Congratulations Zips Men's Basketball Team!
MDZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Pretty amazing that of all of the great teams before this one, this ia the first to win a regular season MAC title. Congrats to a great effort in a year when the MAC has been better than in the recent past. I've never gotten to see a MAC tournament in person but I'm making plans to come and see this one. -
I wonder if he was right, I did find only one scenario where Can't would not be the four. I don't see an error, but its academic now. Winners: Buffalo, EMU Losers: BGSU, OU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: Can't 10-6 4: EMU 10-6 (Record among tied teams, Can't 2-1, EMU 1-1, OU 1-2) 5: OU 10-6 6: BGSU 9-7

Down to only four possibilities now, OU and Buffalo now locked into the 2-3 seed spots (Buffalo win gives them a 2, a loss gives them a 3) and Can't locked as the 4 no matter what. We may indeed get to see the Flashes again. I think this sets up pretty well. 1: Winners: Buffalo, EMU, OU Losers: BGSU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: OU 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (Can't beat EMU) 5: EMU 10-6 6: BGSU 9-7 4: Winners: Buffalo, OU Losers: BGSU, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: Buffalo 12-4 3: OU 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 5: EMU 9-7 (EMU beat BGSU) 6: BGSU 9-7 5: Winners: BGSU, EMU, OU Losers: Buffalo 1: Akron 13-3 2: OU 11-5 (OU swept Buffalo) 3: Buffalo 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (Record among tied teams Can't 2-1, EMU 1-1, BGSU 1-2) 5: EMU 10-6 6: BGSU 10-6 8: Winners: BGSU, OU Losers: Buffalo, EMU 1: Akron 13-3 2: OU 11-5 (OU swept Buffalo) 3: Buffalo 11-5 4: Can't 10-6 (1-1 against each other, 0-2 Akron, 1-1 OU, Buffalo, so drops agains to EMU, 1-0 vs 0-1) 5: BGSU 10-6 6: EMU 9-7

If it happens, great. But for now, I am hijacking this thread so that it refers to the celebration of the Zips mens basketball championship!
-
And that's the worst we can do. Root for EMU and Miami. If both win, OU falls the the fifth seed.
-
Gutty, gutty second half for the Zips. Congrats to the
-
Welcome back Chauncey Gilliam! And beautiful lob and dunk from AA to Zeke.
-
20-2 run. Wow! More points than in the whole first half.
-
You may want to turn it back on. Zips within one.
-
Well at least our points (18) are higher than our turnovers (14). Lowest first half point total of the season. Un-f***king believable. Way to turn it on at the end of the season. Looks like their first game of the game of the year. No wait, their first game was fantastic, maybe they are playing the season in reverse.
-
7:23 left in the first half. 1st LeBron reference.
-
Ten minutes. Ten points. Seven turnovers. Terrible.
-
Funny thing is the ESPN2 feed has been choppy. The announcers even mentioned it.
-
Disappointing but not devastating. Zips fate is still in their hands. Can't did us a favor by eliminating the Bongcats from beating us out of a top seed so even with a complete collapse and a Buffalo win over BGSU, the Zips still have a top two seed. I'm also worried but the sky is not falling yet. We've gone into the MAC tourney in a lot worse shape than this (even if we do drop to the two seed).
-
Great to see Brett drop in a three on senior night too.
-
I haven't had a single problem with it so far.
-
Other than a traveling call, nice start by Nik on senior night.
-
Holy crap, we have a womens team too? Then that headline would be completely correct. Apologies, News Collector.
-
The news collector is even more pessimistic than some on this site. It is only hoping for a home game in the first round (which is not possible since the Zips have already clinched a top three seed). I would hope even the News Collector would have hope that a win clinches the double bye and the number one seed. Which I fully believe will happen, the Bulls are not a good road team (losses at Miami, Ohio and Can't). UA looks to secure a home game in the first round of the MAC Tournament with a senior night win over Buffalo Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the JAR View the full article at www.GoZips.com

The Oscars and NBA All-Star game are on. Maybe there aren't that many people watching. Figured we were due for a down game but not this bad.
-
Yep. Dammit.

I'm here, just been busy. Akron's wrestling program was far from great when it was eliminated in 1981 but it certainly was improving, and with all of the local talent, I have no doubt it could have become competitive on a national scene as well. All sports at Universities now pretty much boil down to Title IX issues (and as much good as that has done for women's athletics, it surely has eliminated a lot of opportunities for men, which was not the intent but was the effect). The really unfortuante part is all the "Olympic sports" have been sacrificed in the name of football, because football rosters are so big they force a multitude of womens sports to compensate and then there is very little left over for the men. Too bad there isn't some sort of football exemption. I think if you look around the MAC, that is in force in the entire conference. I just saw the men won an indoor track title (over only four other schools), the women have all 12, same goes in soccer and in tennis and all mens sports except football, basketball and baseball. That's kind of a sad result.

If they win Sunday they can still cut down the nets at home (win or lose ).
