  1. I read that the Zips just tied the Indiana record for going unbeaten in conference (28 games, 26-0-2), hopefully we set that record when we play Hartwick, so I was looking through the MAC's Mens Soccer Record Book. I was expecting to see UA all over the place (and I do) but just how dominant is amazing. Caleb has done an incredible job but the team was no slouch before him. The Zips started MAC soccer in 1993. The have never finished below second place in all of that time and only once lost more than 1 league game (they lost two in 2000 and finished in a four way tie for first anyway). Their cumulative league total over that time is 87-10-6 for an over .900 winning percentage. On average the Zips lose OR tie just once a year in the MAC. There can't be too many more sports that dominate their leagues the way the Zips have dominated MAC soccer. Just a few more points of pride for the best team we have on campus. Worth a look.
  2. The Sun Belt is attempting to upgrade their RPI. The Sun Belt will announce Monday afternoon that it will demand all of its teams, beginning in the 2011-12 season, to play non-conference games against teams that have a three-year combined power rating that is within the top 150 or if that school finished with an RPI inside the top 150 in the previous season .... The Sun Belt tried this mechanism once before from 2003 to 2005 and the league's RPI went to No. 12 in 2005. The Sun Belt was RPI conference number 23 last year. Their champ, North Texas, got a number 15 seed. Something that maybe the MAC should consider?
  3. Not true, the kids on the end zone grass were having a ball and not paying one bit of attention to the game. They got their money's worth and more.
  4. On the bright side, Capt. K, JohnnyZip and Dr. Z all made outstanding chili, I consider myself the winner for having sampled each. Thanks guys! . Also got a nice nap on the "grassy knoll" (seems like an appropriate metaphor) end zone grass in the third and fourth quarter and got to see the Zips beat WMU in soccer. Still a good day despite watching one of the worst D-1 football teams (perhaps ever?). Are we talking historically bad yet?
  5. He's up 4 percentage points over #2. Keep it up!
  6. I can. Hopefully, this puts Z.I.P.'s worried mind at ease.
  7. New projections are up. This is all for fun right now, but look at who the Zips projected bracket opponents would be. That would be a tough road. In my opinion, by far the toughest of the four regions. #1 Akron Region: First Round – Sacred Heart (NEC Automatic) at Penn State (Big Ten #4)
Second round – Winner at #1 Seed Akron (Mid American Automatic) First Round - Colgate (Patriot Automatic) at Connecticut (Big East #5)
Second round – Winner at #16 Seed Brown (Ivy #3) First round – Virginia (ACC #4) at West Virginia (Big East #3)
Second round – Winner at 8 Seed Ohio State (Big Ten #3) First round – Cincinnati (Big East #8) at Tulsa (CUSA #3)
Second round – Winner at #9 Seed Creighton (MVC Automatic)
  8. That was really well done and shows the Zips and the program in a very positive light (nice that they were there in an absolute destruction of Michigan). Nice interview with two AK-Rowdies (using the Info as a backdrop) and a look at one of the Michigan red cards in another video. Well done or I might say Top Drawer. In an unrelated note, I will get to use my soccer season ticket when I come in this weekend for a little Zips sports fix. I will also stop by the tailgaters and attend the football game. Come on, we have to pull one out sometime.
  9. Info looks nice even when it's only 1/4 full.
  10. How many games would a decent team lose against a killer schedule like this? http://www.butlersports.com/sports/m-socce...msoccerschedule You caught me in the middle of trying to get the link to work too - since it had the word rank s ummary in it you can see what happened.
  11. The seven goals will likely (at least 3 against WMU will help too) put the Zips back atop the National leaderboards in Goals per game (now up to 3.0). The Zips already lead in goals against. The only significant team category the Zips do not lead in is won-loss-tied percentage. C'mon Butler, lose a stinkin' game or at least tie one.
  12. 7-1 final, Hat Trick for Sarkodie. I remember the Zips getting seven against FAU a few years ago, but Michigan? Wow.
  13. 5-1 (Ampaipatakwong, Thomas Schmitt with the assist) and the subs are now rolling in.
  14. Yep, Mattocks gets yet another one, his 11th. Another thing I noted on Rasor's blog - out of the 11 starters only two are seniors (Korb and Ampaipatakwong). Now I fully expect Sarkodie to be gone after this year as well, but this team is still well stocked.
  15. Zips up 3-1 at the half. Two goals from Sarkodie and one by Nagbe.
  16. If this is all true, it's fairly ironic that the Rudy award winner would be run off of a team by a former Notre Dame coach.
  17. Actually, I considered this as well but thought statisically the best thing to do would be to vote for Ampai and no one else. But perhaps diluting the number of votes makes it harder for other to gain on him. Or perhaps it makes 0 difference either way. Math/stats majors?
  18. And the last winless team in the MAC is (drumroll), the Akron Zips (I am counting today as a loss even if it is not officially over). EMU took out Ball State in overtime today.
  19. Zips in an upset - will lose by less then 17.
  20. Back then Temple was a member of the Big East so we did have one "BCS" team. The rest of that schedule is pretty light though this years team might have had the same record expect they'd beat Youngstown State (yeah, that was for you eguins. )
  21. They were also seeded #4 last year and didn't get out of the second round. I'm guessing this won't be the final bracket layout. Still nice to see us as #1 for the second year, but I really would rather not have Indiana and Virginia in the bracket with us.
  22. ... he hits it! Zips Win! First win in State College in 22 years!
  23. PK! Nanchoff lining up and...
  24. In the 2nd OT ...
  25. We are actually pretty lucky we are not down 3-1.
