  1. Impressive just from resurrecting an 8 year old single post thread. Geezing for a moment, but our rec centers back in the day were when they opened up Memorial Hall and the Rubber Bowl to play intramural sports or sneak over to Can't to play racquetball. UA has come a long way (and needed it to compete against other schools in that list like OSU and Cincinnati). It does annoy me when they refer to UA in articles like this as a "smaller" MAC school. What the hell does that mean? I think they simply mean less well known since I believe UA has the fourth biggest student enrollment in the state. Still good to see UA mentioned in something like this though.
  2. Funny, short, satirical piece on Frank Solich.
  3. I don't know who Chris Driver is but he is apparently advocating (I'm sure tongue in cheek) for a MAC-Sun Belt football challenge.
  4. just wanted to bump this up in case anyone still wanted to go
  5. Had someone drop out at the last second. Its in the Akron section. PM me if interested.
  6. Hey DB, are you going to the game?
  7. Always found these find of entertaining where they list the famous alums of the participating schools. Of course Akron got Jason Taylor, who I'm fine with. Black Keys would have been a nice choice since they chose attended rather than graduated. But they didn't take all positive ones - Villanova got stuck with disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy and they chose Jim Jones of the People's Temple mass suicide in 1978 for Butler.
  8. In case anyone was curious about what VCU fans have to say about the game here is the link to their thread. I genuinely like this school and their fan base, I hate that we are playing them first.
  9. Are you sure? With that late start you wouldn't have to take a kid out school and if you drove back late they could sleep on the way back and still be up for school the next day. You might be a little groggy and have to take a few hours the next morning but its is possible to do it without missing much work. I know because we're doing that exact thing with my sister.
  10. I know the Zips have not officially released ticket info yet, but for those who already have tickets who is going? As the ticket information is released others can add in. I'm in for two, have nosebleed seats if I have to, while hoping the Zips ticket office comes through.
  11. Figured this is as good a place as any to place "dancing" related info. ESPN had a montage of every coach with a snippet of a conversation with Andy Katz. Keith's snippet was "He could coach my team or I could coach his team" or something close to that. Think I can guess what that was in reference to. Shaka's was "Every team that makes the NCAA tournament is good". Think I can guess what that was from too. Still hate that we are matched up with VCU but they've had a nice spotlight for the last few years, I will be OK if we have to turn it off for one tournament.
  12. Well done - even a brief appearance by GoZips didn't hurt it.
  13. I suspect (but do not know this for sure) that each team was allocated the same number of tickets but with it being so close in distance there was probably a lot higher internal (to UA) demand for tickets which only leaves a certain amount for the fans (I also suspect students are not included in this number which is why fewer are available for the rest of us). Everyone who attends needs one and that means band members, cheerleaders, mascots, etc. and I think everyone comes out of that initial allocation. I don't mean to cause widespread panic but I wanted to pass along what I heard from what I believe is a pretty reliable source.
  14. Intensi-Tree?
  15. I taked to some folks this morning about the tickets distribution and was told there are only around around 500 available for the Akron fans and of course highest priority will go to the biggest donors. Just to be safe I bought a few of Ticketmaster. There are not many left on there, only the end court seats up high but at least it gets you in the building. I figure if I do get Zips tickets I will just put these on StubHub at face value since it looks like it might sell out since Michigan is in our group. Just wanted to give Zips fans a heads up.
  16. That was indeed an awesome photo gallery, thanks for sharing. And I don't know if you just caught perfect timing on the player intros but Chauncey looked overjoyed to be there (loved that) and Zeke and Tree looked dead serious (loved that too). Nice to see for those of us that couldn't be there. Thanks.
  17. The Zips have a chance. After the last two days, I believe!!
  18. Dammit I like VCU, hate this matchup. But being in Detroit couldn't have worked out much better for Zips fans. Anybody catch if it was Thursday or Friday?
  19. Not Oklahoma St nor St Louis.
  20. I can't imagine being other than a 12 or 13 seed. It's a #12 against VCU in Auburn Hills.
  21. Nope, not possible, those slots are reserved for the last four at large teams. Zips won their conference so they will not play in one of those.
  22. Reggie still played 10 minutes with three rebounds, an assist and a block, so it's not like he didn't contribute. But I have to reiterate what a huge game that was for Melo being thrust into that situation. In another thread I mentioned that he had outscored Cooper 5-3, and someone said he had only one turnover to Coopers 5. He also had 3 assists to Cooper 6, out rebounded him 4-2 and two steals to Cooper's one. I don't think he could have come up much bigger and he ended up playing 27 minutes almost as many as Cooper's 33. What a huge, huge game from him. Hope that really boosts his confidence going into the NCAA's.
  23. Not sure what Tree's ceiling is but one of these days when he skies for a rebound he better be careful or he will smack his head on it.
  24. How much do you think you could have won on this prop bet? Carmelo Betancourt will outscore DJ Cooper.
