-time members here and there is not the right answer. -
Wow, first Andrew Moss, now Rydell Brooks
Big Zip replied to zipfan 81's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
On vacation today and picked up a USA Today. You'll be happy to know it isn't a headline story, but it is listed in the colleges portion of the sports section. The headline story is Va Tech QB getting his scholarship pulled after getting arrested on felony drug distribution charges. I guess there are times when not being considered a big time school pays off. Rydell does get his time though under the headline of Akron arrest. The story states that "Brooks ran from a car after a traffic stop and fired several times as police chased".
