March 9, 2023 Bates wasn't able to get Eastern Michigan into the MAC tournament, as his team went 5-13 in conference play and 8-23 overall, meaning his season ended March 3. Bates had some moments, dropping a combined 66 points against South Carolina and Michigan, but was more or less a net negative in conference play He posted a paltry 49% true shooting percentage with far more turnovers than assists and while being a sieve defensively, often looking like he was barely trying while playing selfish basketball. This probably wasn't what NBA scouts or Bates envisioned when he elected to transfer from Memphis last spring, and he has work ahead of him now to be a sure-fire draft pick if he enters. I can't get a link to it but on good morning football on the NFL Network they were discussing universities that are also colors. One guy brought up Navy and said that he had been going through all the other conferences to see what else he could find and said is Akron a color? 🤣

Was mildly disappointed we picked up neither Georgetown nor Villanova on the road this year since both are reasonable commutes - until I saw the Big East tournament will be 40 minutes from me. 😊I'll be there.

IIRC, you told that story at a dinner before an Akron West Virginia basketball game about a decade ago and I believe it was Dr. Z who responded that he wished you would have replied "we only have ONE at Akron" while showing him the appropriate finger. 🤣😂

This terrified me when I first read it. But he gave heart and soul to the program so if he does get a chance to move on I support him 100% and wish him nothing but the best.

I didn't read it as Maravich's son contacting the tournament. He might have, but it didn't specifically say that, it said others had. If Detroit Mercy had been invited it would have been inviting a player not a team and the spectacle that goes around it. I'm glad they had the guts not to do it even though it probably would have brought them a little more money and press coverage. Davis had 5 years to break that record that Maravich set in three. Imagine what the record would have been had freshman been eligible to play back then.

Funny I swear I was going to start a very similar topic but using only players from the Dambrot/Groce era. Jakubick was fantastic I did get to see him play but this is dead on the list I would have selected too. Well done.

St Francis University drops all intercollegiate sports. Eventually it might only be the money making schools that continue. Sports as we know are mostly big money losers. Looks like at least one college decided the costs outweigh the benefits.

Sears playing pretty well for Alabama in the tournament. Never liked Oats and this year I assume the crimson in Crimson Tide stands for murder. Want them out as early as possible.
